Umidigi F2 Review: Budget Mid-Range Phone on Android 10

The Chinese company Umidigi in the mobile market offers a good selection of smartphones. Last year I tested the smartphones of the F line, namely the Umidigi F1 and F1 Play models. If you are interested in knowing my opinion about these smartphones, you can read the reviews here. The other day, the manufacturer introduced an updated version called Umidigi F2.

In order to keep up with the global trend, the Umidigi F2 model looks like a real flagship. For example, the device has a hole-punch for the front camera, like the Xiaomi Mi 10, four main camera sensors and a battery with a capacity of 5150 mAh.

In addition, the manufacturer Umidigi offers the newest software – Android 10. Indeed, given the price tag of Umidigi F2 up to $ 200, now you will not find a budget mid-range smartphone with the latest software version.

Umidigi F2: Design

The new generation Umidigi F2 comes in a typical box and has the same package as its older brothers F1 and F1 Play. Here you can highlight the presence of fast charging at 18 watts and a protective black case.

The appearance of the new generation of Umidigi turned out like a real flagship. For example, the case is made of protected glass, both on the front and on the rear panel.

The device cannot be called small since the F2 model received a 6.53-inch IPS screen with a resolution of Full HD + or 2340 x 1080 pixels. The aspect ratio is 19.5: 9, and the pixel density was about 394 ppi.

The color rendering quality is high, viewing angles are large and in general, I have no comments on the screen, given my price tag up to $ 200.

The frames around the screen are very small, but the chin at the bottom is slightly larger than the side frames. As I mentioned, the smartphone received a hole punch for a selfie camera. Of course, it is not as small as on the flagship models, but it looks very cool.

The rear panel in the upper left corner received four camera sensors and an LED flash.

As you can see, there is no fingerprint scanner on the back of the smartphone. Also, it was not located under the screen but got its purpose from the right side of the device instead of the power key. It works fast enough, but sometimes it doesn’t work exactly.

Near the fingerprint scanner, a volume rocker was installed a little higher.

From the opposite end, there is a full-fledged slot for dual nano-SIM cards and a memory card up to 256 GB. A convenient solution, and for this, I thank the manufacturer Umidigi.

At the bottom, you can find a speaker, microphone, Type-C port for charging and a 3.5 mm audio jack. If the flagship devices get rid of the audio jack, then budget smartphones are in no hurry to do this.

In terms of size, the Umidigi F2 received 162.6 x 77.7 x 8.7 mm, and a weight of 207 grams. No matter how you twist with one hand, it will be problematic to use. Although the phone is wonderful in my hand, thanks to the 2.5D rounded glass.

The design of the budget mid-range smartphone is very premium. It stands out from the middle-class crowd when compared to Redmi Note 8 or Note 8T. In addition to a stylish appearance, the smartphone has a quality build and premium materials to use.

Umidigi F2: Performance and Software

The Umidigi brand has always cooperated with MediaTek and it is impossible to see the Snapdragon chipset in its smartphones. Therefore, a new generation of Umidigi F2 received an Helio P70 processor from MediaTek.

It can compete in performance with the Snapdragon 710 processor, which is pretty good.

At its core are eight cores, where four are a Cortex-A73 with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz and the other four Cortex-A53 with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz.

ARM Mali G72 MP3 graphics processor with a clock frequency of 900 MHz takes responsibility for the games. During testing of Umidigi F2, I had no problems launching and playing even heavy games. PUBG Mobile play without any difficulties, but on the average graphics settings.

If you look at the benchmark results, then in Antutu the smartphone received about 192 thousand points. A good result and even for 2020 it will be relevant.

As I already noted, the Umidigi F2 smartphone was equipped with the new Android 10 software. If you want the latest software, but you can’t afford the flagship device, then Umidigi will be your salvation.

I can not name the company Umidigi, which does not update their devices. Even during my acquaintance with the F2 model, I received a number of updates over the air.

The user interface is clean and I didn’t find any extraneous applications. While using the smartphone, I had no problems with freezes or other troubles. The interface works very quickly and smoothly, as it should be for the middle-class device.

In addition, it is worth noting that the smartphone has global firmware, so I had no problems with communication. Also available is a dual-band Wi-Fi module with support for 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. Important for the modern user, the smartphone has contactless payment via the NFC module.

Umidigi F2: Camera

The main camera of the Umidigi F2 was equipped with a 48-megapixel Samsung GM1 module with an f/1.79 aperture. The optical stabilization is present, but the maximum video resolution is only Full HD with 30 frames per second.

The second module received a 13-megapixel resolution with f/2.2 aperture. It serves for ultra-wide shots with a viewing angle of 120 degrees. You can see the quality below, but how good the quality is for its price.

The third and fourth sensors have a resolution of 5 megapixels for bokeh and macro photography. The last mode must be photographed at a distance of 2 centimeters.

All four modules are real and they really work, below I will leave an album with examples of photos.

But the front camera was a bit disappointing. The selfie camera received a 32-megapixel module, but the quality of photos in the dark is very noisy. The manufacturer promises to fix the problem in optimization in the near future with the arrival of a new update.

Umidigi F2: Battery

Every Umidigi smartphone has a good capacitive battery. The Umidigi F2, which received a 5150 mAh battery, did not pass by. Two full days with an average use of the smartphone will be able to work 100%.

Umidigi F2 Review: Budget Mid-Range Phone on Android 10

When watching video videos at maximum brightness on YouTube, the smartphone is discharged by 11%. If you play light games, the discharge will be about 16% per hour.

The charging time through the Type-C port and a power adapter with an output of 18W will be approximately 2.5 hours. Naturally, there is no wireless charging, and there is no point in expecting from its price range.

Umidigi F2: Conclusion and Reviews

If you want to get the latest software on Android 10 with good performance, the main camera, and autonomy, then the Umidigi F2 model will be to your liking.

Umidigi F2 Review: Budget Mid-Range Phone on Android 10

The disadvantages I can include – this front camera is not fully optimized and video recording only Full HD resolution.

In other aspects, such as the quality of the screen, assembly and materials used are not disgusting. This is a modern smartphone that looks no worse than the flagships from Xiaomi and Samsung, only here the price is several times less.

Umidigi F2: Price and where to buy cheaper?

Now you can buy a new Umidigi F2 smartphone at a bargain price of about $199.99 with a 33% discount.

Given its low price and technical characteristics, it is difficult to find a similar combination with other brands.
