Xiaomi has recently introduced another new product that really deserves its attention. Today in the review I will talk about a new smartphone called Xiaomi Redmi 9C.
I can refer this smartphone to the budget category, since the price tag for it is quite attractive, about $120 for the version 2/32 GB.
I’ve always been interested in inexpensive smartphones, but how will the new model behave this time? Let me tell you my impression in a detailed review. Also here you can find out the main advantages, disadvantages, performance tests, and sample photos.
First of all, Redmi 9C is not only a modern smartphone that has received NFC support, but also a good MediaTek Helio G35 processor and a large 5000 mAh battery. In addition, the device received a triple main camera and has a global version of the operating system.
Therefore, I propose to start the review of the budget smartphone Redmi 9C with unboxing, and then consider all the other main aspects.

Unboxing and packaging
I received a standard box in white with a picture of the smartphone and the model name on the front. On the side, you can find brief technical characteristics and features of the device.
Inside the box, the smartphone itself is located in protective shipping cellophane and a protective film with the main features.
Below are other typical components. This is a SIM tray needle, a 10W power adapter, and a Micro USB cable.
I was not very happy that the package lacked a protective case, as well as the presence of a Micro USB cable instead of Type-C. Considering their price, other manufacturers, for example, Umidigi, offer much better equipment and they have forgotten once and for all that Micro USB ports are, even in ultra-budget smartphones.
Design, materials and build quality
The presence of premium materials in a budget smartphone is out of the question. Therefore, the new Xiaomi Redmi 9C model is made of durable and structured plastic on the back of the lid.
The smartphone comes in three colors – gray, blue, and orange. As for me, the latter is very stylish and unusual, as for a young man or a girl. Other colors are chosen by more restrained and adults.
The build quality is of a high standard, just like other smartphone models in the Redmi lineup. I did not find any squeaks or sounds. In this case, the buttons are pressed with good feedback.
As I already mentioned on the back of the Redmi 9C smartphone, there is a square island with a triple main camera and an LED flash. In the central part, there is a round fingerprint scanner module.
As for the control buttons, they are standard like most Xiaomi models. That is, the power button and the volume rocker are located on the right side.
On the opposite side, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and one memory card up to 512 GB. This is not a hybrid slot and each slot can be used at the same time.
A 3.5 mm audio jack was installed in the upper part, but they did not provide a standard infrared port for controlling home appliances.
And finally, at the bottom, there is a Micro USB port for charging, a microphone hole, and the main speaker. I have already expressed a negative impression about the Micro USB port in the unpacking section.
As for the front, the device received a large 6.53-inch screen with HD + resolution or 1600 x 720 pixels.
I have no strong comments on the quality of the screen, it received quite rich and bright colors. Even in sunny weather, the brightness of the screen will be sufficient for comfortable reading.
I would also like to note that Redmi 9C received such indicators as 70.8% NTSC and 1500: 1 contrast ratio. In addition, the smartphone has a wide range of settings where you can choose blue eye protection and a reading mode.
In appearance, the smartphone turned out to be not ideal, since the manufacturer considered it necessary to get rid of the infrared port and leave the old Micro USB port. Other aspects such as build quality and materials used are pretty decent.
Performance, benchmark tests, and operating system
This is my first encounter with a new generation of the processor from MediaTek, namely the Helio G35 model. This processor can be found in two other budget smartphones from Realme – the C11 and C15 models.
The Helio G35 processor received eight cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.3 GHz. This chipset also works with the PowerVR8320 graphics accelerator. If we talk about games, then the smartphone runs even the most difficult and heavy games, but do not forget that this is a budget smartphone and it is not intended for constant pastime in games.
Also, the smartphone received two memory modifications – 2 or 3 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal memory. I have a 2/32 GB version and I believe that it will be enough for everyday tasks. In addition, the smartphone received a separate memory slot for up to 512 GB of space.
Below I will leave the results of benchmarks, namely AnTuTu, GeekBench, and others. Of course, the indicators are not the greatest, but given its low cost, I have no strong objections.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, the Redmi 9C received a clean operating system. It is built on Android 10 with the MiUI user interface.
If you have previously used or encountered the MiUI interface, then you will not have any problems in the future. Although even if this is your first encounter, the interface itself is very simple, it has a large number of useful functions that you will learn more than one day.
The user interface itself is very fast and I didn’t notice any delays. Any application opens quickly and swipes very smoothly and without jerking.
Another important feature is the presence of the NFC module. But I want to note that this module may or may not be depending on the region. In any case, this is a good sign that the smartphone will be equipped with an NFC module in a budget smartphone for $ 120.
In addition, Redmi 9C received a dual Wi-Fi network with ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for an accurate and fast GPS signal.
Camera and sample photos
If the majority of Chinese companies, such as Doogee, Oukitel, and others, can afford to deceive the user with the presence of a triple main camera module. In the case of the Redmi brand, this will not be permissible. Therefore, the triple camera on Redmi 9C is real and each sensor works flawlessly.
The main module received a 13-megapixel resolution and it shows good image quality during daylight hours. The second and third modules have a 2-megapixel resolution for macro and bokeh shots. Of course, the result of macro photos is not the best, but portrait shots are not bad enough.
Of course, I would like to see here instead of macro mode – ultra-wide mode. But again, don’t forget the price tag.
As usual, I will leave below an album with photos taken with the Redmi 9C camera, where you can see the quality of the photos.
Another positive thing about the Redmi 9C is the 5000mAh battery capacity. Considering that the screen resolution is only 720p, the power consumption will not be significant, such as Full HD resolution.
Also, the new and modern processor from MediaTek shows good power consumption. In practice, the smartphone spent about 9% of the charge when watching a video on Youtube at maximum brightness in one hour.
In general, a full two days for Redmi 9C will not be a problem. Therefore, the battery life on one charge is a strong point.
But here is also the negative side of the coin – it is slow charging via the Micro USB port and a 10W power adapter. A full charge from 0 to 100% will take you just over three hours of your time.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Redmi 9C – I cannot call the smartphone the worst in the Redmi line, but it is not an example for most other little-known brands.
For example, the main disadvantage I can attribute is the Micro USB port, which is not compatible even for a budget smartphone in 2020. Many manufacturers have long forgotten about its existence, and Redmi is trying to save a little more on its consumers.
On the other hand, the main advantage of the inexpensive Redmi 9C is the presence of an NFC module. This is a really big leap that will help bring even budget smartphones to higher sales levels.
Other features are not bad, as for a budget smartphone – a large and bright screen, a modern processor, and large battery capacity.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
If we talk about the price, then at present you can purchase a new smartphone with the global version of Xiaomi Redmi 9C at an attractive price – $ 119.99 for the 2/32 GB version. The next version of the memory will cost a little more, namely $ 139.99.
Despite its shortcomings, I can recommend a smartphone for purchase. Since all the shortcomings are covered by a good filling and an affordable price.
