UMIDIGI Z2 Pro: Design and Appearance
If you take the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro out of its optically successful packaging for the first time, you do not have the feeling of holding a smartphone of a rather unknown Chinese brand in your hand.
With its thoroughly glass-made housing and rounded edges on the back, it is valuable and comfortable in the hand, although the back is a bit slippery due to the material.
For this, however, a shell is supplied directly, the optical and haptic dominates all standard cases.
Made of black silicone, the shell has a rough, sandstone-like feel, giving it incredibly good grip.
Also optically makes this fact by a twilight-held, very discreet pattern a lot and spice up the design of the smartphone noticeably on.
This is in fact very unspectacular. On the back there are known from the vertical of the dual camera with the fingerprint sensor can otherwise be mentioned as the only conspicuous feature.
Apart from that, the Umidigi Z2 Pro looks pretty plain, but the font on the back and the lower edge of the display could have been a bit smaller despite the 19: 9 display.
The Umidigi Z2 Pro is also convincing in terms of processing and is on a par with smartphones from well-known Western manufacturers.
It should be noted as a maximum that the silicone case has due to their material after some time first signs of wear and the rough surface decreases more and more. Unfortunately, after one year, the effect is almost gone.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Display
Umidigi also goes with the trend, of course, and equips its current flagship smartphone with a display in 19: 9 format with the notch.
With a diagonal of 6.2 inches it is about as wide as the usual 5.5-inch models, but of course a bit higher.
After all, the display edges are kept relatively compact, with a successor model is down and left and right but definitely still some savings.
But let’s come to the quality of the installed IPS panel from Sharp. At 2246 x 1080 pixels, it resolves sufficiently high in size, keeping the contents sharp.
Brightness is good, but not great, and there is a slight yellow tinge. However, this is especially noticeable in comparison with other devices and does not bother us in everyday life.
Like many smartphones with a MediaTek chipset, the Umidigi S2 Pro has the Miravision settings, which allow you to customize many of the display’s features.
Unfortunately, I was not able to counteract the yellowish tint, but functions like an additional blue light filter and options for color intensity are still welcome.
Ultimately, the display of the Umidigi Z2 Pro in the test is, therefore, the only average, in everyday life but definitely to use. Next time no more yellowing, then I would be completely satisfied.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Hardware and Performance
A new mid-range MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC and 6GB of RAM promise strong performance on the Umidigi Z2 Pro datasheet.
In practice, the smartphone can meet these expectations only partially, which seems to be mainly due to the user in numerous places and later again more precisely illuminated software. This slows down the device unfortunately occasionally, which is a pity.
Apart from these situations, the Umidigi Z2 Pro is quite quick and easy to use. In everyday life, the performance is more than adequate and the price range accordingly.
Occasionally, however, one or the other stuttering occurs, which differentiates the smartphone from even more expensive devices.
Blame on the not quite as great performance seems to be the not so successful software adaptation – enough power reserves should eventually provide an Helio P60 and 6 GB of RAM.
In gaming, the Umidigi Z2 Pro in the analisis also shows its price accordingly. All tried and tested games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 ran smoothly on the device without any problems and were also played back with high graphics settings. That enough power is available, is definitely here clear.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Software
Pre-installed on the Umidigi Z2 Pro in the review still Android 8.1 Oreo.
This is a clean and good system, which is built on an almost pure Android. Here we do not see any Chinese applications. All work smoothly.
In the settings menu, you can find many useful functions such as virtual movement and gestures.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Camera
Umidigi uses the Umidigi Z2 Pro with a resolution of 16 megapixels Samsung sensor, which is also in many other mid-range smartphones.
In the test, I was able to produce in my opinion, handsome photos, but lag behind the level of similar expensive equipment from Europe.
While the color reproduction and dynamic range of the Umidigi Z2 Pro in our test are relatively good, the sharpness leaves much to be desired. In darker situations, a noticeable noise soon joins in.
The allegedly produced by the dual camera bokeh effect turned out in the test also as a flop, because of Umidigi like many other Chinese manufacturers here, unfortunately, set to a fake solution.
Instead of recognizing the edges of objects, the algorithm around the focused spot simply blurs everything without paying attention to the spacing of the pixels.
That this is usually not useful, you can see the last two pairs of pictures (normal + Bokeh mode) of the above-included test photos.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Battery
The Umidigi Z2 Pro definitely convinces with it’s not the powerful battery, which has a capacity of 3550 mAh.
One day of running time are there even in heavy use, personally, I reached towards the evening of the first day usually a charge of 80 percent.
In the test, it brought the smartphone to a screen-on-time of up to 6 hours, which is absolutely good as for this battery!
Thanks to the supported fast-charge technology, it then takes only a relatively short time until the Umidigi Z2 Pro is fully charged again.
If you charge it with the supplied fast-charging power supply, it will be filled up from 0 to 100 percent within approx. 1:40 hours.
Also, here are you can see 15W world’s fastest wireless charge and its really good.
Umidigi Z2 Pro: Conclusions and Reviews
The Umidigi Z2 Pro in our review convinced in the test with a good hardware, in which above all the strong battery life and the really large memory could stand out.
Display and performance are definitely okay, but not really better than devices that can be purchased directly in Europe.
In addition to the not so good camera with insufficient bokeh mode then even the software was very negative and caused one or the other despair.
The new processor MediaTek Helio P60 has shown itself on the good side and it is a direct competitor to Snapdragon 660.
The disadvantages are a weak battery, which is less than the standard version of Umidigi Z2.
In general, this is a beautiful smartphone with an interesting taste and design.
