Just in time for the beginning of the summer, an Anker of the popular Bluetooth speaker Anker SoundCore was introduced by Anker at the end of May. I have looked at the Anker SoundCore 2 once more and looked, whether the favorable speaker for the use on the beach or at the next summer party is good.
Anker SoundCore 2: Design and processing
With dimensions of 168 x 47 x 56 millimeters, the Anker SoundCore 2 can be described as quite compact as its predecessor. Depending on the size of the trousers, it can be placed there – not necessarily comfortably, alternatively it fits into every pocket or backpack and does not even take a lot of space there. The weight of 414 grams is fine for a loudspeaker of this size, does not have a negative effect during transport and gives it a high-quality feeling in the hand.
While more expensive Bluetooth loudspeakers have a completely metal housing, Ankers set the Anker SoundCore 2 on a silicon cover, which makes the small speaker quite robust. If it is dirty, it can simply be washed with water, which is not enough for its IP5X certification. Use on the beach or near the pool is thus possible.
The Anker SoundCore 2 is controlled by five buttons on the top side. These allow you to pause the current song, adjust the volume, and change the song. The optional AUX input and the microUSB jack for charging have been placed under a small flap and are therefore always well protected.
Anker SoundCore 2: Sound
If you appreciate the sound of the Anker SoundCore 2, you should always remember that the small Bluetooth speaker with a price of 50 euros is one of the more affordable models on the market. Top products of the class like the Bose SoundLink Mini 2 cost more than the triple and surpass the Anker product without question. Nevertheless, the speaker of the accessory manufacturer beat itself in the test amazingly well and could convince also sound.
In order to evaluate the Anker SoundCore 2 sound, I listened to music from all genres. As is customary for a cheap loudspeaker of this size, the bass is not very powerful, but more powerful than I expected in advance. Heights and mids sound clear and dominate the sound a bit, but not so much that I would not describe this as more balanced.
Music, where you can do without a particularly crunchy bass, sounds with the Anker SoundCore 2 for its size very well and can absolutely be seen. Songs in the direction of hip-hop and EDM are between okay and good – depending on the frequencies on which the bass is on the road and what is the value of the song.
The volume of the Anker SoundCore 2 is also enormously high. With the small Bluetooth speaker, an entire living room can be sounded without problems, with the sound quality decreasing slightly from a maximum of 3/4 above the maximum value. Nevertheless, the sound is never tinny and in smaller rooms, at the pool or stand you should turn the SoundCore 2 as well as hardly over half.
A pity is that as an overload protection Anker automatically lowers the volume as soon as it rises above a certain maximum, which one should hardly reach in everyday life. If the loud passage is over, the SoundCore 2 is louder again, which can be felt without question as annoying. It would have been better to limit the maximum volume just slightly more so that such fluctuations do not have to occur.
- Anker specifies the battery life of the Anker SoundCore 2 with 24 hours, which is roughly equal to the value in reality. If it is empty, it must be recharged for 3 to 4 hours via microUSB.
- The range of the Anker SoundCore 2 is absolutely satisfactory and is up to 20 meters outdoors. If you move through the house, the transmission only breaks down as soon as two rooms or a floor between the smartphone and speakers lie.
- If Anker SoundCore 2 is powered on, it automatically connects to the source device of the last session. If this is not within range, it automatically switches to the pairing mode, which I thought was very convenient. This does not have to be initiated manually.
- Thanks to an integrated microphone, incoming calls can be routed directly through the SoundCore 2. The sound quality is, of course, worse compared to the smartphone, but is sufficient for short conversations.
- Music can also be played on the Anker SoundCore 2 by means of a jack cable. Devices that do not have Bluetooth can therefore also be used together with the loudspeaker.
Anker SoundCore 2: Conclusion
Measured at its price, the Anker SoundCore 2 can convince with a great workmanship and a good sound. In normal use, it does not sound tinny and is suitable for many musical directions thanks to an existing but not exaggerated bass. Comparing it with more expensive products, it sounds a bit flat, but most of the time it is only in direct comparison.
If you want a bit more bass, you have to spend more money. From 70/80 euro one receives then loudspeakers, which convince in the bass range more but are also no longer quite as mobile. For this, some are equipped with 360-degree sound, which allows the use in the middle of a table. The Anker SoundCore 2 is only a single page, which makes such positioning difficult.
If you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker for this summer and really only want to spend around 50 Euros, the Anker SoundCore 2 can definitely be recommended. Despite its two 6-watt drivers it sounds neat and can with its very high volume also large surfaces. Moreover, he is quite robust, so he should experience the coming summers without problems.
