A large and modern Wi-Fi router for both home and public places will be a necessary thing for any user. Today I have a very interesting device called Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 for testing.
This is the last generation of a Wi-Fi 6 router, and earlier I talked about a slightly simplified version of Xiaomi Mi Router AX1800 and you can find out more about it at the link here.
If you were planning to buy a professional and powerful router, then the new AIoT Router AX3600 model will be what you have been looking for for a long time. But do not forget about the cost, which is almost two times higher than the Mi Router AX1800 model.
Now the price of the AX3600 is from $100 and for this price you get a wide list of various functions and features.
The new device from Xiaomi is considered the flagship in the category of routers, which runs on a quad-core processor from Qualcomm and a dual-core network accelerator. It is also worth noting that the device has two ranges – it is 2.4 and 5 GHz and works according to the standard a/b/g/n/ac/ax.
Before telling the real performance of the new flagship router, I would like to share the impression of what it comes in the box and about the appearance of the device.
Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600: Specifications

|Dual band||2.4GHz, 5GHz|
|Antenna:||6xExternal high gain antennas + 1xAloT Antenna|

The device comes in a rather large package, where on the front you can see the picture of the router, the name of the model with the main features.
Inside the box, I found the router itself, there is also a 24W power adapter and an Ethernet cable and instructions for use.
One minus is the Chinese version of the device, so all the labels and instructions are only in Chinese.
As you might have guessed, the router itself has a rather impressive size and it will be easy to notice in any interior of your apartment, home, or office.
The case is made of matte black plastic, also on the side and bottom faces there are special ventilation holes for better cooling.
On the front of the Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600, there are two indicators – this is the status of the device and the network. There is also a stamped model name and brand logo.
The reverse side of the router has 1 GIG WAN port and an additional three LAN ports. Nearby are a power connector and an additional button to reset to factory settings.
At the bottom of the case, there are four anti-skid legs and a grill with holes for effective cooling.
It is worth noting that the router practically does not heat up during operation, and through the holes, you can observe the release of warm air.
Seven non-removable antennas with a six-channel signal amplifier are located on the case. Two antennas operate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, and the remaining antennas with a frequency of 5 GHz.
The central antenna is called AIoT, it has a built-in LED that glows blue. This antenna is designed to automatically detect various smart home devices from Xiaomi and connect them with one touch.
The latter function is quite convenient, so now you do not need to enter a password from the router, as the device will automatically transmit all the necessary data for pairing with Xiaomi devices.
As for the appearance of the new router, I liked the quality assembly and the materials used. The disadvantages I can include are the lack of an additional USB connection and a rather bulky size.
The main feature of the new Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 router is support for Wi-Fi 6 and a set of modern technologies such as OFDMA and MU-MIMO. Therefore, data transfer is carried out by several streams for any users simultaneously.
Inside the case, a quad-core Qualcomm chipset IPQ8071A with a clock frequency of 1 GHz is installed. In addition, there is a dual-core network accelerator NPU with a frequency of 1.7 GHz. As for the amount of memory, everything is not bad here. The device has 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal memory.
Thanks to its powerful performance, the maximum speed is reached up to 2976 Mb/s. Also, the router is able to distribute the Internet simultaneously to 256 different devices.
OFDMA technology helps you send multiple data streams with one common data array.
At the first connection, many users will encounter a strong problem, since the Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 router is designed for the Chinese market. All device settings will also be in Chinese.
But worrying before temporarily makes no sense, to configure the router I can recommend using Google Chrome, which will automatically translate Chinese into English or any other.
The first thing to do is to configure the network at 2.4 and 5 GHz. In the settings menu of the router, you can set the automatic determination of the best signal depending on your provider or set all the settings manually.
A new feature I can note is the presence of a third-generation security protocol. Also, after the update, the router began to support a bandwidth of 160 MHz.
The general settings of the router can be found in the following network settings – these are static and dynamic IP and connection via PPPoE.
Advanced settings offer the following features – these are organic network speeds, DDNS server, port forwarding, VPN server, and others.
The most interesting section that I want to talk about is testing the router in real life. Whether the new Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 router will be so good, as the manufacturer claims, let’s check.
If you look at the test picture below, you can notice that the signal level and speed, regardless of distance and the number of walls, are quite positive.
For example, the speed of the router was about 144 Mbps near the router itself, and at the farthest point of the house was about 130 Mbps. As you can see, the deviation is small and the signal is quite stable.
My provider cannot provide a stable 1 Gig Internet connection and the maximum speed test gains about 405 Mbps at a frequency of 5 GHz.
Conclusion and Reviews
Undoubtedly, the new flagship router Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 has great potential compared to its competitors and predecessors.
As practice has shown, the AX3600 router has a stable signal at a frequency of 2.4 GHz with the good network coverage. Also, the maximum speed at 5 GHz is pretty good, as for its price.
In addition, the device was not without drawbacks. For example, I can relate to them – this is the lack of multimedia streaming or the so-called DLNA service, also there is no support for IPTV.
For a large coverage area, I would recommend using a Mesh system from multiple devices. But if you have a small apartment or office space, then one Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 router will be enough.
Price and Where to buy cheaper?
At present, it is not difficult to find trusted sellers from China with good prices for devices, and here is one of them. For example, the cost of the new Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 starts at $102.86 with a 16% discount.
Thanks to good hardware, I can definitely recommend a router for purchase, which shows a good signal both at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
