XGIMI has unveiled another premium projector called XGIMI Horizon.
You may have already read my past reviews of XGIMI projectors. If not, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with this link here. In this article, I want to fully test the new DLP projector model. In addition to the appearance and build quality, in this review I will also talk about the quality of the projected image and its sound quality.
As for the cost, at present the price tag for the device is not the smallest. For example, the price of the XGIMI Horizon projector was nearly $1100. In addition, there is also a Pro version, which will cost you $1700. The manufacturer also talks about various coupons and discounts, so projectors can be taken for $50 or $100 cheaper.
If we talk about technical features, then the new model of the XGIMI Horizon projector received a native resolution of 1080p, while the Pro version will already have 4K native resolution. Other parameters between Horizon and Horizon Pro are completely identical.
I can also highlight this high brightness value, which was in the 2200 ansi lumens range. The maximum screen size was up to 300 inches. In addition, a stock Android TV with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory was installed in the projector.
Also, I cannot pass by the high-quality sound from Harman Kardon with two speakers and a power of 8 watts each. In addition, the device has many other features and I can’t wait to tell you about them. So let me start my detailed inspection of the new DLP projector model from XGIMI.

Unboxing and packaging
The appearance of the packaging has remained in the same minimalistic form as other device models from XGIMI. This is a square box made of white and thick cardboard. On the front of the package, there was a drawing with the designation of the brand name and model.
Meanwhile, inside the package, I found the projector itself and it was well protected by foam on all sides and edges. Therefore, there should be no delivery problems during transportation. In addition to the projector itself, I found a power cable with a European plug, a whole book on how to use it, a 218.5W power supply and a remote control.
Naturally, given its high price of over $1000, I would also like to see a tripod or tripod for a projector here. Also, I would not mind getting a portable transport bag. But unfortunately, these items are not included in the package.
Design, build quality and materials
If we talk about the appearance, then the manufacturer XGIMI decided not to bother too much with the design. Since the appearance of the new XGIMI Horizon model is completely identical to the XGIMI H3. You can compare the two pictures below and you will not find any difference between these projector models.
But if you compare the appearance of XGIMI Horizon with a more advanced version of XGIMI Horizon Pro, then the difference will be only in color. If the standard version is made in light gray, then the Pro version will have a dark gray color in its performance.
At the same time, the dimensions and weight of both models in the Horizon line will have completely similar parameters. For example, the dimensions of the XGIMI Horizon device were 208 x 218 x 136 mm, and the weight was about 2.9 kg. I can’t name the device compact, but you can easily transport the projector from room to room without any problems.
But, if you just need a high-quality compact projector, then you can make your choice on the XGIMI Halo model. For a full review of this projector, I’ll leave a link here.
In terms of design features, I had no particular complaints about the build quality at all. All components were well connected to each other and had no extraneous sounds and squeaks. I think it will come as no surprise to you that the body of the device was made of high quality matte plastic. During my testing, I did not find fingerprints or other troubles on the projector body.
On the front of the XGIMI Horizon projector, there is an LED lens made of transparent glass and without any darkening. Also on the same edge, you can find a camera for automatic focusing of the projection image.
The right and left sides of the device received an inscription sound from Harman Kardon, and below in the picture you can see the location of the speakers under the body of the device. In addition, I can highlight that the entire case had small holes and this had a positive effect on the cooling system.
That being said, I can highlight that the sound quality in the new XGIMI projector was very good. There was a spacious and dynamic sound here, which was not only pleasant to listen to during movies, but also to listen to music.
On the back of the XGIMI projector, there were holes through which hot air exited. Therefore, it is impossible to close or install the device close to the wall, since not only the LED lens, but also the matrix itself, will overheat.
In addition, a large number of useful connections are located on the same edge, and let’s go through each one. For example, here you can find a DC port for power, optical audio output, two USB ports, two HDMI ports, a LAN connection and a headphone output. Each of the above connections worked properly and I had no particular complaints.
Elementary touch controls were installed on the top of the XGIMI Horizon projector. For example, you will be able to control the volume level, play or stop, and turn on or off the device. But in the central part, there is a branded XGIMI logo.
The bottom of the Horizon projector has four rubber feet against vibration and slipping. Here you can also find a hole for a tripod or tripod with information on technical features.
Okay, now I want to focus on the remote control. It was also made of matte plastic and in a combination of two colors it is in black and gray. From the control buttons I can highlight this power button, voice control, down, up, left, right, okay, backward, main menu and volume control. In general, the number of functions is very modest, but all buttons, including voice control, worked very well.
In addition, the remote control is powered by two AAA batteries, but I did not find them in the kit. Also, I did not find any problems with the use of the remote control, since all the commands were executed accurately and flawlessly.
Projection image performance and quality
I did not find any information about the processor model that was installed on the XGIMI Horizon projector. But it uses 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. In addition, the device is controlled thanks to the official version of the Android TV 10.0 operating system.
The user interface looks like most devices with the global Android TV operating system. In addition, I found a large number of useful installed applications here. For example, this is the Google Play Store, through which you can install many useful and different applications. There are also applications such as YouTube, Netflix, players and much more.
If you go through the settings, then the first section clears the cache from applications, then there is the adjustment of the keystone image, scaling of the projection screen, image mode, sound settings, setting 3D video and general settings. In the last section, you can set up a Wi-Fi connection, log in to your Google account, applications, projector settings, device settings, remote control and other accessories.
If you go to the projector settings, then here you can see the settings for adjusting the brightness of the projection image. For example, you can set automatic or manual brightness control from 1 to 10. The higher the value, the more brightness will be.
Also, the higher the screen brightness, the more power consumption will be. That is, when you select brightness 10, the consumption will be about 140 W, and with the minimum brightness value it will be about 45 W. In addition, the noise will depend on the brightness level of the screen, with a high value of the brightness level, the cooling will be louder than with a low brightness value.
For example, the average noise value near the projector was about 52 dB, and at a distance of 1 meter, the noise was about 40 dB. This is not so much, and while watching films, I practically did not hear the noise emitted from the projector.
Now I propose to talk about the quality of the projection image. The first thing I want to do is run some YouTube videos and test how the device is doing during real use. To do this, I found a 4K video with 60 frames per second and the device started the video without any problems. Also, I did not find any freezes or other troubles, that is, the video played smoothly and smoothly.
As for the projection image, I had no complaints at all about the colors being rendered. Each color looked very rich and vivid, there were no particular problems with image transfer. You yourself can see from the picture below that the colors were reproduced correctly and did not have a distorted picture.
In terms of contrast level, I also liked the contrast value. That is, the black color was quite deep and I did not find a gray tint here.
As I said, the maximum brightness value was 2200 ansi lumens. This is a lot, as for a modern device. Therefore, you can watch video clips not only at night, but also during the day. The picture was really rich and bright. Examples of images with the lights on and off can be seen from the album below.
Naturally, I also did not find any problems with focus on the XGIMI Horizon projector. The picture was clear everywhere, and I could easily read text or look at other objects in the video.
But if you compare a device with 4K resolution, then here you can find the difference in image pixelation. For example, my device was 1080p native and on close inspection, you can see individual pixels. In the case of 4K resolution, these pixels will not be visible.
In the settings of the projector, you can select the game mode and then the delay of the transmitted image will be about 18 ms. It is very fast and in games this feature will be very useful. In addition, the device supports image transmission at 60 frames per second. Therefore, you can play games on a large and bright screen without any problems. Note that the latency during other modes was about 50-60 ms.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After fully testing the premium DLP segment of the XGIMI Horizon projector, I can confidently say that the device is worth your attention.
On the positive side, I can single out this high-quality assembly with appropriate manufacturing materials. Also, the device proved to be worthy from a practical point of view. That is, the color rendition was at a high level, as well as the value of brightness and detail.
Therefore, you can use the device without any problems, both at night and during the day. But I advise you to get a special reflective screen, in which the projection image will look even better. In addition, the price tag for such a screen is not very high and it can be ordered around $20 depending on the size.
In general, I cannot single out any strong shortcomings, although there is one, but it concerns more software. This is why I never got to launch Netflix. I think that with future updates this problem will be resolved.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can purchase the XGIMI Horizon projector at not the lowest price. For example, the cost per device was $1,049 using a coupon.
Therefore, if your budget allows you, then I can truly recommend this projector model for purchase. There is also a more advanced version and already in 4K native resolution, but its price tag will already be higher and will be $1599.
