Ulefone Armor X2: Unboxing and Packaging
The box is made in yellow-black colors and its pattern does not ambiguously hint that this smartphone is designed for people engaged in active tourism.
In addition to the warranty card and instructions, you can also find a screwdriver, micro USB cable, a power supply (5V/2A).
A protective film has already been attached to the smartphone display.
Ulefone Armor X2: Design and Appearance
Each time we make a comparison with the Armor 2, which sometimes turned out to be only thinner than some smartphones. In this case, the diagonal of the display in it is only 5.5 inches.
Ulefone Armor X2 in our analisis is a large and impressive smartphone that is a very interesting object in terms of design. For the weapon also come down.
It consists of plastic, rubber, and metal. In addition to the abundance of screws, waterproof glue holds this entire structure (not used everywhere).
Under IP68 protection, the manufacturer understands being underwater at a depth of up to 1.5 meters for no more than an hour or being at a depth of up to one meter for no more than 24 hours. So, it can be supported the use of the camera underwater.
At the top of the front panel is the front camera, speaker, light and proximity sensors, as well as an event indicator. The indicator may light green, red or blue.
Below the display is a single touch button. The fingerprint sensor works terribly on the right side. Often you have to see a message stating that the number of unlock attempts using a fingerprint is exceeded, and you are prompted to enter a PIN code.
In the case of finger recognition, Ulefone Armor X2 needs at least a second to unlock the device. About 0.1 seconds specified on the official site, there is no question.
Glass Gorilla Glass 3 is completely flat, fractions of millimeters recessed into the body. Also on the front of the microphone can be found.
The reverse side is interesting, first of all, in terms of the design and materials used. At the top, you can see the camera.
It is protected by glass and slightly recessed into the metal edging. The orange elements are pure plastic. Black is something of very dense rubber.
Also, on the right side, there are Dual nano SIM/microSD and PTT button. It would be convenient if the power button and PTT were swapped. PTT is responsible for a very specific, and it seemed to me a little useful application. Often, instead of the power button, I pressed it.
On its sides, the metal has a very interesting pattern (structure), resembling very fine sandpaper. Also on the reverse side, there is a second microphone.
On the left side are volume and power buttons.
The top side of Armor X2 is 3.5mm audio jack protected by a plug.
On the bottom, there is a strongly recessed connector in the micro USB port, also protected by a plug.
In general, this is to some extent a nice smartphone. It is made in a classic design for such devices. The buttons are quite large and have a tangible move. Even in thick gloves, they can be convenient to use.
The device is monolithic and not subject to any bends. Creaking there is also nothing. Black material can be well absorbed when dropped from a height onto a hard surface. That is why it is mainly focused on the corners.
If you need a durable smartphone, then this is definitely a good option. The disadvantage is not the good location of the small-use PTT button and the fake slot for the second speaker.
It seems to me that in a smartphone, which, first of all, is protected, there should be a few different openings as possible, and certainly, there are no false connectors.
Ulefone Armor X2 can operate at temperatures from -40 to +80 degrees Celsius (information taken from the official site).
Ulefone Armor X2: Display
Ulefone Armor X2 received a 5.5 inch HD Plus IPS matrix. The color and contrast are not the best.
There is automatic brightness control. You can also note the minimum brightness of the display – it is not sufficient. In the dark, the smartphone is not very comfortable to use.
There are present settings MiraVision. This is quite a powerful utility that allows you to adjust the contrast, saturation, brightness, sharpness and color temperature of the image.
You can also enable or disable Dynamic Contrast. It is possible to include protection from blue radiation. The intensity of “protection” can be adjusted. This saves a little when working in the dark.
Despite the fact that there is a separate button to release the camera shutter, to activate the camera not through a shortcut on the screen, double-click on the “Power” button.
Since there is a clean Android 8.1, the settings are quite small. Although the screen does not cause delight, it has good maximum brightness and excellent picture clarity thanks to HD Plus resolution.
MiraVision will allow you to customize the display of images for themselves. The mediocre color rendering and the not so minimal “minimum brightness” frustrate.
Ulefone Armor X2: Hardware and Performance
The processor is a MediaTek MT6580. It received 4 Cortex-A7 cores with a maximum frequency of up to 1.3 GHz. The graphics chip Mali-400 MP2 which works with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
In general, for a price of $100 these are good specs of Ulefone Armor X2 since the phone was made for other purposes, and not for great performance.
AnTuTu Benchmark scores more than 40,000 points. In fact, in the game PUBG mobile at low graphics settings, we have an average of 15 fps, with occasional drops to 10 fps.
In Real Racing 3 at high low settings, the picture goes smoothly, without dropping fps.
The smartphone is not gaming, so the games at the maximum graphics settings will not go. In the menu, it works quite quickly, without animations and delays.
The MediaTek MT6580 and 2GB of RAM are a fairly popular solution for low-range smartphones. This is a fairly productive chip, comparable to Snapdragon 425. There should be no problems in the work.
The built-in memory of 16GB, of which a little more than 12 GB is available. But considering the presence of a separate slot for a microSD card, the total memory capacity of the smartphone can reach 256GB.
Ulefone Armor X2: Software
As mentioned above, we have a clean Android 8.1 Oreo with its pluses and minuses.
The PTT button of Ulefone Armor X2 in the analisis is responsible for calling the Zello application. You can not delete it. You cannot reassign the button function. While in the app, when you press a button, you can communicate with other users using voice messages.
This is Internet radio. That is, somewhere in the mountains where there is no mobile network, it is useless.
A separate camera button still activates the camera. Just for this, you need to keep it pressed for 5 seconds, and the smartphone itself should not be blocked while in the camera application. Well, at least so.
Perhaps, somewhere in the mountains and in gloves it will even be a plus. But nevertheless, by double pressing the Power button, it looks faster and works more stable.
There is a separate OutDoor Toolbox application with a huge number of functions that can really come in handy in some situations.
There is a noise sensor, a fairly accurate compass, a flashlight, a program that helps you hang objects like a picture or calendar, a program to measure the frequency of heartbeats, a program to measure the height of objects (not an unambiguous solution for calculations), three types of alarm activation (or all at once) , pedometer, plumb, Protractor and barometer.
There is an alarm signal in the form of a uniformly flashing flash, sounds or a blinking screen, but for some reason, there is no SOS signal in the form of Morse code for a flash. The barometer showed incorrect results, but it can be calibrated manually.
There are ample opportunities to control your Ulefone Armor X2 when the display is locked. Some characters can be assigned to run any applications. But it works for a long time when performing any functions.
It is possible to record the screen. Pay attention to the curve translation. But at least it works.
In addition to the possibility of activating protection against blue radiation with the help of MiraVision, you can also find a separate menu for this in the settings. There it is proposed to activate other modes. By translation, you can immediately understand that this is not part of the “pure” Android.
There is a mode of reducing the working area for the most comfortable control of the smartphone with one hand. Works without complaints.
The buttons on the taskbar can be swapped and hidden, which in general is a traditional pure Android function.
The DuraSpeed application allows you to optimize the work of the smartphone, and send all its computing capabilities to one application. In this case, the background tasks of other applications will be limited. Separately configured list of applications that will work in the background.
Various functions can be assigned to pressing and holding the touch button. By default, this is back and transition to the main screen.
This is the case when pure Android is good. Everything that was provided separately has a bad translation, English, and sometimes Chinese characters. The Zello radio can be called useless, as it works only on the network, and does not offer anything new with respect to the same Viber.
Ulefone Armor X2: Camera
The camera is a separate song. The dual main camera itself has an 8-megapixel lens with an f/1.8 aperture and interpolation of images up to 13 megapixels and 5-megapixel lens.
The video is shot in Full HD resolution. You can record in MP4 and 3gp format. What if someone else needs 3gp?
The front camera received a 5-megapixel lens with an f/2.0 aperture and interpolation of images up to 8 megapixels. The video is also written in Full HD. There are no improvements or effects.
The quality of the pictures can be described as “come down”. The low definition and a large amount of noise. HDR is better not to use at all.
In fairness, I note that the pictures on the street, even in daylight, were taken with very significant clouds. But hardly in the studio light, this camera will begin to show wonders.
Ulefone Armor X2: Battery
Ulefone Armor X2 in the test has a 5500 mAh battery installed. It seems to be a big number, but it offers anything special.
At 70% brightness in the PCMark test worked for 12.5 hours. With careful operation may be enough for 4-5 days.
As for charging of Armor X2, then it is not fast, so the phone will charge for about 3.0 hours through a micro USB port.
Ulefone Armor X2: Conclusions and Reviews
In our review, I would advise this Ulefone Armor X2 rugged budget smartphone for active tourism.
In general, the phone as for owl money received good performance in terms of daily work, such as calls, messages or social networks. But if you want to play hard games, then this phone is not suitable for this.
Well pleased with the autonomy of work with 5500 mAh batteries which can live for about 5 days without recharging.
The operating system itself and additional features like NFC for wireless payment allow the phone to get positive emotions for its low price with IP68 standard protection.
Ulefone Armor X2: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, it is difficult to find a rugged phone for little money, but not in this case.
Now you can buy a new Ulefone Armor X2 phone for a low price for only $109.99. For this money, this is a good offer that can be bought by state employees, tourists and many others.
