I already had an older version of an inexpensive laptop from Teclast on the test. Today we will talk about an updated version of the ultrabook called Teclast F15S.
You might think that the new version of the F15S has improved performance when compared to the Teclast F15.
But in reality, this is not the case, the manufacturer decided to confuse us a little, since the processor on the F15S model is used less efficiently than on the F15. Why then it was necessary to add the prefix “S” at the end, I still do not understand. Therefore, a better name for the new laptop would be Teclast F15 Lite and not Teclast F15S.
As for the cost, it is very attractive and currently, you can get Teclast F15S for $320. Let me remind you that the first generation F15 cost about $420 and this is $100 more expensive.
Well, in terms of the main features, the new laptop model boasts a large 15.6-inch IPS screen with Full HD resolution. Also, onboard of the device is an Intel Celeron N3350 processor and has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
In addition, the laptop from Teclast received a good battery capacity of 5000 mAh, a complete metal case with low weight, and a Windows 10 operating system.
Of course, this is not the most productive laptop that I have been able to test. But don’t forget that for almost $ 300, you can’t find anything better. Thus, I suggest you go through the main features and find out for what purpose this laptop is needed.

Unboxing and packaging
Since this is a large 15.6-inch laptop, the device comes in a rather large package. The box itself looks simple, as it is made of ordinary cardboard. On the front, you can see a sketch of a laptop with the brand name and the Intel logo.
Inside the package, I found, of course, the laptop itself, which was packed in protective foam. The package also includes a power adapter and many adapters for different types of outlets.
Considering that the new laptop from Teclast is an ultra-budget device, it will be unnecessary to expect additional accessories. Okay, now let’s talk about the quality and appearance of the new laptop model.
Design, build quality, and materials used
At first glance, you might think that the appearance of the new Teclast F15S laptop is completely identical to its predecessor, the Teclast F15. But in reality, this is not the case and there are a number of significant differences that I want to share with you.
Of course, both models of the F15 line are made from a monolithic metal case. Therefore, I had no problems with severe overheating or problems with stiffness with strong pressure from my fingers on the body.
Besides, I liked how the device was assembled. During my tests, I did not detect any squeaks or other sounds. Even I did a little torsion test and was completely satisfied with the result.
Now let’s see what dimensions the 15.6-inch laptop received. The Teclast F15S model received the dimensions 331 x 220 x 149 mm, and the device weighs only 1.8 kg. Thus, it is not difficult to conclude that this model is more likely to be suitable for home use.
Although, if you sometimes transport for work or educational purposes, then you will not have strong problems. But for this, I would recommend that you purchase an additional transport bag so that the device is completely safe.
Naturally, the F15S did not pass the test for opening the screen lid with one hand. Since the weight of the laptop is not large, not even all flagship laptop models can pass this test successfully.
On the outside of the screen lid, you can see the brand logo in the upper left corner. Also, a similar logo is located on the inner side frame under the screen itself. As for the bezels of the screen, they are quite large, especially when it comes to the bottom of it. For example, the thickness of the screen bezels at the top, on the right, and on the left is about 10 mm.
Above the screen is a front-facing camera with a 2-megapixel module. It’s a decent camera and does its job pretty well. For example, you can easily communicate with relatives or friends on Skype and the video quality will be very good.
The F15S has a full-sized keyboard with all 104 keys. At the same time, using this keyboard was very comfortable when typing. As the response was smooth and good. But there is one drawback – it is the lack of backlighting. If you remember its predecessor F15, then it had a backlit keyboard.
But the area occupied by the touchpad really surprised me. This is a very large touchpad that is easy and comfortable to operate. The touchpad also has various gesture control functions.
Ok, now I think you can go through the external interfaces of the next-generation laptop from Teclast. On the right side of the laptop, there is a slot for a microSD memory card, a headphone jack, and one USB 3.0 port. Meanwhile, on the opposite side, you can also see an additional USB 3.0 port, a DC charging connector with an indicator, and a Mini-HDMI port. That is, the number of ports is not the widest that can be found on modern laptops. Therefore, buying a USB-Hub will definitely not be superfluous.
On the bottom of the Teclast F15S case, four anti-slip feet were installed and there is also a slot for additional SSD format memory. It is best to use this slot for a memory card. This will increase the speed of data transfer and thus the speed of processes in terms of performance will be much better.
I also forgot to tell you where the speaker is on the F15S. The manufacturer Teclast this time decided to install a speaker between the laptop case and the screen. That is, in the place where the hinges are installed to open the screen cover. As for the sound itself, I liked the way the sound sounds. But the volume level can become a problem if you use the device in noisy places. Although a simple solution to this problem is to use headphones, both through the 3.5mm jack and via Bluetooth 4.2 version.
Screen and image quality
On the front of the laptop, Teclast F15S flaunts a large 15.6-inch IPS screen. It’s not the worst screen I’ve tested in the budget notebook category.
For example, I liked the viewing angles of 178 degrees, the brightness value level, and even the color rendering. Yes, I would prefer a matte finish for the screen to have less glare and reflections. But some users like the glossy finish of the screen, as the picture is richer and more beautiful.
Another of the advantages of this laptop model is its Full HD resolution or 1920 x 1080 pixels. If you look at the screen from a distance of 60-80 cm, then you will not even notice individual pixels on the laptop screen.
Again, considering its cost of about $ 300, the quality of the screen is very good. The most important thing that I should note is the fact that after 5-6 hours of work behind this screen, my eyes practically did not hurt, and did not feel severe discomfort.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
The Intel Celeron N3350 processor is responsible for the performance of the new Teclast F15S laptop model. Therefore, I cannot say that performance is the strong point of the F15S. Since the N3350 processor was introduced at the end of 2016 and is almost 5 years old. It received two cores with two threads and at the same time the operating frequency was 1.1 GHz, and in turbo mode, the frequency can rise to 2.4 GHz.
Naturally, I ran a series of tests on various benchmarks and you can see the results in the album below. From myself, I can say that the performance of the laptop is very weak, as for the device of 2021. But if your tasks are very simple, for example, it can be working with text documents, tables, and other similar actions, then this productivity will be enough.
In addition, I can note that the Teclast F15S laptop is well suited for watching videos, movies, for example, on Youtube. But the maximum resolution should not exceed 1080p, and it is even better to watch videos with 720p resolution.
As for games, you don’t have to think about modern and heavy games right away. Since the graphics integrated graphics accelerator Intel HD Graphics 500 is responsible for the graphics. I tried to run Asphalt 9, but nothing came of it. But simple games like Angry Birds, you can easily play.
The Teclast F15S has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC onboard memory. The memory speed of the built-in memory is very weak, therefore the speed of processes was also not the fastest. Therefore, when buying a laptop, I would advise you to add a slot for an SSD memory card and install an operating system on this memory. Yes, you may have to suffer a little and it took me about 3 hours, but I was very pleased with the result.
Wirelessly I also have small issues as the laptop is not using the latest wireless Bluetooth connection – this is version 4.2. But the work of the dual-band Wi-Fi module seemed typical to me, like most budget laptops.
As I said at the beginning of the review, Teclast F15S is controlled by the Windows 10 operating system. When you first turn it on, you can choose your native language. I did not notice any serious problems with the work of the user interface, all functions and tasks were performed well. But as I said, for faster performance, it is better to install a high-quality SSD drive.
Battery and run time
As for battery life, I had no problems with the Teclast F15S laptop. In my case, at the maximum value of the brightness level, the device worked for about 5 hours. During this time, I not only worked with text editors, but also surfed the browser, watched YouTube videos, and even played some simple games.
Therefore, I believe that the battery life of the device is not bad enough. And yes, the manufacturer says about 7 hours of work on a single charge, I think that it is possible to achieve this result. To do this, you need to reduce the brightness level to 60% and use the laptop in a very economical mode.
But the charging time was about 3 hours through the DC port. Of course, here I would like to get an additional Type-C port for charging and video output.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
The Teclast F15S is a decent budget laptop designed for simple and uncomplicated tasks. Basically, this laptop model will be useful for students or pupils who do not need strong performance and heavy tasks.
I can also point out that the F15S model has a number of positive aspects. The main feature I can distinguish is a monolithic metal case with low weight.
Other than that, I liked the performance and responsiveness of the keyboard and the large area of the touchpad. In addition, you get a good quality screen with a large 15.6 inches and Full HD resolution.
On the negative side, I can single out – this is not the most recent processor and integrated video card. Therefore, one should not expect big miracles from the performance side. I also disliked the lack of keyboard backlighting and the small number of external interfaces.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
After several days of testing a new laptop from the Teclast brand, I was left with two emotions. For example, I can immediately say that I would not buy such a laptop for myself since the device received rather weak performance.
But if you’re on a tight budget and need a quality laptop for simple tasks, then the F15S is probably a good choice.
As I said at the beginning of the review, the price tag for Teclast F15S is very tempting, which was $320.28.
