Xiaomi has updated its budget line of a laser projector, which received not only a difference in appearance but also in technical characteristics and specs. The name of the new projector was given to Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0.
In this complete and in-depth review, I will tell you the main advantages of a laser projector, but also its disadvantages. Also in this article, you will find out whether it is worth purchasing expensive laser projectors as for the first projector for home use. Or maybe they all buy a budget LED projector that will be five times cheaper.
Let’s talk a little about the cost, you can currently get the Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 projector for $999.99 using coupon BGNVXM758. That is, it is very attractive and I am sure that this is the most affordable price for a laser projector. But let’s figure out what the catch is and why the price tag is much lower than that of its fellows and competitors.
The new projector has a native 1080p resolution using ALPD3.0 technology. In addition, the device received a quad-core Amlogic T972 processor, 2, and 16 GB of memory, as well as the MIUI TV operating system. The maximum brightness was 2400 lumens.
So let’s see how the new laser projector differs from the rest of its brethren. I plan to start my in-depth review with the exterior.

Design, build quality and materials
The body of the new Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 laser projector is made of glossy white plastic. But on the front, there is a gray fabric that gives the device a modern and minimalistic look.
In terms of build quality, everything suited me, all the gaps are in their places, and even when carrying the projector, I did not find any sounds. Of course, fingerprints will be good on the glossy white plastic. But since the body is white, you won’t see fingerprints unless you look closely.
There is only one power button on the top of the case. Therefore, the projector is controlled via the remote control included in the kit. It also has a small number of buttons, but they are enough for the full use of a modern laser projector. The remote control is made in a combination of white glossy and black matte plastic.
On the front, you can see the lens and optical autofocus. That is, nothing superfluous, everything is as usual, but I will talk about the lens itself and its features a little later.
On the left side, there are dual coolers for active cooling. These are fairly quiet coolers that do their job well and quietly. For example, on my test, the noise at a distance of one meter was about 40 dB and when watching movies or playing games, it is practically inaudible.
At the opposite end, there are dual 10W speakers with dimensions of 1.75 inches. So, I want to point out that the sound quality is very good for an inexpensive laser projector. There is even bass here, and mids and highs do not wheeze even at maximum volume.
On the backside of Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0, all external connections are located. These include Ethernet, S/PDIF, audio output, two USB 2.0 ports, and two more HDMI ports. There is a power port just below.
The bottom of the projector has four anti-slip rubber feet and four holes for wall or ceiling mounting.
After using the projector on an ongoing basis for about three months, I can honestly say that the Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 is one of the best devices I have ever tested. Therefore, let me tell you about the main difference between a laser projector and its main features.
Performance and picture quality
Before talking about the quality of the projection screen, let’s share my impressions of the performance of Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0. Inside the projector, a quad-core Amlogic T972 processor was installed, which operates at a clock speed of 1.9 GHz.
In addition, the device received 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. Of course, the internal memory is not as much as we would like, but I think it is enough for some applications.
As I already mentioned, the projector is running the MIUI TV operating system. It is in Chinese out of the box, but this system can be easily configured to English. But apart from the Chinese language, I also didn’t like a large number of Chinese apps. Therefore, my preference is to use a separate TV box or game console.
Now, let’s tell you about the technical details. Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 received a native resolution of Full HD or 1920 x 1080 pixels. That is, the main difference between a laser projector compared to its competitors is the lack of 4K resolution. Of course, the new projector supports 4K video and plays it without any problems.
Another important feature is the projection method. It was this projector that received the Long Throw, which means that the distance from the projection screen should be from 2 to 4 meters. Most laser projectors have a short projection screen distance and you can get 150 inches at half a meter.
Considering that the laser projector only received 2400 lumens brightness level. And their older brothers have from 2500 and reaching 9000 lumens, the brightness indicator of Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 is the smallest.
But I don’t want to say that the brightness is not enough. On the contrary, there is a lot of it here, as for a projector with a native resolution of 1080p. I can even say with confidence that a laser projector has the best brightness in the practice of all budget projects that I have been able to test.
Of course, it is better to watch movies or TV shows in complete darkness, but if you turn on the projector during the day with the curtains closed, then the brightness will be enough for comfortable watching a movie.
It is also worth noting some indicators such as 100% Rec. 709 HDTV and 100% deltaE <2.5. This means that the color rendition fully complies with the norms and standards 100%.
In addition, I cannot say bad things about autofocusing, as on the projection screen on all surfaces the focus was clear and without any blurring. In general, I really liked the picture, both when reading the text and when watching the video.
In the projector settings menu, you can adjust the angle of the projection screen if your projector is not facing directly to the projection screen. For example, the horizontal and vertical keystone correction was ± 45 degrees. At the same time, focusing is not distorted and the picture remains clear.
In general, I really liked the quality of the projection picture. I enjoyed watching films and playing games. Therefore, if you are looking for a laser projector at a more budget price, then the Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 variant would be a good choice.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 is a professional laser projector with perfect projection screen quality.
During my test and use, I did not find any strong flaws. One of the advantages of this model is the native 1080p resolution, high details, and good autofocus performance.
In addition, the color rendition has good and realistic colors that look alive and literally look out of the window.
Of course, a laser projector is inferior to its competitors, since it does not have a native 4K resolution and also the distance from the screen should be up to 4 meters, not 0.5 meters. But thanks to this, the cost of the new Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 laser projector is very attractive.
