Teclast F15: Unboxing and Packaging

As usual, we start with the packaging. We see the standard white-orange packaging with the model name.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The box contains the laptop itself in cellophane packaging, a black envelope with documentation and a power adapter. It’s all.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Of course, the package is not the main function of any laptop, but I would like to have a protective case included for carrying the laptop.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

But as for the price, it is standard for any laptop. Let’s get down to the look of the device.

Teclast F15: Design and Appearance

When I first saw the Teclast F15 in the test, I thought it was made of plastic, but I was wrong. It is made of aluminum in a dark gray color, and the color varies with the viewing angle. Teclast F15 looks like a premium device.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Surprisingly, it opens perfectly and the connections securely hold the screen itself. In general, it is a good assembly and the quality of materials at a high level.

When I turned the screen, I did not find any weak points. The same applies to the case, you can take the laptop over the edge, without worrying about the subsequent deformation. The material used was a good choice.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Opening the lid of the laptop, we see the keyboard in gray and a large touchpad, on which there are no physical buttons. You can simply touch the touchpad at the bottom right or left for operations. In addition, the Teclast F15 has special gestures, such as page scrolling and others.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The touchpad itself works quite accurately, even if the right button, in the lower right corner, requires an exact click. This is not the best management in the world, but it is not bad. I believe that the quality of the Teclast F15 touchpad is slightly above average.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

A few words about the keyboard. At first glance, it looks decent with a pleasant and strong response.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

When typing, it does not make a lot of noise. I would give the keyboard a little higher than average. Personally, I liked it more than the current Dell Latitude series.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

It is also worth noting that the Teclast F15 has a keyboard backlight and this will be a useful feature when typing text or messages in complete darkness.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

On the sides of the body of the Teclast F15 are the following ports – on the left side of the 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones, and on the right side of the charging port DC.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

On the back of the laptop, we see the following connections: two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and even a microSD memory card slot.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Unfortunately, the specification does not mention whether the port is HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0. However, the device is capable of smoothly reproducing 4K at 60 frames per second. Due to the small thickness of the device, the full card reader does not fit into the case.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The bottom side has a slot for solid-state drive M.2, which can be replaced. Instead of the current SSD Teclast 256 GB, you can mount a larger disk, but only in the M.2 2242 format.

Disassembling a memory slot is really easy. And to replace the SSD there is no need to remove the entire bottom cover.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Also, the laptop Teclast F15 in our analisis has the ability to open the screen 180 degrees. This is the main feature for the new laptop model. But do you need it? I believe that rarely anyone will open the laptop like that, but as for the appearance it is amazing and unusual.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

On the front, just above the screen, the camera is located at 1 megapixel for video calls.

Therefore, the appearance of the notebook Teclast F15 is very striking in its thickness and compact size. A full-fledged 15.6-inch laptop weighs only 1.8 kg, which is a good weight.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The quality of materials is excellent and during our testing of the Teclast F15, we did not reveal any flaws in the assembly.

Teclast F15: Display

One of the reasons for choosing the Teclast F15 is the screen since the HP EliteBook or Lenovo ThinkPad has much higher prices than the Chinese laptop brand. Teclast uses an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a physical size of 15.6 inches.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Unfortunately, I do not have a measuring probe, but compared to the old ThinkPad, Teclast is a clear winner.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The contrast and color rendition are much brighter and better than the old restored sample.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

If we compare the screen, for example, with Acer models, the price of which is from $800 for the base model, the quality of the screen is very close to the test sample. Teclast F15 offers almost the same display, or even with a more accurate image.

Teclast F15: Hardware and Performance

People who choose a laptop computer for work, do not pay attention to the appearance and physical dimensions. First of all, pay attention to the performance of the processor and graphics core.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The tested Teclast F15 offers a quad-core Intel Celeron N4100 processor, built on the Gemini Lake architecture. The processor is quite new. The official presentation took place in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

This Celeron is built on a 14nm manufacturing process, which has a positive effect on its overall performance. Yes, the rendering performance is small, but its total consumption and heat consumption emitted by the processor during operation is almost negligible. Just because of the low power consumption, just 6 watts, the processor is completely passive.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The N4100 has a base clock frequency of just 1.1GHz but has a turbo function, where the processor accelerates to 2.4GHz to achieve the maximum allowable power consumption of 10 watts. At this frequency, it will work for about a minute, which is sufficient for all normal operations that require fast calculation.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

With longer use, the processor reaches the temperature limit set to 86°C, then the frequency drops to 1.8GHz and remains for a long time. The minimum turbo frequency for long-term use remained at 1.6GHz, which is 500MHz more than the base frequency. Cooling did very well and completely silent. In this segment, you are unlikely to find a quieter device.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The N4100 doesn’t look super-gorgeous, but it’s powerful enough for everyday work. Subjective operations with photographs in the trial version of Adobe Lightroom performed without any interference. Approximately 100 RAW photos were uploaded with a resolution of 16 megapixels in two minutes, and the viewing was almost smooth. Although this is not an ideal photo editing device, emergency editing performance is sufficient, including export.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

What about the games? There are no restrictions on the processor side but on the side of the integrated graphics core.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Compared with the previous generation of Apollo Lake, the graphics core has improved by 20%, but this is not an indicator.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Personally, I tested the very demanding Crysis 2007 game. During the game, I managed to achieve a low resolution of 1024×768 pixels (which is significantly lower than the resolution of the notebook panel) and reproduce 30 frames per second.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The game Doom 3 worked with low details and a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at a speed of 35 frames per second, which is more than playable.

Another advantage of the modern processor is acceleration. On Intel Core processors of the first or second generation, you can not even play 4K video format. Even when you run FullHD video on older processors, then it is heavily used and, therefore, consumes more power. While for the Celeron N4100 this is not a problem and the processor will not even get a lot of work, all due to good acceleration.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

In addition to the performance itself, it is also necessary to mention the disk. Teclast, unlike its competitors, offers a real SSD instead of a slow eMMC drive. Despite the average speed, SSD has a significantly higher value than on eMMC drives.

The Teclast disk is connected via Serial ATA 600. It is in M.2 format and, as I mentioned above, the user can easily be replaced with another M.2 222 disk with a screwdriver. In addition to the drive itself, it can be connected via a microSD memory card.

Teclast F15: Software

On the Teclast F15 in the test, the pre-installed operating system is already in the box – Windows 10 Home in English.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

After checking the pre-installed applications from the manufacturer, I found only two applications that I immediately deleted.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Compared to third-party laptops, such as Acer or Asus, malware is really minimal. Here, manufacturers can learn from Teclast, and not install unnecessary programs that only slow down the system.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Fortunately, Teclast does not have a locked BIOS and you can easily change the bootloader startup order.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

Using this, I switched from an internal disk to a flash disk, where I had a live Ubuntu distribution and, finally, Linux Mint in the latest available version.

Teclast F15: Sound

The sound in Teclast is quite good, as for its price. On the side of the laptop is a microphone. I clearly heard the interlocutor when talking via Skype and Facebook.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The speakers are located on the sides. The sound volume is sufficient, but I would recommend using external speakers or headphones for watching movies. I have always used headphones instead of the built-in speakers for watching videos.

Teclast F15: Communication

The laptop also has a wireless Wi-Fi connection that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. In my test, I reached an average speed of up to 45 MB/s.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

We have Bluetooth version 4.0 for communicating with a phone or a wireless mouse. It is also used in conjunction with the Wi-Fi module, located on the motherboard.

Teclast F15: Battery

The capacity of the built-in battery at the Teclast F15 laptop is 6000 mAh.

It should be remembered that the Teclast F15 laptop has an Intel Celeron N4100 and it is a completely passive processor and the power consumption is only 6 watts.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The battery during normal use will be able to work a little over 7 hours. This is when watching a video on YouTube, easy operations, writing texts or viewing information on the Internet at 60% of the screen brightness.

But with more complex work and constant installation of files, in which the processor will have the highest possible frequencies, your laptop will discharge the battery greatly. And in fact, we get the battery life of about 3.5-4 hours.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. Due to the thin body of the laptop, this is a good indicator of battery life with a large screen of 15.6 inches.

Teclast F15: Conclusions and Reviews

From the passed testing, I came to an amazing conclusion about the Teclast F15. First, you need to once again realize that Teclast is, first of all, a laptop not a game class. But it can be used as a real working device for everyday life.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

The laptop has an excellent design with a thin modern body and good ergonomics. The IPS panel also provides bright colors and you can use your laptop as a desktop photo editing tool.

The weight of a full-fledged Teclast F15 laptop with a screen size of 15.6 inches is ideal for everyday transportation. The students will appreciate it on the positive side. With an average processor load, the battery life will be about 6.5 – 7 hours.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

And the pros and cons are enough. I would also mention the inability to play modern games or perform complex tasks. Since the laptop is designed for simple operation, and not for gaming performance.

Teclast F15 Review: 15.6 inch Laptop with Intel N4100

During extensive testing, I used the Teclast F15 as the main device. I watched a video on YouTube, my favorite TV shows in the Kodi player, edited photos from the trip and wrote long texts. All these operations laptop Teclast F15 performed flawlessly.

Teclast F15: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

Now you can order and buy a Teclast F15 laptop at an attractive price for only $425.99 at a 24% discount.

If you compare the prices of manufacturers such as Asus or Lenovo, then the price of Teclast is much lower. For this price, you get an excellent full-fledged laptop with a 15.6-inch screen and a good Intel Celeron N4100 processor with a lot of 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD of internal memory.

Teclast F15 is an ideal option for students, it has a modern design and good battery life for a relatively low price.
