Today I want to talk about the budget monitor model from Xiaomi, namely the subdivision of the Redmi sub-brand. Many of you know that the manufacturer Redmi produces a large number of smartphones, both budget, and flagship. But besides this, the Chinese manufacturer decided to introduce to the market a budget version of the monitor called Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A.
In this article, I will tell my impression about the quality of the matrix itself, as well as its advantages and disadvantages.
As for the price tag, as I said, this Redmi monitor model belongs to the budget category. The official price of the Redmi Display 1A is around $80, but it’s in China. If you look at Aliexpress online stores, the price tag is more than twice as much as about $200. But also at the end of the article, I will tell you how to buy a device at a price of $80 from China.
If you look at the technical specifications of the monitor, then everything is not so bad. For example, the screen size was 23.8 inches with an IPS matrix and Full HD resolution. The response time was 6 ms with a refresh rate of 75 Hz, while the contrast was 1000: 1.
In the detailed review, you can find out whether to buy Redmi Display 1A from China or whether it is better to purchase an inexpensive model in the domestic market of your country. If you are interested in my opinion about the monitor itself and its features, let’s get down to a full and detailed review.
Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A: Specifications
|Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A:||Specs|
|Screen size:||23.8 inches|
|Resolution:||1920 x 108 pixels|
|Display ratio:||16: 9|
|Color gamut:||90% NTSC|
|Product net weight:||4.2 kg|
|Machine size:||539.2 (L) × 181.2 (W) × 419.5 (H) mm|
The monitor comes in a rather large box weighing about 4.2 kg. On the front of the box, you can find a sketch of the monitor and the name of the model, although most of the inscriptions are written in Chinese.
Inside the box, I saw a well-packed monitor itself in a protective foam with transport cellophane.
Also, in individual grooves of the foam, there was a leg and an arm with additional screws. Naturally, instruction and various documentation were also present, but all in Chinese.
In addition, I want to note that the kit also includes a power adapter, which is very compact and does not take up much space. I liked this solution because there are no unnecessary components on the floor or next to the monitor.
Like most Redmi or Xiaomi products, the new Redmi Display 1A monitor is designed in a minimalist style.
Regarding build quality? The first thing I thought the monitor would be made entirely of plastic. But here I was pleasantly surprised since the monitor leg is made of aluminum alloy and the back of the monitor also has a metal insert.
I was pleasantly surprised because I did not even suspect such a combination in a budget monitor for $80. Of course, at the bottom of the back of the monitor, there are also plastic elements, as well as on the front side.
The assembly itself is very simple and not complicated. It took me about 5 minutes to complete the monitor. The first thing to do is to connect the leg and bracket to one screw. Then connect the bracket to the monitor body itself with two more screws.
Now I want to talk about external interfaces. Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A received a port for a power adapter and HDMI with a VGA port. I rarely see users who use the VGA port. I think that in the future we will be able to forget about this connection and use HDMI as the main one.
Near the ports, there is a mechanical control joystick and a built-in power button. I liked this control method, it is very simple and straightforward and much easier to control than a large number of unnecessary buttons under the monitor.
The most interesting solution for me was the thickness of the monitor case. Indeed, the thickness is very thin, which was about 7.3 mm. For example, if you compare it with my smartphone, then in thickness it is completely identical.
Also, the frames around the screen are very small, I also have not seen other budget models of monitors with such small frames. The size of the frame at the edges and top was 4 mm but in the lower part about 20 mm.
After using several days of the new Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A monitor, I did not find any flaws. The build quality is at a high level, the footholds the monitor well and steadily, even the materials used from aluminum alloy offer a good bonus.
Functions, Menu and Picture Quality
As I already mentioned, Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A received a screen size that is small by modern standards, but for most users, it will be quite enough.
This is a 24.8 inch IPS screen, which received the native resolution of Full HD or 1080 x 1920 pixels. The screen ratio was 16: 9.
I don’t know exactly who produces this matrix for the monitor, but it really shows a good result in terms of brightness of 250 nits, a contrast ratio of 1000: 1, and viewing angles of 178 degrees.
I can assume that the monitor can use a matrix from Samsung or even LG, as on a gaming monitor from Xiaomi Mi Surface Display. In addition, I conducted several tests and did not find a single broken pixel, which made me very happy.
In the settings menu, the Redmi Display 1A monitor offers two languages — Chinese and English. As I already mentioned, the control is carried out thanks to the mini-joystick on the back panel of the device.
In the main menu, you can set the brightness, contrast, color temperature, viewing modes, such as standard, ECO, game, for movies, and with low blue light modes.
Now I want to conduct a test on dynamic games and check the delay at 6ms, does it really work adequately? I started about five shooters and the result was very positive. At the same time, the picture was not blurry at all, and the scenes were very accurate and clear.
Naturally, it is very difficult to call it gaming, but do not forget about the price tag of about $80. Of course, game monitors will show even better indicators, since their response time is 1 ms. In the case of Redmi Display 1A and 6 ms, I was completely satisfied with its work.
Conclusion and Reviews
It is currently difficult to find a quality product that will have good technical features and specs, but the Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A monitor has shown high performance.
First of all, I liked the high-quality assembly with the materials used from aluminum alloy. Also a very thin case with minimal frames and the whole design in a minimalist style.
As for image quality, the IPS matrix showed a good response in games, high-quality color reproduction. The brightness and contrast will be enough for everyday tasks.
Price and Where to buy cheaper?
As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the official price of Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A in China is $80. It is currently not possible to buy on Aliexpress at this price, but I found a seller on Alibaba where you can buy a monitor for $82.
Naturally, if you order a Redmi Display 1A monitor for such a low price, then I definitely can recommend it for purchase.
