Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite Review: Simplified Flagship with Large Screen

The Korean company Samsung does not cease to amaze at the beginning of 2020 with its new smartphone models. If you remember at the end of December 2019, the manufacturer introduced a new middle-class smartphone called Samsung Galaxy A51, and today I will test a new flagship smartphone, which was called Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite.

In this article, I will tell you the difference between the lite version of the Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. In addition, I will share my impression of the main functions, advantages, and disadvantages.

Currently, the Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone is planned to be sold in mid-January with price tags of about 580 euros. The price for the Lite version is slightly cheaper for their older brothers.

The main features of Samsung’s new flagship smartphone can be attributed to a large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, naturally the flagship Snapdragon 855 processor, 48 MP main and 32 MP front camera, 4500 mAh battery with 45W fast charge and much more.

Well, the smartphone, although it has the Lite prefix, I do not see many critical decreases from the technical part compared to the S10 and S10 Plus models, but let’s find out more in our test.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Design

The main difference between the Galaxy S10 Lite and older models is the screen size. The updated version, it is 6.7 inches. If you recall the S10 and S10 Plus models, then the first screen is 6.1 inches, and the second is 6.4 inches.

Of course, since this Lite model is lightweight, so it will not have rounded edges of the screen, like the older models. As for the screen, I liked the large size, it is convenient to play games and watch movies on it. The screen resolution was 1080 x 2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20: 9.

Super AMOLED Plus technology has several advantages over IPS matrices, for example, very high contrast and realistic colors. Also thanks to AMOLED you have the Always-On Display feature.

The pixel density even with such a large screen is pretty good at 394 ppi. The useful area of the screen on the frontal surface was 87.8%. Naturally, Samsung equipped the front camera on the front with a hole-punch on the screen, which has the name Infinity-O.

It is also worth noting that the fingerprint scanner is located under the screen. It works quickly and fairly accurately. Another protection can be attributed to face recognition of the owner of the smartphone through a selfie camera, which works without any complaints.

The smartphone case Galaxy S10 Lite is made of metal, and the front and back of the protective glass.

The device, although it has a large screen, it lies well in the hand. The dimensions of the new generation smartphone were 162.5 x 75.6 x 8.1 mm and weight 186 grams.

The rear panel has a module of the main sensors, there are three of them, where the main 48 MP module is located in the center. Nearby there is an LED flash for night photos or for use as a flashlight.

At the bottom are a Type-C port, the main speaker and microphone holes. At the top, there is a hole for an additional noise-canceling microphone.

The side right side of the Galaxy S10 Lite received a volume rocker and a power key. On the opposite side, there is a hybrid slot for Dual SIM cards or one SIM card and an additional memory card up to 1TB.

Of the minuses, I can note – this is the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and the lack of water protection of any standard. I think everyone should know that the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus models have IP68 water protection.

In terms of build quality and other elements, I have no objections; the new Galaxy S10 Lite model is well assembled and received a modern and stylish design. But the main feature is a large 6.7-inch screen.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Performance and Software

Since the Galaxy S line is the flagship, a flagship processor called Snapdragon 855 was also installed for the Galaxy S10 Lite. My personal opinion is that I am glad that the Lite version uses the chipset from Snapdragon, and not Exyno’s own production.

In total, the Snapdragon 855 processor has eight cores, where one of them is Kryo 485 with a clock frequency of 2.84 GHz, three Kryo 485 cores with a frequency of 2.42 GHz and four more Kryo 485 cores with a frequency of 1.78 GHz.

The graphics processor Adreno 640 is responsible for the graphics, which shows an impeccable result in games even at ultra-high graphics settings. During testing in games, the device did not have a strong overheating and you can play your favorite games for more than one hour without any consequences.

Everything is simple from memory; Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is equipped with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Of course, if 128GB is not enough for you, you can use an additional slot for a memory card up to 1TB.

The flagship device shows itself from a very positive side and if you look at the results of synthetic benchmark tests, then you will not have any doubts about the quality performance of the Lite version.

The smartphone was introduced in early 2020, so you do not need to expect Android 9.0 since the Galaxy S10 Lite received version 10 with the One UI 2 user interface.

The shell and theme of the interface are very typical for all models from Samsung, so I have no comments on it.

Here you can customize various functions to your taste, for example, select a dark theme, install widgets in the Always-On Display function and much more.

If you have previously used a smartphone from Samsung, then you will not have difficulty getting used to it. Even if you had a different user interface, I do not think you will have problems using it.

As a connection, the S10 Lite device was equipped with a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, the presence of Bluetooth with version 5.0. The location is determined quite quickly due to the modules A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS. In addition, contactless payment is also included in the body of the smartphone with an NFC module.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Camera

The main feature of the flagship smartphone will not be an exception and camera modules. On the back, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite has a main camera on the 48-megapixel Samsung S5KGM1 with f/2.0 aperture and super smooth OIS optical stabilization.

The second module received a 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide photos with a capture angle of 123 degrees. The third sensor has a 5-megapixel module with an f/2.4 aperture, which is used for macro photography.

As I already wrote, on the front panel of the Infinity-O screen there is a 32-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

As for video shooting, the smartphone can shoot in 4K and 30 frames per second and 1080p 30 and 60 frames per second. But the optical super stabilization OIS of the main 48 MP camera only works with a resolution of 1080p and 30 frames per second.

Below I will leave an album of sample photos of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and some comparisons with the flagship older brother of the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Battery

In the battery section, the updated model has both pros and cons. Let’s start with the good, Galaxy S10 Lite got 4500 mAh capacity. The battery life was about 11 and a half hours of screen-on time when I’m watching videos and spending time on social networks.

A pretty good result, it is also worth noting that the smartphone received a 45W power adapter, so charging from 0 to 100% took about 40 minutes.

Of the minuses, I can note – this is the lack of wireless charging, like the older brothers of the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Conclusion and Reviews

Definitely, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone received both positive and negative sides when compared with previous models of the Galaxy S series.

Of the minuses, I can note – this is the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack, water protection standard IP68 and also on board, there is no wireless charging.

I think users will like the large AMOLED screen with Infinity-O hole-punch, photo quality, good performance, and battery life.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Price and where to buy cheaper?

As I wrote above, officially the smartphone will go on sale in mid-January of this year and the estimated price for the Galaxy S10 Lite will be about 580 euros.

The flagship smartphone received some changes from the technical side when compared with the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus models, but the performance, camera, screen, and battery have real flagship roots.
