The company Xiaomi focuses not only on the top and middle-class smartphones but also on a budget segment. Today I would like to share my impression of an affordable smartphone called Xiaomi Redmi Go up to $100.
In our review, we will talk about the advantages and disadvantages, also the main competitors.
The price of Redmi Go is about $60. But this does not mean that the manufacturer Xiaomi will use MediaTek processors. I was surprised that the Snapdragon 425 processor was installed on the Redmi Go.
Also, the smartphone was equipped with 1 GB of RAM, 8 or 16 GB of internal memory with the ability to expand the memory card to 128GB and 3000 mAh battery capacity.
Today we will test the new Redmi Go, which is also the cheapest smartphone of the company. This is hardware, the balanced smartphone that can satisfy a large number of users at a very attractive price.

Xiaomi Redmi Go: Unboxing
The box is very elegant and compact in white with the name of the Redmi Go model on the front.
On the back of the box, you will find all the basic information about this smartphone. On the side is a Global version sticker.
Inside the box, you will find a smartphone in protective cellophane, under it there are documents (instruction manual, warranty sheet), as well as a needle for nanoSIM and micro SD cards.
At the bottom of the box is a charger (5V/1A) and micro USB cable, both white.
For your budget, this is standard equipment.
Even a protective silicone case was not provided. Now I would like to look at a closer look at Redmi Go.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Design and Appearance
When we look at it from behind, there is one main camera in the upper left corner and a LED with a flash next to it. In the middle, you will not find a fingerprint scanner, and below you will see the company logo.
The corners of the smartphone are rounded on all sides, so it is very comfortable to hold in your hand. As for the size, they are 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and weigh 137 grams.
The front is dominated by a compact screen with dimensions of only 5 inches. The upper and lower frame is very large and to be honest it was strange to see such a design in 2019.
The frontal part looks more like the Redmi 4A smartphone lineup from 2017 release.
On the upper part is the front camera, conversational speaker, light and distance sensors. LED indicator in the device is missing.
At the bottom of the screen are three old control keys with no backlight.
Inputs and outputs are located on the case – 3.5 mm headphone jack on top.
On the right side the volume and power keys, on the left – two separate slots for dual nanoSIM and microSD cards.
On the bottom side are the microphone and speaker, as well as the old micro USB port.
In general, for $ 60 is a good strong phone, which is convenient to use even with one hand because of its compact size. The build quality and materials at a good level and corresponds to its price.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Screen
Better than I expected. The old proven screen with an aspect ratio of 16: 9. The display is only 5 inches in size with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a density of 296 ppi.
This is an IPS matrix with good viewing angles, but the brightness falls at an angle, so you should not expect a super result.
The screen is susceptible to simultaneous 5-point contact (multi-touch) and has 2.5D glass. We also mention that it supports 73% of NTSC color and has a 1000: 1 contrast ratio.
The content itself is very clear and clearly displayed on the screen, the colors are bright, the letters and icons are readable.
As for the brightness of the screen Xiaomi Redmi Go in our test, we measured it with our measuring device and got a rating of 378 lux at maximum brightness. In other words, it will be problematic to use it on a sunny day.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Hardware and Performance
The hardware configuration of Xiaomi Redmi Go in the analisis is very common, so we know exactly what to expect from this smartphone. Its capabilities will be satisfied by the overwhelming majority of users.
The smartphone runs on the popular 4-core processor Snapdragon 425. It was developed using 28-nanometer technology and was produced at the end of 2016.
It also has the Adreno 308 graphics, which operates at 667 MHz, so you can also enjoy simple arcade video games.
Redmi Go has only 1 GB of RAM, which is not enough to use multitasking. If you do not open many applications at the same time, there will be no big slowdowns. The internal memory is 8 or 16 GB and can be expanded with a microSD card up to 128GB.
It is known that the Adreno 308 graphics chip does not have a very good reputation for heavy modern 3D games.
If you want to play PUBG Mobile then you will not succeed in it, games are easier, for example, Real Racing 3, the device works, but sometimes there are slowdowns. During games, Xiaomi Redmi Go heats up very little.
Therefore, we can conclude that the smartphone is not designed for extreme games, but rather for simple arcade games that are graphically less demanding.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Software
The smartphone runs on the Android Go operating system, which is based on Android 8.x. Xiaomi Redmi Go in our analisis has a stock version of the operating system, but with simplified elements. So, most of the basic applications are already pre-installed and you can install applications from Google Play.
But with a simplified version, you get optimized apps from Google Play. Therefore, even Youtube is very simplified and I was not comfortable using it. If you install through the .apk application, even Youtube, you will get a full version that is convenient to use.
The smartphone works quickly and efficiently, during testing we did not notice any interruptions and slowdowns.
Regardless of the speed of Xiaomi Redmi Go, we always recommend closing all applications that you do not use in the background so that you can reduce battery consumption and even increase the speed and smoothness of the OS.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Camera
Since this is a budget class smartphone, the device does not have a main dual camera.
The rear camera has an 8-megapixel sensor with 4 lenses, an f/2.0 aperture, as well as a stronger LED flash and autofocus. Also, the camera application supports face detection, HDR, panorama, and filters.
We took several photos under different shooting conditions (sunny, cloudy, indoor, LED flash, and at night). As you can see, the photos themselves are quite bright and beautiful in sunny weather. With poor lighting, the quality of photos drops instantly.
Front 5-megapixel camera with 3-elements in the lens and f/2.2 aperture. The camera supports the timer function and the HDR mode.
Let’s also mention, the main camera in the test can record Full HD video with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at a speed of 30 frames per second without any stabilization.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Sound
The sound for a budget smartphone is good and loud. But this does not mean that it is perfect because in a $60 device you will not find a sound better than that of Redmi Go.
Of course, you can always get the best sound quality through a wired (3.5 mm input) or wireless (Bluetooth) headset.
We tested several of our top-quality FLAC test compositions and using our meter we measured the speaker power (at a distance of about 50 centimeters) at 80.4 dB.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Communication
I can argue that Xiaomi Redmi Go is designed to communicate. At its price, it has all the basic things you need for communication and wireless.
The smartphone supports 4G LTE, which works on both SIM-cards. The quality of telephony is standard.
When testing GPS, we found 19 satellites (15 active) with an accuracy of 3 meters.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Battery
The autonomy of work considering the HD resolution of the screen and the processor from Snapdragon consumption will be insignificant.
Xiaomi Redmi Go has a 3000 mAh lithium polymer battery that supports charging (5V/1A). We checked a few test charges and discharges, that’s what we got:
– 35% in 30 minutes
– 72% in 60 minutes
– 92% in 90 minutes
– 100% for 126 minutes (2:06 hours)
On average, the battery life will be about one or even one and a half full days, depending on the degree of use and workload.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Conclusion and Reviews
It seems to us that the company Xiaomi decided to produce the most budget smartphone from its line with proven and popular features and a very good balance between the components.
The quality of the assembly and materials corresponds to its price. Xiaomi Redmi Go strong and reliable in our review, even when falling on a hard surface, you can not worry too much.
Of course, we should not forget about fast and smooth work with the simplified Android Go operating system. The presence of a Snapdragon chipset ensures good power consumption and balancing performance.
The camera and battery remain average. But in good sunny weather, you can get beautiful pictures. And if you use the phone rarely, battery life is enough for up to 2-3 days.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can buy and order a Xiaomi Redmi Go phone at a low price for only $62.99 at a 30% discount.
For its price, the smartphone is well suited as a teenager or a pensioner who does not need maximum technical specs.
