An updated version of the flagship laptop from Xiaomi was presented just a month ago. I have already managed to test the new version of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 and I think you will be interested to hear my opinion.
I have already conducted various tests of the device for about 4 days and believe me, I have something to share with you. In this review, I will talk not only about the advantages, but also the disadvantages, including.
First of all, I want to note that I have a Mi Notebook Pro device with the maximum configuration on my test. Namely with the i7-11370H processor, which will cost you $1200. But there is also a version with the i5-11300H chipset, and its cost will be in the range of $1060.
Yes, the cost of the new version of the laptop is not the most impressive and sweet. But when examining the technical features, I immediately understand what the buyer will pay such a lot of money for.
In addition to high performance, the 2021 laptop from Xiaomi offers a 15.6-inch OLED screen with a high resolution of 3200 x 2000 pixels. The manufacturer also installed a screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Therefore, gamers will definitely like this screen.
Other features I can refer to are a rather thin laptop case with low weight. The device also comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal SSD storage. An important feature will also be the built-in 70 Wh battery with fast charging.
Thus, I propose to start my detailed and in-depth review of the new generation of laptop from the Xiaomi brand and find out the strengths and weaknesses of the device in real life.

Unboxing and packaging
Like its predecessors, the new Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro laptop comes in the most common cardboard packaging.
On the box itself, you will not find any drawings, but only the name of the model and brand will be present on the front. But on the side of the package, there is a sticker with the main technical features.
Meanwhile, inside the package, the laptop itself was packed in a protective foam. Also included is a 100W power adapter and a set of documentation. You can also find an interesting device called USB-Hub, which also comes with the new generation of laptop.
In general, the package is very standard, but I liked the presence of an additional USB-Hub. Okay, now let’s check what materials the device is assembled from and how high quality it is.
Design, build quality and materials
Like all flagship laptop models from Xiaomi, the new version of the Mi Notebook Pro 2021 received a similar minimalist design. The body of the device was made of an alloy of various metals. But the color of the case remains the same, like that of its counterparts, using a gray matte material.
Yes, I also liked the workmanship and build quality. Every element has been assembled perfectly well. Even the hinges of the lid open very smoothly and without strong forces or extraneous sounds.
On the outside of the lid, the company name flaunts – Xiaomi. But there is no illumination of the company logo. As I said, the appearance and design of the device is made in a minimalistic style and I did not see much difference between our brothers.
In terms of size and weight, the new laptop model weighs only 1.8 kg excluding the charging power supply. Considering the weight of the adapter and power cable, the total weight will be just over 2 kg. The Mi Notebook Pro is only 16mm thick and is really thin for both its size and weight.
Now let me check one test that most laptops don’t do. It is the ability to open a laptop lid with one hand. Surprisingly, the new laptop model from Xiaomi passed this test very easily.
Under the lid of the laptop, you will be able to notice the keyboard and touchpad touchpad. The keyboard itself received a very pleasant button press. So, typing during my testing was a pleasure. There were practically no accidental clicks and the accuracy of typing letters was almost 100%.
It is also worth noting that the distance between the keys is quite large. In the upper right corner is the Xiaomi AI button. But the power button has been separately highlighted and has a built-in fingerprint scanner. The scanner itself worked quite accurately and I had no complaints about its work.
The keyboard also received two backlight modes, which will be useful when using the device at night.
A rather large touchpad was installed just below the keyboard. Naturally, it supports gestures. It also got good responsiveness, without too many jumps or other problems. On the whole, the touchpad was particularly pleasant to me.
The left side of the laptop received a Type-C port for charging the device with a battery level indicator. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone connection nearby. But on the right side of the laptop, two more Type-C connections were installed. But the case does not provide a separate slot for a MicroSD card or a standard USB connection.
Perhaps for some, this will be a significant problem, but as I mentioned above, an additional USB hub is included in the package. This adapter has USB-A and HDMI ports. Perhaps they will be useful, but I would also buy a slightly different USB hub with a lot of USB ports and other connections.
The bottom of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 has four anti-slip rubber feet. Also on this surface you can find two stereo speakers and cooling vents.
At the same time, the sound quality at the maximum volume level is very good. For example, the sound has a fairly deep bass and there is even good detail.
Screen and image quality
Not surprisingly, the flagship notebook model has started to use a very high-quality, high-resolution OLED screen. That is, the laptop model Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 received a standard 15.6 inches in size. But already with the use of OLED screen technology with 3.5K resolution.
If you look at the sRGB graphics, the result is 100%. This is a very good indicator and therefore the color rendering of the new laptop screen is very high. Another advantage is, or rather, the absence of any noise at a low brightness level of the screen.
At the same time, the maximum value of the brightness level on the 2021 laptop model was 540 nits. This is also a very good indicator for the laptop category. Overall, I think that the new generation of Xiaomi notebooks received the brightest, most contrasting and vibrant screen that I have been able to test.
I also liked the slight borders on the right and left sides. But on the upper frame there is also a front camera with a resolution of 1 megapixel.
But the video call quality is not the best, since the maximum resolution was only 720p. Although the sound quality of the microphone was pretty decent and good.
Performance, benchmarks tests, games and OS
As I said at the beginning of the review, I have the highest version of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 laptop. That is, my tested device uses an Intel Core i7-11370H processor. It was introduced in the first quarter of 2021 and received 10 nanometer processor technology. It is a quad-core, eight-thread chipset that has performed quite solidly in various benchmark tests.
For example, below I will leave an album with various benchmark tests, and you can compare the results with your laptop or main competitors.
It is also worth noting that the laptop has a built-in graphics card of the new generation Intel Iris Xe together with a processor. But also, the device has a separate NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics card. So let’s take a look at the gaming capabilities of the new laptop model.
The first game on my list is Cyberpunk 2077. At 720p and low graphics settings, the FPS was in the 40-45 range. At the same time, the temperature of the GPU was about 70 degrees Celsius, and the processor itself was about 95 degrees.
The next game The Witcher 3 with the same 720p resolution showed a value of about 90 to 100 FPS. Apart from that, the temperature was similar and this is not very good. If you set the resolution to 1080p, then the FPS value is almost halved and will be within 60 frames per second.
I also managed to play the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider. At 1080p, the FPS was around 40. This game was very comfortable to play, just like other games on my list, by the way.
The peak value of the CPU temperature level was about 98 degrees Celsius and this is not a very good indicator. At the same time, the temperature of the upper part of the keyboard was about 52 degrees Celsius. Therefore, prolonged loads will not have a particularly positive effect on the performance of the new generation of laptop.
Also, the laptop model Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 received 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory in SSD format. As I already said, there is no separate memory card slot on board the device. At the same time, the read speed of the built-in memory was 2335 MBps, and the write speed was 1434 MBps. This is not a record speed, but it is also not the smallest.
If you check the laptop for playing video files, then the new generation Mi Notebook Pro can easily play videos at 4K and 60 frames per second. Also, I did not find any serious problems with 4K video and 160 Mbps rate.
And yes, if you are looking for a laptop for video editing, then the choice of the new model Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro will be quite positive. For example, during my testing, a 1 minute 4K video exported in 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
Yes, this is not the fastest export time, as the new GeForce MX450 GPU was created for a bit different tasks. When using the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics card, the export time will be in the region of 1 minute.
The last thing I wanted to talk about is the operating system. The 2021 laptop from Xiaomi uses the Chinese version of Windows 10 OS.
If you want to use English, and not Chinese, then you will have to use your license key from the Windows operating system. After that, you can easily choose the language you need. If you do not have a license key, then you can update the operating system and then select the language you need.
In general, the entire user interface was quite stable and did not cause me much discomfort during my testing of the device.
Battery and run time
Inside the case, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro uses a 70 Wh battery. During my testing, the device was able to last about 5 hours of active use.
Yes, you may be able to achieve more results, for example, up to 7 hours of work. But at the same time, the brightness of the screen should definitely not be with the maximum value, as well as loading the device with heavy processes.
I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that the laptop model has received a rather high screen resolution value. Therefore, the battery life from a single charge is not the highest.
But what I really liked is the full charge time, which took me about 1.5 hours of time. And all thanks to the presence of a 100W power adapter out of the box.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
The updated version of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 laptop received really very attractive features that were lacking in past generations. But I can’t call the new device ideal, but let’s first share some positive emotions with you.
Definitely, the first feature that really hooked me is the quality of the screen used. I had no idea that the 15.6-inch OLED screen would be so high-quality for vivid colors and deep blacks. I also liked the high resolution 3.5K screen.
Okay, apart from the screen, I liked the performance thanks to the new processor and graphics chipset. The laptop also stands out for its good build quality and materials used. And the work of the keyboard and touchpad gives me only positive emotions.
Okay, what is negative about the new laptop model then? The first is, of course, overheating of the processor itself, which lacks a cooling system during heavy tasks and demanding games. I can also highlight the rather weak quality of the webcam. And, of course, I missed the USB-A port and memory card slot on the thin laptop case.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Already now you can easily order and buy the updated model of the 2021 laptop Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro at a good price for only $1059.99 with a 20% discount for the basic configuration.
The price tag relative to the previous generation has hardly changed, but the number of interesting features has become many times greater. Definitely, I can easily recommend this device for purchase.
