Compact ultra-thin notebooks are very popular nowadays, and XIDU has introduced an updated generation called XIDU PhilBook Max in our review.
The main problem of ultra-thin laptops is the price, but the manufacturer XIDU offers low cost and good technical specs.
For $350, you get a 14.1-inch Full HD touchscreen, an Intel Celeron J3355 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of SSD memory. Also, the new laptop has a turning screen of 360 degrees, so you can use the device at any angle to watch movies or work with documents.
I propose to start our detailed and full review and find out whether it is worth buying a Chinese laptop or it is worth paying in addition and buying a device from a better-known company, for example, Asus or even Xiaomi.

XIDU PhilBook Max: Unboxing
A laptop came to me in a simple white box, which was packed in a bubble protective film. It will allow you to safely deliver a laptop from China intact.
On the front side of the box is applied only the name of the company – XIDU. Also, behind a protective film, I found a business card with brief characteristics.
Inside the box, I discovered the following components – a laptop, which is also in a protective transport film, a power adapter for 12V and 3A and instruction in English.
To my surprise, equipment – well, very well packed. I did not find any defects or scratches during transportation. I also want to note that through Aliexpress you can order additional stickers on the keyboard if your native language is not English.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Design and Appearance
The main feature of XIDU PhilBook Max in our test is its versatility, that is, it is two in one. You can use the device in two modes, as a full-fledged laptop or as a tablet, turning the screen 360 degrees.
The laptop PhilBook Max is made entirely of metal and looks very premium, even for its class of devices.
The dimensions of the notebook are very attractive, since the minimum thickness is only 16 mm, and the weight is 1387 grams. Judge for yourself, the small weight of the laptop will not cause you problems during transportation and travel.
The dark gray color of the metal looks amazing, and on the front side of the laptop, you can see the XIDU logo. It is good or bad to judge you, but I would like the back side of the screen to be empty, then it will be difficult to determine the name of the model in a public place.
Since you can use the laptop in tablet mode, the screen is a touch screen and the screen is protected from scratches and other troubles with a protective glass. The screen size is 14.1 inches with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and an IPS matrix.
The frames around the screen on the right and left sides are rather small, as for a notebook in its class. Above and below – the frame is much larger. Also on the top frame, I see a camera sensor with a resolution of 2 megapixels for video calls.
The screen has very good quality, viewing angles and brightness are almost perfect, either for work at home or on the street. Watching movies or playing games will not be a problem even for a long time.
The inside of the laptop around the keyboard is already made of plastic. The main drawback is that the company even wrote the name of the company XIDU even at the bottom so that you do not forget which brand you bought. I usually see processors stickers, but here is the company logo.
Around the keyboard on the contour, I see rubber elements so that the screen does not scratch the keyboard in the closed state.
If you press hard on the keyboard, you can see that the device is bent since it is not metal, but plastic. Another disadvantage can be attributed to the fact that the hinges hold the screen unclear and if you touch the screen, it will shake like jelly. These are common drawbacks of budget notebooks and for XIDU PhilBook Max is no exception.
An interesting solution is that the power button is located on the right side, next to the microSD memory card slot, USB 3.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones.
On the left side, I see a DC port for power, another USB 3.0 port, and a mini HDMI port.
At the bottom of the laptop are four rubber feet, also here I found two speakers on each side and a slot for an SSD memory card slot M.2.
The keyboard is full-sized and when typing the keys respond well to pressing. With fast typing, I had no problems, words and sentences were typed without errors. Also at night, you can use LED backlighting.
The touchpad works well and has all the functionality of gestures for the Windows operating system.
Therefore, instead of a mouse, you can use the touch screen or touchpad. I had no problems during use, but at first, I had to get used to both the keyboard and the touchpad.
Well, we figured out the design, it is possible that the laptop will be without flaws. But considering them – they are insignificant, but the advantages far exceed their excuses.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Hardware and Performance
The laptop is equipped with a processor called the Intel Celeron J3355 – a dual-core processor with a maximum clock frequency of 2.5 GHz. The performance is not the highest, but far superior to devices with Atom processors.
This chip is built on 14 nm technology, there is no active cooling, so you should not expect high performance. The laptop offers fast operation in the operating system, everything worked smoothly and stable during testing.
XIDU PhilBook Max in our test – will be an ideal assistant for working with office programs, multimedia and other simple functions. It is impossible to play hard games, especially in the most recent ones.
The processor works in conjunction with the Intel HD Graphics 500 graphics chip, so if you want to play games from the Window Store, then this will not be a problem for you. For example Asphalt Extreme or other similar games.
6 GB of RAM is responsible for multitasking and this volume is quite enough for a PhilBook Max laptop. The laptop has built-in 128 GB SSD memory. Below you can see the results and if compared with eMMC memory, the speed is significantly higher.
We also carried out other benchmark tests and you can see the results below.
It is worth noting that if you want to watch videos in a 4K resolution stream, then for XIDU PhilBook Max this will not be a problem. Youtube is stable and without any complaints.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Software
The XIDU PhilBook Max laptop runs on a full-fledged Window 10 operating system. At the first launch, the boot time was 44 seconds – this is not the fastest indicator, but for its class, it is a good result.
Initially, the operating system is in English, but in the settings menu, you can choose any other language.
As I wrote in performance, the operating system is very stable and well balanced. The problems in the work during our test, I have not identified.
Also in the Window Store, you can install any application or game. Scrolling in browser surfing responds quickly. Overall, I am satisfied with the operating system in the PhilBook Max laptop.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Connections
The laptop uses wireless connections, such as 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi, also Bluetooth 4.2 for connecting a wireless headset or mouse.
The speed of Wi-Fi you can see from the tests below.
From myself, I want to note that the signal is stable and it was not a problem to watch videos on Youtube even through two walls.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Overheating and Battery
If you watch the video or surf in the browser, then the AIDA64 application shows 64 degrees. If you play games with 3D graphics, the temperature rises to 75 degrees.
I also want to note that after the processor is working with a small load, the temperature drops very quickly.
The battery capacity is 4750 mAh. Considering the screen size and processor performance with a minimum power consumption of 10W.
The XIDU PhilBook Max can work for about 6-7 hours. Naturally, the time will depend on the brightness of the screen and how often you will use the touch panel.
The charging time will be less than 2 hours, since the power supply with 12V and 3A is a serious value for fast charging, even in the notebook segment.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Conclusions and Reviews
Undoubtedly, the XIDU PhilBook Max laptop is a good companion for those people who often travel or will use the device for work on business trips.
The build quality and materials at a good and decent level with metal elements. Externally, the laptop looks premium, but I would like to remove the company logo.
The versatility of the device using two modes allows the customer to choose both a laptop and a tablet. The 360-degree swivel touch screen allows you to work or watch movies in all conditions.
Performance meets your expectations and this laptop will be ideal for multimedia viewing of movies or office programs with small requirements. You can also play games with low graphic characteristics.
The battery life is high and will allow you to use your laptop throughout the day from a single charge.
XIDU PhilBook Max: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy a XIDU PhilBook Max laptop at a low price for only $346.49.
It will be difficult to find a worthy competitor for the XIDU laptop in this price range with similar technical specifications.
