Xiaomi last year introduced a mid-range laptop called the Redmibook 14, which I already talked about and reviewed. Today we will talk about the same series of laptops, but only the name Redmibook 13.
In this test, I will talk about the main features, appearance, build quality and much more, but also I will analyze the main disadvantages and what I did not like.
Now in the Chinese market, you can purchase a new Redmibook 13 laptop model for only $789.99 for the version with the Intel Core i5-10210U processor and for $909.99 for the version of the Intel Core i7-10510U processor.
The main improvement of the new generation of the middle-class laptop is the presence of the tenth generation of processors from Intel. There are also more compact sizes due to the smaller screen by 13.3 inches and with minimal frames. The low weight will give you the opportunity to easily transfer it to any place convenient for you and also many other features that I will discuss in a detailed review below.
Before starting the performance and tests, I will first share with you the unpacking and appearance.

Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Unboxing
A small cardboard box, like a laptop, came to me for a review. This is a typical design of the appearance of the box, as for most devices from Xiaomi. On the front side you can see the name of the series and model, and on the side face – the main technical specifications.
Inside the box, the first thing that meets me is a separate box in which there are a charging cable and a 40W power adapter.
The plug is standard on the cable, but I would like to see a Type-C connector, given its expensive price.
Just below the box is the laptop itself in a protective transport foam. To me for a test, the device reached without any problems.
Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Design
If we compare the sizes of Xiaomi Redmibook 13 and Redmibook 14, then the new generation is insignificant but smaller. The dimensions of the laptop were 307.3 x 195.0 x 17.8 mm, while the weight of the device does not exceed 1.23 kg. Therefore, carrying or taking a laptop with you to work or school will not be a big problem.
The case of Redmibook 13 is made entirely of aluminum alloy, which is pleasant to the touch. The color of the device is very unique and looks like a light gray metallic with a matte rough finish.
The first thing I usually test in a new laptop model is whether I can open the screen cover with just one hand. To my surprise – I could, this is a good Redmibook result!
On the back of the cover, I see the logo inscription – “Redmi designed by Xiaomi”. It does not look very intrusive and at my discretion looks good.
As I mentioned, the screen received a size of 13.3 inches with Full HD resolution. The manufacturer focused on the appearance and it succeeded because the frames around the screen are very minimal.
For example, the side faces, on the right and left, as well as the upper one, got a frame size of about 4.65 mm, but the bottom frame is slightly larger than 9.96 mm.
In addition, the Redmi logo is located on the lower edge.
As for the quality of the screen, I have some complaints, for example, the brightness of the screen was only 215 nits, which is not so much for a modern device. But the manufacturer uses a matte screen, which will not allow glare from the sun.
I would also like to note that the readings of 64% sRGB and 48% ARGB are not the highest for their class. For example, Chinese laptops in the price range from $ 300 to $ 450 have sRGB values of up to 96%.
The company didn’t make the best solution for its regular customers and this time decided not to equip Redmibook 13 with a web camera. I think this was not the best move on the part of Xiaomi.
The standard keyboard has black keys, the distance between the keys was about 1.3 mm. Therefore, for me, this distance is enough to quickly print and not make mistakes when typing. The keys are pressed with a good impact and during the test, I did not find any problems with the keyboard.
The touchpad panel has good size and using it will not make any work. But if you compare laptops from Apple, then Xiaomi should work on the touchpad.
The lower part of the laptop received five anti-slip rubber feet, two 2W speakers and ventilation holes for active cooling. Two speakers sound quite voluminous and have a good supply of volume level. But do not forget that the speakers are used by the Harman brand, and the sound is always at their best.
On the side faces there are such interfaces as USB 3.1, HDMI ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack – on the left side, and on the right – DC and USB 3.1 ports.
As you can see, the manufacturer strongly decided to reduce production costs and did not even install a modern Type-C connector, but it may not be necessary for some users.
Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Performance and Software
I hope the Xiaomi manufacturer will not save on performance in the new generation of the Redmibook 13 laptop? I was glad to see the new 10 generations of processors from Intel. This time, two versions are used – Intel Core i5-10210U and Core i7-10510U. The maximum processor clock speed was 4.2 GHz and in the top version 4.9GHz.
The graphics processor on both models is identical – this is NVIDIA GeForce MX250 at 25 watts. In terms of gaming abilities, the laptop will cope with heavy games without any problems, but, of course, not at the maximum graphics settings, since this is not a gaming laptop at all.
The Redmibook 13 uses new 74-blade cooling fans. Their number is much larger than the 50 blades of standard laptop models. But during the test, the temperature reached 96-98 degrees and during the games, the laptop had throttling.
Both versions use 8GB of RAM with the DDR4 version and 512 GB of internal SSD memory. If you look at the specs of the internal memory, then you will see that the SSD memory uses an old version based on SATA3. Indeed, after checking the speed test, the results were not the best.
Below I will leave an album with the results of a laptop test with a version of the Intel Core i7-10510U processor and you can compare it with other device models for yourself.
Personally, I’ll say that performance with the head is enough for every day or even heavy tasks.
From the box, I got Xiaomi Redmibook 13 with the Chinese version of Windows 10, where the default language was Chinese. Since I don’t know Chinese, I had to reinstall the English version of Windows 10. For me, this is a minor problem, but it took some time.
The user interface is standard and I did not find any problems with freezing or any other delay. The programs and games opened quickly, and the startup time of the operating system was about 10 seconds.
Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Battery
Inside the case of the Redmibook 13 laptop, there is a 5200 mAh or 40 Wh capacitive battery. As the manufacturer indicates, this capacity is enough for up to 11 hours of continuous operation of the laptop.
As practice has shown, the device in simple conditions worked for about 8-9 hours at a screen brightness of 60-70%, and under heavy loads about 4-5 hours at a similar brightness.
The charging time was about 1.5 hours through a power adapter with a power of 40 watts.
Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Conclusion and Reviews
It is difficult to say whether the laptop is worth its attention since the new Xiaomi Redmibook 13 model received a number of both positive and negative aspects.
For example, I did not like the fact that Xiaomi marketers produced a very economical version of the laptop, which does not have a web camera for calls and conferences, Type-C and a slot for a memory card. The screen quality is not the best, and the brightness and performance of sRGB are not high. The cooler does not cope with the 10th generation Intel processor, which results in high operating temperatures at high loads.
The positive aspects are a modern look with a minimalistic design, where the frames around the screen are very minimal. The build quality and materials are at a high level, and the keys and touchpad also have good responsiveness when typing or playing games. Another worth noting is the good sound of the speakers from Harman.
Xiaomi Redmibook 13: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can order and buy a Xiaomi Redmibook 13 laptop for $789.99 with an Intel Core i5-10210U processor and for $909.99 with an Intel Core i7-10510U processor.
Given its price, I would recommend buying a new generation of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2020 laptop, although the price will be slightly higher for $1089, the technical part is much better.
