Most recently, I did a review of Redmi Note 8T, which differs from Redmi Note 8 only in the presence of an NFC contactless payment sensor. And today I want to test Redmi Note 8 in detail and find out its main advantages and disadvantages.
I’m reviewing a global version of a Redmi device with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Below, in this article, you can find benchmark results, see the real sample of photos and much more.
Now you can buy a Redmi Note 8 smartphone at a nice price for only $169.99 with a good discount.
I would like to mention that Redmi Note 8 received a powerful Snapdragon 665 processor, a large 6.3-inch screen with a waterdrop notch for the front camera, four sensors of the main camera and a 4000 mAh battery.
As for the money, the technical filling of the smartphone is at a high level, but I propose to draw final conclusions after fully testing the device.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Unboxing
I got a standard white box, where the smartphone itself and the model name are printed on the front.
The backside is empty, and on the side face, there is a sticker with the memory version and configuration information.
Inside the box, I found a separate box in which is: a black transparent silicone case, instructions and a needle for the SIM tray.
Below, under the box, is a smartphone in a protective transport film on the front. I got a black smartphone for review.
Even lower, I found a Type-C cable in white and a 10W power adapter.
Of course, fast charging is supported, but you will need to purchase a separate 18W power adapter if you do not already have it.
I would like to note that the protective case received a separate hinged rivet for the Type-C port.
This is very good, excess garbage will not get into the device.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Design
As for its mid-range smartphone, Redmi Note 8 got a pretty typical look.
The front and rear panels of the device are made of protective glass Gorilla Glass 5, and the side face is made of plastic.
In size, the smartphone received 158.3 x 75.3 x 8.4 mm and a weight of about 190 grams.
Of course, you can hardly use the device with one hand, but the smartphone in your hand is very convenient.
I have no complaints about the quality of materials and assembly, Redmi Note 8 is excellent. I did not notice annoying creaks, the buttons work distinctly and accurately.
A typical 6.3-inch IPS screen is installed on the front. At the top, you can see the notification indicator, a waterdrop notch for a selfie camera, a speaker and proximity and light sensors.
The frames around the screen are small, except for the bottom, here you can also see the Redmi logo.
On the back panel, in the upper left corner, there is the main camera with four sensors and a dual-LED flash. In the center is a fingerprint scanner that works quickly and accurately.
The right side has a volume rocker and a power button, and the left side has a slot for dual SIM cards and a memory card.
The card slot is not hybrid and you can use dual SIM cards and memory at the same time.
The lower part of the device received the main speaker, Type-C port, microphone and 3.5 mm audio jack. The latter will be useful for most users.
The upper edge has a noise-canceling microphone and an infrared sensor.
Of the minuses, I would like to note that the main camera has a large ledge and the phone will swing strongly on a flat surface.
But if you use the protective silicone case that comes with the kit, then the problem is easily solved.
The good quality materials and a glass case give the device a good reputation, given its low price.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Screen
As I mentioned, Redmi Note 8 received a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS screen or 1080 x 2340 pixels. The pixel density per inch is approximately 409 PPI, and the aspect ratio of the screen is 19.5: 9.
The screen occupies 81.7% of the area on the front panel, as you can see, the frames on the sides are not significant, but at the bottom, there is a large ledge with the brand logo.
The quality of the screen is standard and does not stand out, IPS screens from Redmi have good color reproduction, viewing angles and brightness.
Yes, you can safely use your smartphone even in sunny weather and the screen will be readable.
In the screen settings menu, you can set the eye protection mode, reading mode and adjust the contrast and color reproduction. Also, an interesting feature is the presence of a dark mode.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Performance and Software
As for its price, Redmi Note 8 is equipped with a pretty good processor, namely Snapdragon 665.
It is manufactured using 11-nanometer technology and shows good results in synthetic tests. Below I will leave an album with benchmark results.
The processor consists of eight cores with a maximum clock speed of 2 GHz. It also works in conjunction with the Adreno 610 graphics chipset. After testing in games, I found that even with heavy games, such as Call Of Duty Mobile, the device copes easily. I did not find overheating even after 1 hour of playing games.
In my test, the device received 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Also, you can use an additional memory card up to 512GB.
The operating system received control from Android 9.0, which has a new MIUI 10 user interface.
The updated interface has received some improvements, for example, the dark mode, the icons in the main settings have become more contrasting and much more.
Interface management is very simple and intuitive, even if you first encountered MIUI 10, you will not find any problems.
The global version of the firmware received a large list of languages, so there will be no difficulties with the translation.
During testing, I did not find any delays or other problems with the software in Redmi Note 8.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Sound and Communication
The main speaker of the smartphone is installed at the bottom of the device. The speaker itself plays cleanly and most importantly is very loud.
There is also bass, but not as strong as on the flagship devices. The detail and volume of sound at a decent level, watching movies or playing games will be comfortable.
It is also worth noting that the smartphone received a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you can listen to your favorite music through native headphones.
Wirelessly, Redmi Note 8 received a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth module with version 4.2. The speed is not the highest, but typical for its class.
Location time is very fast and accurate thanks to the integrated A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS sensors.
During testing, I did not find any problems with LTE communication, since the device supports B1 / 2/3/4/5/7/8/20. During conversations, there were no interruptions and the interlocutor heard me distinctly, as I did him.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Camera
The main feature of Redmi Note 8 is the presence of the main camera with four sensors. The main sensor at 48 megapixels with f/1.75 aperture.
The second 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide shots. But the third and fourth sensors received 2-megapixel resolutions with f/2.4 aperture for bokeh and macro shots.
The front camera is located on the front panel under the teardrop-shaped cutout and has a 13-megapixel module with an f/2.0 aperture.
The camera application looks standard, as for the MIUI 10 user interface. I found shooting modes such as slow-motion, short video, video, photo, 48 MP, portrait, night, panorama, and so on.
The maximum resolution of the 48MP sensor in photography mode is 8000 x 6000 pixels. The video can be shot with a maximum resolution of 4K and 30 frames per second.
The quality of the pictures is at a good level when it comes to daytime photos. It is better to take night photos in night mode, as the normal mode shows a worse result, low detail and photos are highlighted.
The bokeh mode works fine, the background is blurred correctly and without any damage.
The ultra-wide mode has a strong distortion in the corners, so the photo does not look realistic.
Macro photography works well and you can see some examples below in the album.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Battery
The manufacturer installed a fairly typical battery on Redmi Note 8, as for its devices, with a capacity of 4000 mAh. It shows a good battery life.
Tests showed a battery life of about 8.5 hours at maximum brightness for watching videos on YouTube. The result is good and when compared with everyday life, the device can work for about 2 days with an average load.
The charging time via Type-C port and 18W adapter will be approximately 2 hours.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Conclusions and Reviews
The global version of Redmi Note 8 showed itself on the positive side, it received good technical specifications and a classic appearance.
The build quality is high, and use materials are premium. The glass protective case using Gorilla Glass 5 looks beautiful and elegant.
The performance is high, both in games and benchmark tests, when compared with competitors in this price range.
The new MIUI 10 user interface works stably and quickly, I did not find any problems.
The camera takes high-quality pictures, even at night, only if you use the night mode. The photos have good and vibrant colors with high detail, especially the 48-megapixel mode.
The battery life is a good indicator due to the good optimization of the software and the correct operation of the processor.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy the new Redmi Note 8 at a good price for just $169.99. I would also like to recall that smartphone prices on November 29 on Black Friday will be much lower.
Of course, the Redmi Note 8 smartphone turned out to be excellent, given its technical characteristics and price.
