We review in depth the best phone of the fashion brand. The Xiaomi POCO F1 is a balanced, powerful device with an excellent battery for the international market.
Xiaomi has made clear the lines of its growth worldwide. In 2018, it has strengthened its presence in Europe and set the benchmarks for future destinations.
For this, it has created a very interesting range of mid-range phones, among which the Xiaomi Mi A2 stands out, but has also done the same with the high-end.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 has been the flagship of the company until the presentation of the Xiaomi POCO F1 in the test.
This model has opted to maintain the purest essence of Xiaomi: a very attractive price, very good specifications and design and no differentiating element that can suppose a notorious price increase.
The cost of this model is lower than expected, and that becomes one of the most powerful sales arguments. So, let’s see the main specs of Xiaomi POCO F1.

Xiaomi POCO F1: Unboxing and Package
This black-and-yellow box of Xiaomi POCO F1 is nice and stylish. On the front side, we see the name of the line POCOPHONE. On the back side, there are basic specs of the phone.
Let’s see what’s inside, here we see this phone itself with a protective film and the main specifications on the screen.
Also, there is a protective transparent black silicone case, a power adapter with fast charging 12V/1.5A, SIM needle and instruction in English.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Desing and Appearance
When metal was not an omnipresent material, it was easier to differentiate between mid-range and high-end phones. Currently, it seems that this difference falls on metal and polycarbonate or plastic.
The Xiaomi POCO F1 is a device that boasts a design for the quality of its finishes and while it is true that visually recalls the iPhone X for its large notch but polycarbonate back with dual vertical camera in the back and LED flash in the middle, in the hand the sensation is not that.
I want to note that this Xiaomi POCO F1 is about $350, so here is used a special polycarbonate cover for better grip and that the phone does not slip when used.
The two metal faces are joined by a metal frame that closely resembles the Mi MIX 2S and away from the Xiaomi Mi 8.
In our opinion was more elegant and discreet, although if we look at it now it seems that it has more than one year, for the big screen frames.
The Xiaomi POCO F1 in the test has a slightly larger lower frame, where the camera connectors.
Also a big notch for the need to put the sensors for facial recognition in 3D, which does not use just the front camera.
As for the ergonomics of the Xiaomi POCO F1, everything is as usual on the right here there is a rocker of sound and power button.
The left side we see is the slot for the Hybrid Dual SIM. So, you can use two SIM cards or one SIM card and one microSD memory card up to 256GB.
Also, I liked very much the presence of 3.5mm audio jack connector on Xiaomi POCO F1 in the analisis. This is a big plus for a modern phone.
For example, Xiaomi Mi A2 as you know there is no microSD memory card slot and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
On the bottom of the phone of POCO F1 are the USB Type-C port, speaker, and microphone.
I also wanted to note that the Xiaomi POCO F1 does not have any IP protection for water, fall or dust, but it’s worth remembering about a price of about $300.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Display
Xiaomi has opted to use IPS LCD technology on its 6.18-inch screen in 18.7: 9 format. The resolution is FullHD + (2246 x 1080 pixels), which does not give us the greatest possible clarity but a greater autonomy.
The quality of the panel is good for Xiaomi POCO F1 in our analisis, and the color gradients typical of this technology are appreciated especially when leaning the phone.
Although we have the facial unlocking sensor, we can activate the option that when lifting the phone off a table it is turned on, to activate this sensor, when activated. We can also do that with a double tap on the screen to turn it on.
This is useful if we see that we have some notification, something that will be possible with the active screen, the function that illuminates only the pixels needed to show the icon of the specific application, in addition to the time.
Outdoors and in full sun, the screen is completely usable, although it would have appreciated a bit more brightness, at least in the automatic mode, which is what we have mostly used.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Hardware and Performance
The best international phone of Xiaomi needs the best processor, and that’s what the company has done, choosing the most powerful available, the Snapdragon 845.
The memory starts at 6 GB of RAM and although it shows, you have to be careful with MIUI 9.6 (POCO customization), who manages it aggressively, as we know.
If we choose to block applications in multitasking so that they do not close in the background (sliding it down in that area of the interface) we will see how the battery suffers.
The internal memory of the unit that we have given is 64 GB but it has microSD (or two slots are for SIM cards), the memory has not fallen short, as happened with the 32 GB of the Xiaomi Mi A2.
One of the good features that we can put the phone, at least for the moment, is that it has available facial unlocking.
According to what we have been told, it is a feature that is available in all countries simultaneously.
For the moment we must always use the fingerprint sensor or facial unlocking at the same time if we do not want to return to the PIN, pattern or password.
These sensors work very well, is fast and efficient and allows you to scan the same finger several times to improve even more the efficiency of each recognition.
We also have Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, but as expected there is 3.5 mm audio jack or FM radio.
The surprise in this section comes with the lack of infrared, something that although it is not very demanded is always useful.
We should also mention the Dual GPS, a new positioning system of this Xiaomi POCO F1 in the test.
We have not seen that it involves a radical change when using apps that use this chip, beyond a higher speed of positioning.
It will be relevant in specific cases, such as athletes and workers who use this service a lot.
Also one of the drawbacks is the lack of wireless charging, but given the price of the phone, you can close your eyes to it.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Software
Although a few weeks ago that Xiaomi presented the tenth version of MIUI, in this case, we settled for version 9.6 with POCO customization, which has been updated with bug fixes while we were using the phone for this review.
The options of the interface we have commented on several articles but we emphasize the fluidity of it.
The management of autonomy of Xiaomi POCO F1 in the test and the details that come from having Android 8.1 Oreo, which is the base version on which runs MIUI.
There are some pre-installed applications, many of them from Google as usual, but many others from Xiaomi and Microsoft, which even has its own folder. However, we can uninstall them without the major problem.
The only drawback is the management of some elements such as notifications.
Although they have improved in the latest versions, and details such as the options to select and copy, more limited than those that Android has by default, and more uncomfortable to use.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Cameras
The photographic facet remains one of the differential factors in high-end phones.
Xiaomi has done a good job in almost all ranges but it is in this type of phones where you can get the most out of it.
The Xiaomi POCO F1 in our review has a dual camera with 12-megapixels and aperture f/1.9 and another 5-megapixels with f/2.0 for depth effect.
The first is the one used to make conventional photos and the second has a depth sensor.
The decision of the firm not to eliminate this aspect is grateful because in the most recent Mi and Redmi is not found. Only the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S has the same camera.
The quality of day is quite good and the second sensor, even with a fairly conventional aperture, gives very decent results, similar to those of previous models. We do not see big changes here.
The portrait mode is maintained at a level similar to that of previous mobiles but it gives us the sensation that sometimes it is difficult to focus if it is not a face the element that we want to highlight with the background blur.
Where if you notice the advance is at night, when we see the rise in image quality, and note the care put in the processing. Yes, it is improvable in some shots the color temperature and the interpretation of it, but it is nothing that we have not seen also in other phones.
The presence of artifacts in these conditions is appreciated when there are few sources of light and darker areas, although we have to enlarge the image enough to see them.
As for the video, a quite remarkable stabilization is observed by the mobile phone but at night this is usually not enough and together with the difficulty of focusing we have improvable shots.
Again, it’s not much worse than its rivals, but you have to push the high-end as they are supposed to do the best.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Battery
Xiaomi knows that one of the strengths of their phones is autonomy. Part of the blame for this is from MIUI, as we have recently checked by testing the Xiaomi Mi A2.
In the Xiaomi POCO F1, we have more amperage, 4000 mAh, but above all a better management of autonomy.
We have done several tests and we have had 6 hours of screen with more than 30 total hours of autonomy.
It may seem small but the use has been very intense in applications (Google Maps, Benchmarks, Gaming photography and others) and we have also used it mostly under mobile coverage, without Wifi.
With a less intensive use we have reached the same total 35 hours, but with more than 6-inches screen, and that without connecting to any Wi-Fi network.
We do not reach the excellent figures of the Redmi Note but we can not stop valuing what the company achieved.
As we said that the battery of the Mi A2 was not disastrous but recommended in the POCO F1.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Conclusions and Reviews
When we tried the Xiaomi Mi A2 we ended up with a not bittersweet feeling, but it was less fresh than when reviewing its predecessor. In this case, we have to say the same.
Obviously, the Xiaomi POCO F1 in our review is one of the most powerful and elegant phones in the current scene, but it has dazzled us with its price.
Its excellent price-quality ratio, the possibility of buying it in a simple way is in online stores or in conventional distributors.
Also, it is positioned as one of the recommendations of the year.
Of course, Xiaomi has to polish some software, such as some incomplete translations of the interface, the lack of wireless charging and protection from water and dust, but at such a price we can close our eyes to these disadvantages.
The presence of a microSD memory card and a 3.5mm audio jack gives a good and positive impression. Also, a large battery capacity is a good factor for autonomous operation in 2 days with active use.
It is nothing shocking, but something that slightly overshadows the general mouthfeel that leaves this smartphone.
Xiaomi POCO F1: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
The new phone model for the international market only today officially introduced the phone, but you can already buy Xiaomi POCO F1 at a good price for only $369.99.
