Last week I was able to test the older version in the new line of Redmi Note smartphones. Today I would like to share with you my emotions about the younger version, which was named Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 in a detailed and full review.
In this article, I will compare two smartphones and after reading this test, you can easily find out which smartphone model is right for you. In addition, I will tell you about the main advantages and disadvantages.
The price tag for the basic version of the Redmi Note 10 smartphone without the Pro model will cost you just $180. Let me remind you that Redmi Note 10 Pro costs $250. The price difference is quite significant, but let’s take a look at the main features of a mid-budget smartphone.
Today’s hero has become a little more compact, as it received a smaller screen size of 6.43 inches with AMOLED technology. It also uses a different Snapdragon 678 processor, the main camera module has a resolution of 48 megapixels. But the battery capacity of both models is almost the same – it is 5000 mAh with support for fast charging at 33W of power.
The first technical features tell us that the Redmi Note 10 generation will be completely different from its older version with the Pro model. Therefore, I propose to start an in-depth and detailed review as soon as possible in order to find out what the device is capable of from a practical point of view.

Unboxing and packaging
Like any smartphone in the Redmi lineup, the new model comes in plain white packaging. On the front, you can find a drawing of the device with the model name and the Mi logo. But the brief technical specs are located at the end of the box.
Inside the package, I found the smartphone itself in a protective transport film with the main features. In addition, the box contained a separate envelope with a protective transparent silicone case, a set of documentation and a needle for the SIM tray.
The package also includes a 33W power adapter and a Type-C charging cable. You can say that the equipment of both smartphones, both Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro, are identical. But I want to note some differences, the first is that these smartphone models have completely different silicone cases.
The rest of the equipment was completely identical and now let’s look at the main differences in appearance and materials used.
Design, build quality and materials
The most important difference between the two models Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro is the materials used. On the non-Pro version, the case is made entirely of plastic. The back of the smartphone received a glossy and rather easily soiled plastic. Compared to the glass on the Pro version, the difference is felt strongly.
Also, different materials indicate different weights. Since the Redmi Note 10 model received a weight of 179 grams, but the weight of the Redmi Note 10 Pro was 193 grams. The difference is quite significant, the same I can say about the dimensions. The dimensions of the basic version are 160.5 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm, and the Pro modifications are 164 x 76.5 x 8.1 mm.
Here we can conclude that the dimensions of the Note 10 are smaller, but the thickness is slightly higher than the Pro version of the smartphone. Thus, it was comfortable to hold the device in hand and, thanks to the small screen size of 6.43 inches, using the younger version was much more comfortable than with the Note 10 Pro smartphone model.
But the build quality suits me completely. During my testing, I did not notice any strong jambs, since every element was made with high quality. For example, all the buttons had good responsiveness, and I did not find extraneous squeaks and sounds. I can also note the presence of protection against splashes and dust under the IP53 standard. This is certainly not complete protection from water, but it is also nice to meet some level of protection from the surrounding habitat.
The manufacturer offers a choice of three different colors – gray, white and green. I have a gray color on my test, as you might have noticed, and it shimmers quite nicely at different angles of light.
The back of the Redmi Note 10 smartphone has received a massive main camera module. The large camera sensor can easily be seen here, as well as three more camera modules for various modes of use with LED flash. You will also find the Redmi brand logo on the back, but there is no fingerprint scanner. Since it is located on the side of the device.
The right side has a volume rocker with a power button and a built-in fingerprint scanner. The scanner itself works quickly and accurately, so I had no problems using it. On the opposite side of the Redmi Note 10 device, a SIM tray was installed for two nano SIM cards and a microSD memory card.
At the bottom you can see the main speaker, Type-C charging connection, microphone hole and even a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Meanwhile, at the top, there is another additional speaker with a microphone and an infrared sensor. In terms of sound quality, I liked the maximum volume setting. There was also a little bass, but I cannot call the sound quality ideal or flagship.
Screen and image quality
As I said, a smaller screen is located on the front of the case – 6.43 inches. It received a similar resolution and aspect ratio – it is 1080 x 2400 pixels and 20: 9, respectively. But since the screen size has become smaller compared to the Note 10 Pro, the pixel density per inch of the Note 10 will have a higher value – 409 PPI.
Both models in the Note line from Redmi use AMOLED screen technology. But there are differences between these screens and let me tell you about them. While the Pro model gets a 120Hz refresh rate, the base Note 10 has a simple 60Hz refresh rate.
Also, the peak value of the brightness level of the Redmi Note 10 model was 1100 nits, while the Pro version received 1200 nits the maximum value of the brightness level. I believe that the maximum brightness is almost identical in practice and it will be difficult to see a big difference.
You can also notice that the round notch for the front camera in the Note 10 model is slightly larger when compared to the Note 10 Pro version. Other features and display settings remain the same. But these minor differences speak strongly about the budget of the Redmi Note 10. Be that as it may, the screen quality of the smartphone model with the Pro ending will be a cut above. But do not forget that the cost differs by $70.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
Again, if you compare the Redmi Note 10 and Pro models in terms of performance, the difference will be significant. Since the younger version has a new budget processor Snapdragon 678. In fact, this is a slightly improved Snapdragon 675 chipset and even some programs define it under this name.
I can’t say anything bad about this processor, because it showed itself on the positive side in my review. For example, it is based on eight cores, where six are energy efficient with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz and two powerful cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz. If you look at the benchmark tests, the device scored almost 235 thousand points in AnTuTu. As for a budget device, this is a very solid indicator.
I have a version of the device with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The manufacturer also offers 4 and 128 GB, and there are also 6 and 128 GB versions of memory. In addition, the smartphone has a separate slot for a microSD memory card format. At the same time, the memory read speed was 480 MBps reading and 220 MBps writing.
I also liked the work of the Adreno 612 GPU. In gaming tests, I enjoyed playing demanding games such as PUBG Mobile and Call Of Duty. During my tests, I did not notice any severe freezes and it was comfortable to play at medium graphics settings. In addition, I did not notice any strong overheating even after playing for a long time.
Wireless connectivity is also standard here, as for a mid-budget smartphone. For example, the device received a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection, a dual-band Wi-Fi ac module, and there is also a fairly fast GPS module. But the main drawback for me and many users is the lack of an NFC module for contactless payments.
The new smartphone model Redmi Note 10 is controlled by the Android 11 operating system and has a MIUI 12 user interface. I know that the manufacturer should release an updated version of the MIUI 12.5 user interface in the near future. But it was not yet available at the time of my testing. The very work of the OS completely suited me, I did not find any strong problems with performance and all functions worked without any remarks.
Camera and sample photos
In a similar manner to performance, the camera on Redmi Note 10 is also different from the version with the Pro model. The main camera module received a resolution of 48 megapixels with an aperture of f/1.8. Examples of photos you can see below in the album. Yes, there is not enough detail in the sample photos when comparing the sample shots of the Redmi Note 10 Pro. But I cannot say that the photos were of poor quality.
The second sensor received 8-megapixel resolution, and it was created for ultra-wide images with a capture angle of 118 degrees. The third and fourth modules have 2-megapixel resolution and are required for macro and portrait modes, respectively.
As for the front camera, it received a resolution of 13 megapixels and has an f/2.5 aperture. I had no problems with the quality of the pictures and you can easily post photos to social networks, such as Instagram.
In the settings of the camera application, I found a large number of useful modes. At the same time, I noticed that the maximum video resolution on the main camera module was from 4K and 30 frames per second. But on a selfie camera, the smartphone recorded at 1080p and also 30 frames per second.
Battery and run time
Comparing both Redmi Note 10 and Pro models, I noticed that the battery capacity on both versions is almost identical. For example, our today’s hero received a 5000 mAh battery capacity, and the Pro version had a 5020 mAh battery. That is, the difference is practically insignificant.
But here it is worth noting that the screen size of the Note 10 version is smaller than that of the Pro, so the energy consumption will be less. Thus, in practice, the younger version of the smartphone showed its best side. The battery life of a full charge was 2 days with active use.
The charging time also impressed me, as in 30 minutes of charging the device was charged a little over 50%. A full charge took me 1 hour and 10 minutes, all thanks to the 33W power adapter.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
If you wanted a budget smartphone for yourself at a very sweet price with an AMOLED screen and good performance, then the new generation of Redmi Note 10 would be a good choice.
Let me tell you about my impressions of the advantages, and then you will find out the main disadvantages. The first thing I liked was its compact size and weight. Nowadays, it is difficult to find a small and convenient smartphone that will fit well in the palm of your hand.
As I said, I loved the updated screen using the new AMOLED technology. Previously, the manufacturer used an IPS matrix. But now the availability of an inexpensive device made any user think about switching from IPS to AMOLED matrix.
Also benchmark tests, gaming ability showed themselves positively in terms of performance. The new Snapdragon 678 processor performs well and performs well in benchmarks.
The main camera module may not be as modern, but the sample photos prove that the device still takes good photos, even in low light. I also liked the battery life and the presence of a fast power adapter with good power.
The main disadvantage I can attribute is the glossy plastic case, which is quite easily soiled. Also, I do not see the point in macro mode, and most importantly, I was upset by the lack of an NFC module.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
You can currently get the Redmi Note 10 smartphone at a very affordable price for just $ 179.99.
Therefore, it is a great option for a mid-budget smartphone that will not only have good performance, but also other impressive features.
