Sharp produces a long list of interesting devices with a decent price tag and good performance. Today I want to share with you my experience of using a budget smartphone. This model was named Sharp Aquos V.
The first thing that distinguishes the smartphone from Sharp is a very tempting price tag and good performance. But I will note right away that the device was presented at the end of 2019 and this is not entirely new, as you might have guessed.
But despite this, even not the newest smartphone model will be able to surprise you. Let’s start our story with the price tag and then talk about the technical specifications. You can currently get the Sharp Aquos V for just $120.
For this price, you get a device with the flagship Snapdragon 835 processor. Of course, it is not the newest as for 2021, but it has very good performance considering its price. Other features I can attribute are the amount of memory for 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The smartphone also has a dual-camera sensor on the back and a 3090 mAh battery.
Knowing that the smartphone was introduced back in 2019, it makes no sense to expect a modern design either. So let me run my own tests and check if it’s worth buying a budget device, but with a flagship processor in 2021?

Unboxing and packaging
A smartphone from the Sharp brand is delivered in a rather plain white package. It does not stand out in any way and there is no device image even on the front part. Here you can find only the inscriptions of the company name and model.
Meanwhile, on the side of the package, I found a sticker with the main specs. For example, these are color, dimensions, screen size, memory, communication, and more.
A number of the following items are included in the package. This is, directly, the smartphone itself in a protective transport film. Under the cardboard partition, I found various documentation, a 10W power adapter, a Type-C charging cable, wired vacuum headphones, and a SIM tray needle.
I was a little surprised that the device has a modern Type-C charging connection. But fast charging is not provided onboard the Aquos V. The presence of wired vacuum headphones also gave my face a reason to smile. But there is no protective silicone case and therefore it will be a small problem and will have to be ordered separately.
Design, build quality and materials
As I said, the Sharp Aquos V model does not stand out with a modern appearance, like most even budget smartphones that were presented in 2021. Therefore, I will not focus too much on the design and its features.
If we talk about dimensions, the device has received compact dimensions of only 157 x 76 x 9 mm and weighs about 173 grams. I have not held such small smartphones for a long time, as recently the screen sizes are much larger than smartphones of previous years.
The back of the smartphone received a glossy plastic casing, but the side ends are also made of plastic, only this time from a matte material. For me, this is a small problem, since I am not a supporter of glossy plastic. Since in practice, fingerprints remained on the back cover of the Sharp Aquos V smartphone.
Also here you can find two camera modules with LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The scanner itself worked well and worked quickly, but sometimes there were problems with accuracy.
At the bottom of the device are the main speaker, microphone hole, and Type-C charging port. Meanwhile, the top end houses a headphone jack and an additional microphone hole.
A volume rocker and a power button on the right side of the device have received the standard location. But on the left side, there is a hybrid slot for dual nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and a microSD memory card.
Screen and image quality
The front side of the device was equipped with an IPS screen with a size of 5.9 inches and a resolution of Full HD + or 1080 x 2160 pixels. At the same time, the aspect ratio was 18: 9, and the pixel density per inch was about 409 PPI.
In addition, the screen was protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 from scratches or other annoyances. Naturally, there are large bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. As for modern standards – these frames look very large.
I note that on the top bezel there is a selfie camera with proximity and light sensors, as well as an LED notification indicator.
As for the quality of the screen itself, I had no problems using it. This is a decent IPS screen for its price, and it has rich colors with a good maximum brightness value.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
The most important feature of the Sharp Aquos V smartphone is its performance. The device uses a Snapdragon 835 processor. It is built on 10-nanometer technology and has eight cores in its execution. Four energy-saving cores with a clock speed of 1.9 GHz and the other four working at a frequency of 2.35 GHz.
Below I will leave tests of various benchmarks, but from myself, I can note that the smartphone with Snapdragon 835 received good benchmark test results. For example, in the AnTuTu test, the device scored about 260 thousand points. And even for a budget smartphone with a price tag of $120, this is a very solid result.
As for the gaming features, the Aquos V model was equipped with the Adreno 540 graphics accelerator. It copes well even with demanding games. You can easily play modern games such as PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty, and others like them. I also did not notice any significant overheating after a considerable time testing the device for gaming abilities.
Inside the body of the smartphone, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory were used. I think at the end of 2019 it was a good value in terms of the amount of memory. But already in 2021, there is not so much memory.
I can also note the presence of a dual-band Wi-Fi module, fast detection of the GPS sensor signal, and even Bluetooth 5.0 version. But the NFC module is not on the smartphone from the Sharp brand.
As for the operating system, the device is controlled by the Android 9 version. There have been no new updates for a long time and most likely you will not receive them. Yes, this is possibly the biggest problem with the old smartphone. But from myself, I can say that the user interface works quite quickly and without any delays.
Camera and sample photos
It is difficult to find modern 48- or 64-megapixel camera modules on an old smartphone model. Therefore, the main camera on the Sharp Aquos V smartphone received a 13-megapixel resolution. And the second camera module has a similar 13-megapixel resolution, but it is designed for black and white photography. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
I have no complaints about the quality of the photos. You can see examples of photos in the album below and see for yourself. I liked the way the main camera takes pictures, as the pictures came out bright and quite saturated.
As for the video, on the main camera module, the smartphone is capable of recording at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second. But the front camera shoots at 1080p resolution and also 30 frames per second. Both sensors have gyro-EIS image stabilization.
Battery and run time
The built-in battery has a capacity of 3090 mAh and, as for everyday measurements, this is a rather small battery capacity. Considering that the Sharp Aquos V smartphone has a high screen resolution and good performance, the battery life will only last for one working day.
Most modern smartphones in 2020 or even 2021 have a battery life of up to 2 days with active use. Therefore, I can only attribute the battery life of the Aquos V model to the negative side.
In addition, the charging time via a standard 10W power adapter was about 2 hours. This is despite the fact that the device has a Type-C connection.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
After testing the old Sharp Aquos V smartphone, I was left with pretty good emotions. Of course, I cannot recommend this model for purchase, as it also has many disadvantages.
But let’s talk about the positive aspects of this model. First of all, I liked the performance of the flagship Snapdragon 835 processor. Also, benchmark tests and gaming capabilities were at a high level considering its cost.
The sample photos were pretty good, as for the 13-megapixel camera module. In addition, I liked the bright and color-rich Full HD screen.
Of the negative points, I can single out – this is a rather outdated design and not the best plastic used. Also, the device runs under Android 9 and there will be no updates to the new OS. The battery life is also not the highest, and the battery charging time is not the fastest.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can get an inexpensive Sharp Aquos V smartphone at a very sweet price for only $119.99.
But I would not recommend it to you for purchase, since for this price you can purchase a newer device with similar or even better technical features. Below I will leave a list of smartphones that can easily compete with the model from the Sharp brand.
