When I hear about Tronsmart’s newest wireless earbuds, it’s always interesting for me to test the earbuds first. This time, a new TWS earbud model called Tronsmart Onyx Free came to my test.
Tronsmart manufacturer promises and guarantees that the new earbuds will have perfect protection from the external environment – this is ultraviolet sterilization and IPX7 standard water protection.
Many of my regular readers should guess that the price of any Tronsmart earbuds is in the budget segment. The Onyx Free model is no exception and the price tag is currently only $34.99 if you use the ONYXFREE coupon.
It is also important to note other features of the new model – the presence of a built-in Qualcomm chip with aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs. Also, each earbud has a 6 mm dynamic driver, 7 hours of operation on the single battery level with support fast charging through a modern Type-C port.
I was very interested in earbuds, so let’s start my review with the appearance and then tell my impression about the sound quality.
Tronsmart Onyx Free: Specifications
|Tronsmart Onyx Free:||Specs|
|Driver unit:||6mm Dynamic|
|Bluetooth protocol:||aptX, AAC and SBC|
Of course, the appearance of Onyx Free is slightly different from the older brothers, but the form and fit are completely identical. Which can not but rejoice, since the earbuds sit perfectly in my ear canal.
I could listen to music, watch movies and even play games, so I don’t think about any discomfort. I can not guarantee that they are ideal for sports, but for everyday use, the earbuds have a good fit.
Tronsmart Onyx Free is made of matte budget plastic and given its low price, I was glad to see that the plastic is not glossy. The build quality is at a good level and when compared with previous models, the build will be slightly better.
The external part of the earbuds has an LED indicator and a physical control button. The button itself has a pretty nice control that adequately and accurately performs all the tasks.
On the inside, there are contacts for charging and the designation of the earbud channel – left or right. The sound guide received a protective mesh from extraneous debris and the length, as well as the angle of the sound guide, sits well in the ear canal of my ear.
As for ultraviolet sterilization, I just did not understand how it works and most likely, Tronsmart decided to apply a marketing move. But the presence of IPX7 water protection cannot but rejoice. You can easily take a shower or swim in the pool, but I often do not recommend this.
The charging box is made of the same plastic as the earbuds – matte black plastic. It fits well in the hand and can easily be put in your jeans pocket.
The lid received a magnetic connection and on the front part, there are four indicators that indicate the charge level of the case. There is a Type-C port on the back of the box.
The build quality of the case itself wants to be better, but considering its initially low cost, I was completely satisfied with the assembly.
Connection and Control
I did not notice any difference in the wireless connection between the new Tronsmart Onyx Free model and the predecessors Onyx Neo and Spunky Beat. Here you can find Bluetooth 5.0 version, and there is also a similar Snapdragon QCC3020 chip with support for aptX codec.
In addition, earbuds can be used both in pairs and individually independently of each other. The signal quality during my use was always stable and the signal did not disappear even though two walls in the apartment.
The Onyx Free TWS earbuds control button has received a wide list of various functions:
- One-touch – play, pause, accept, or hang up.
- Double-tap – adjusts the volume.
- Triple touch – toggles the track forward or backward.
- Hold for 2 seconds – calls the voice assistant function.
Like the wireless connection, I did not find any difference in sound quality between Tronsmart Onyx Free and its previous models. It uses the same 6 mm dynamic driver, which plays quite dynamically and voluminously.
At low frequencies, you can hear a pleasant bass that accompanies a warm and surrounds sound.
The mid and high frequencies are set correctly, even at the maximum volume level, I did not hear very annoying sounds.
If you compare the sound quality between Onyx Free and its previous generations, then I did not feel a strong difference in sound. Therefore, if you already have models, such as Onyx Neo and Spunky Beat, then I do not see the point of buying a new one.
The quality of the microphone wants to be better but considering that these are budget earbuds, you can calmly talk with the interlocutor, but it is better to do this in a quiet place.
Another nice bonus for me was battery life. It is difficult to find budget TWS earbuds with long battery life, but Tronsmart Onyx Free did it.
In practice, the earbuds played for about 6 hours at a 70-80% volume level. Also, the charging box guarantees an additional 4-5 recharges, which gives a total battery life of up to 35 hours.
Miraculously, there is fast charging via the Type-C port. A full charge will take you about 1.5 hours, and a 5-minute charge will make it possible to listen to music for up to 2 hours.
Conclusion and Reviews
After several days of testing the next budget TWS earbuds, I was completely satisfied with both the build quality, ease of wearing, and sound quality.
If you’ve been looking for modern wireless earbuds for a long time that will have a wide range of features, such as aptX support, Type-C, and good battery life, then Tronsmart Onyx Free will be a perfect choice.
It’s hard for me to find the weaknesses of the new Onyx Free model, given its low cost. Therefore, I can confidently advise you to buy earbuds.
Prices and Where to buy cheaper?
Despite the fact that the Tronsmart Onyx Free earbuds received a very wide list of various features, the price remained quite attractive. Now, each user will be able to purchase earbuds at a low price for just $34.99 with the ONYXFREE coupon.
I would like to repeat that the Onyx Free earbuds are quite perfect, but if you already have other models from Tronsmart, then I don’t see the point of buying a new one.
