Xiaomi has just recently introduced a new model of wireless earbuds called Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro. Now I already have this model in my hands and I have something to tell you.
In this review, you will learn about the main features, build quality and materials, and most importantly, how the earbuds sound. In addition, I will talk about the main advantages, but also the disadvantages that I noticed during the short time of my use.
If we talk about the price, then at present the cost of the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro is quite high and it is impossible to call the earbuds budgetary. You can now purchase the new TWS earbuds from Xiaomi for $120.
The question immediately arises as to why the price of earbuds is so high. Let’s understand, the first is the presence of the ANC active noise canceling function. Also, the earbuds received a completely new design, support for the transparent mode, and good battery life.
Therefore, I suggest starting a detailed review of the earbuds to see if they are worth every penny or not.

Unboxing and packaging
The new model of wireless earbuds comes in a rather large and premium black box. On the front, there is a drawing of the earbuds with the Mi logo.
Inside the box, I found a charging box with earbuds inside, instructions, a Type-C charging cable, and also five different ear tips.
Although the equipment is not very rich, it has everything you need for comfortable listening to music. I also liked the quality of the ear tips, here it is at a high level. In addition, the presence of a Type-C cable is good news for me.
Okay, I figured out the package, now let’s check the build quality and what materials are used in the manufacture.
Design, build quality and materials
The Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro is a brand new TWS earbud model that is unlike any previous model. Yes, these earbuds are made in the shape of Apple AirPods, but they have a completely different look and shape.
For example, I really liked the oval shape of the earbuds, which received a glossy shiny ceramic coating on the outside. Although the rest of the case is made of matte plastic, it is this gloss that gives a certain charm to the earbuds.
The build quality for earbuds with a price tag of around $ 120 is fairly typical, as is the case with more budget models. That is, I cannot say that the build and materials are bad. No, but they are the same for the $ 40 earbud.
Now in terms of convenience, the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro was comfortable for my ears, but not for a long time of use. For example, after one or even two hours of wearing, my ears did not experience any discomfort. But for more than 2 hours, my ears began to swell and hurt.
This is not strange, since the earbuds have ear tips, so the ears will start to flow faster than the semi-in-ear earbuds. But the big plus of ear tips for me is good sound insulation and richer sound.
You can use earbuds in sports, but during a workout in the gym. But for running, it is better to choose a slightly different model. As the earbuds may accidentally slip out of the ear canal.
The front of the earbuds has a touch-sensitive earbud control panel and an LED indicator. I can also note that three microphones are used in the earbud case. Where one is needed for feedback, another for frontal feedback, and the last one for phone calls. But I’ll talk about the quality of the microphone a little later. At the bottom of the leg, you can find two charging contacts.
As for the charging box, it is made entirely of matte plastic and has a small size. The case weighs about 60 grams and fits easily into a jeans pocket.
The lid of the charging box opens with virtually no backlash and has a magnetic connection. On the front, there is an LED indicator of the charge level, and on the back there is a platform for wireless charging.
A port with a Type-C connector is located at the bottom of the case, and a physical button for pairing earbuds is installed on the right end.
After several days of testing, the housing of the earbuds and the box remained without any scratches or scuffs. Also, the build quality and materials pleased me, now let’s take a look at the signal quality and control functions.
Connection, latency, and control
Despite the fact that the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro earbuds have the same price as the flagship models, but the wireless connection remains the same. This is Bluetooth version 5.0.
During my testing, the earbud model did not lose its connection with the mobile device and the signal quality was always high. Note that the earbuds only have SBC audio codec and here I did not find aptX and AAC.
If you have a smartphone from Xiaomi, then you will be able to see a pop-up window when pairing. The window will display the charge level of the box and earbuds. But if you have a smartphone, not from the Xiaomi brand, then there will be no pop-up window, but there will be the possibility of quick pairing.
I would also like to tell you about the modes of use. There are three of them here – this is usual, the environment sounds mode and the active noise canceling mode. If we talk about latency, then they are very minimal and I was very comfortable playing shooters.
The earbuds are controlled through a ceramic coating on the front. I really liked the responsiveness and accuracy of the work. In terms of functionality, it has all the necessary functions, including volume control, switching tracks, and selecting different modes.
Sound and microphone quality
Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro wireless earbuds received a 12 mm dynamic driver with a liquid crystal composite diaphragm LCP. Thanks to this combination, the sound quality is at a very high level.
With the right size of ear tips, you can get an incredible experience of dynamic and clear sound.
The low frequencies showed themselves on the positive side, but I do not want to say that the earbuds have strong and massive bass. Yes, it is present, but in moderation. Also, the bass does not overlap the mid and high frequencies.
If we talk about the active noise cancellation mode, then the earbuds remove noise up to 35 dB. That is, in noisy places, such as public transport and others, external noises will not disturb you while listening to your favorite music. But I cannot say that the quality of ANC’s work is at a high level. Compared to flagship models, for example, from Apple or Sony earbuds, then Xiaomi still needs to grow a little.
Another but positive feature is the transparent mode. It is necessary for a large city so that you can easily hear the surrounding sounds. In the Mi Air 2 Pro earbud model, this function works pretty well. But note that the sound quality drops slightly when using this mode.
As I already mentioned, there are three microphones installed in each earbud and each of them performs its own function. In terms of call conversations, I had no problems. My interlocutors heard me clearly and accurately, even in noisy places.
Battery and run time
Another positive point for the Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro is the battery life. The manufacturer claims 7 hours of battery life. As my practice has shown, this is a realistic result and I could listen to about 7 hours of music at a 70% volume level.
But with ANC mode turned on, the battery life became about 4 hours and 20 minutes. In general, the total battery life using the charging box was up to 28 hours.
In addition, the charging box supports fast charging. For 10 minutes of charging the earbuds, you can listen to music for up to 1.5 hours. The full charging time will take about 1.5 hours and the charging box also received a contactless charging method.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro is an unusual wireless earbud from the Chinese tycoon. They have a good mix of quality materials and workmanship, especially the ceramic touch control panel.
As for the main active noise canceling function, it does not work as perfectly as in the flagship earbuds. But given its cost, this is a nice feature for new earbuds in 2020.
But more I liked the work of the transparent mode, it seemed to me well-tuned and works at a good level.
If you have a Xiaomi phone, the connection method is very exciting with a pop-up window. In addition, the sound quality and microphone are at a very decent level. The same can be said about the battery life and the availability of fast charging.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy the new Xiaomi Mi Air 2 Pro with ANC mode for $ 119.99 with a 20% discount.
Knowing that Xiaomi always offers only quality products, I am happy to recommend the flagship TWS active noise-canceling earbuds.
