Last week I was able to test an incredible laptop model from Xiaomi. But today we will talk about an updated version of the laptop from the Redmi brand, which is called the Redmibook Pro 15 2021.
Both laptop models are very similar in technical specifications, but the laptop model from Redmi has a number of differences. Therefore, if you are curious to know my opinion when choosing two laptops, then you should definitely read this full and detailed review.
Okay, first of all, let’s talk about the cost, currently, the price tag of the Redmibook Pro 15 is almost the same as the price tag of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021. That is, you get the basic version of the laptop for only $1020.
According to technical characteristics, the laptop offers a choice of two types of processors – the i7-11370H or i5-11300H. The device also includes 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of built-in SSD format.
The main difference between the Redmibook Pro 15 and Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro models is the screen matrix. For example, a laptop from Redmi has a 15.6-inch IPS screen with a 90 Hz refresh quality. But the model of the device from Xiaomi also has a 15.6-inch screen with only an OLED matrix and 60 Hz.
Now I propose to start detailed testing and discuss the main nuances between choosing two laptops. But first of all, let’s take a look at the package and check the build quality and materials.

Unboxing and packaging
Despite its high cost of over $1000, the new 2021 Redmibook Pro 15 laptop comes in the most common cardboard packaging. On the outside, there is the brand name and the Xiaomi logo. But a sticker with the main technical features was glued to the side of the package.
Inside the box itself, I managed to find a well-packed laptop in protective foam. The package also includes a 100W power adapter with a charging cable and a brief instruction manual.
The equipment itself is very standard, like most laptops in this segment. Therefore, if you want to buy additional accessories, you will have to do it separately. Since there is no protective case in the package bundle, so are the bags. Okay, now let’s check how well the laptop is assembled and analyze the main differences between the two laptop models from Redmi and Xiaomi.
Design, build quality and materials
First of all, I want to start my story with the dimensions and weight of the new laptop from Redmi. The device has received a fairly compact size for its 15.6-inch screen size, which is approximately 350.1 x 242.3 x 17.9 mm. At the same time, the weight of the Redmibook Pro 15 laptop is also not very significant – only 1.75 kg, and taking into account the cable and power adapter, about 2 kg.
The entire body of the laptop was made of aluminum alloy and received the color of gray, just like, among other things, the laptop model from the Xiaomi brand. As for the build quality, I had no complaints at all, since all the components were made perfectly and without any questions.
On the outside of the cover of the device is the name of the company with a slogan. The Redmi Power Your Creativity inscription is not very provocative and looks the same way as the overall appearance of the device. Yes, indeed, the design of the new laptop model practically does not differ from last year’s generation. This has the same minimalistic appearance and at first glance, it is difficult to understand what kind of hardware is installed inside the laptop case.
I also want to note that the design of the two laptop models Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 2021 and Redmibook Pro 15 2021 are very similar. But a little later I will tell you about the main differences, and believe me, they are significant here.
Another test I’m planning to do on a laptop from Redmibook is how easy it is to open the screen lid and can I even open the screen with one hand? Yes, this is another device model, like the Mi Notebook Pro 2021, that was able to pass this test successfully. In addition, I can say that the hinges themselves run quite smoothly and I did not find any extraneous noise or squeaks during my testing.
Another identical aspect in the new Redmibook Pro 15 is the keyboard with the same key layout as on the Mi Notebook Pro model. The keyboard itself is very responsive and, like the Mi Notebook Pro model, I did not find any problems with typing on the 2021 Redmibook device. In addition, the laptop also has LED backlighting with two modes of operation.
At the very top right corner is the power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner. The scanner itself works quite accurately and quickly recognizes the owner of the device. But just below the keyboard, a large touchpad was installed, which was just as comfortable to use as on a laptop model from the Xiaomi brand.
Now let’s talk about the main differences between these two laptop models. The right side of the laptop on the Redmibook Pro 15 received a 3.5 mm audio jack with a USB port. But the left side has connections such as a full-size HDMI port, USB 3.2, and two Type-C connections. Where one is for charging and the other is ThunderBolt 4. While the Mi Notebook Pro model did not have a single USB port. Therefore, for my preferences, the Redmibook device is much better than its older brother from Xiaomi.
Okay, there is still time to talk about the bottom of the device. But here I did not find any special differences between the two device models. For example, on this surface were installed four anti-slip rubber feet, holes for the cooling system, and two speakers. Despite the location of the speakers, I cannot say that the sound quality is very terrible. On the contrary, I liked the sound of the speakers, in which there is a little bass and there is a good volume level.
Screen and image quality
Another difference between Mi Notebook Pro and Redmibook Pro 15 is the screen. Not exactly its size, but the matrix itself. My today’s hero from Redmi has received a 15.6-inch IPS screen. But the main feature of this screen is the high resolution of 3200 x 2000 pixels and the presence of a 90 Hz frequency.
While a high resolution gives you a more detailed picture, then a 90Hz frequency will give you a smoother operation, both in games and during everyday use.
Okay, now let’s check the percentage of metrics like sRGB and others. For example, Spyder5Pro achieved sRGB 95%, NTSC 68%, AdobeRGB 74%, P3 73%. Yes, the performance may not be as perfect as on the 2021 Mi Notebook Pro device. But I think that even such a color scheme will be useful to the average user.
I also wanted to point out the maximum screen brightness, which is only 270 nits. This is not the highest brightness value, so using the laptop will be comfortable indoors, rather than outdoors.
Performance, benchmarks tests, games, and OS
The new model of the Redmibook Pro 15 laptop uses two types of processors – these are Intel Core i7-11370H and Intel Core i5-11300H. Both processors are brand new and were introduced in 2021. I have reviewed the highest version with the i7 chipset. It received 4 cores with 8 threads and a maximum refresh rate of 4.8 GHz.
Based on the benchmark test results, I did not find any particular problems. Below you can analyze the album with various benchmark tests. From myself, I can note that the performance of the Redmibook is completely identical to that of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro model.
Also, this processor received an integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics, but you can also order a version with an external NVIDIA GeForce MX450 video card. Therefore, if you read my review of the 2021 Mi Notebook Pro model, then the gaming features of the new device model remain the same. For example, I managed to play a lot of games and the FPS result was on average from 40 to 60 frames per second.
But here’s the main problem that was on the Mi Notebook Pro, migrated to the Redmibook Pro 15 model. I mean about the overheating of the device. Although the laptop case looks sturdy and beautiful, the manufacturer did not think about the efficient operation of the cooling system.
As you can see from the graphs below, the CPU temperature can go as high as 100 degrees Celsius. At the same time, during games, the keyboard heats up to 53 degrees Celsius and it becomes not as comfortable to play games as I would like.
Inside the case of the Redmibook Pro 15 laptop, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal memory in SSD format are used. The speed of the built-in memory is not very high, but not the smallest. For example, during the CrystalDiskMark benchmark, the result was about 2400 MBps read speed and 1500 MBps write speed.
But as for other qualities of performance, the device copes with the tasks set without any problems. That is, the video is played very smoothly and without any jerking even at high resolution. Also, you can easily work with video editing programs, build graphs, and perform other complex tasks.
The seller from Aliexpress initially installed a licensed OS for me, which was already supplied in English, and not in Chinese, like most products from the Chinese giant Xiaomi or Redmi. This moment made me very happy and I did not have to configure Windows 10 OS in my native language and spend my personal time on it.
I did not find any major problems with the work of the user interface, since all processes worked smoothly. In general, thanks to the high performance, you will not feel limited in the modern world of heavy games and programs.
Battery and run time
The manufacturer Redmi has installed a rather good battery capacity of 70WH inside the case of its Redmibook Pro 15 device. By modern standards, this seems to be a lot. But given that the laptop received a large 15.6-inch IPS screen with a high resolution of 3200 x 2000 pixels and 90 Hz frequency, then you should not expect high battery life.
Indeed, during my testing, the device lasted about 5-5.5 hours on a full charge. But if you reduce the screen resolution to Full HD and 60 Hz refresh rate, then the total battery life will increase to 6.5-7 hours.
That being said, it’s worth noting that I liked the powerful 100W power adapter. Therefore, the time to fully charge the laptop will not exceed 1.5 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
The updated version of the performance laptop Redmibook Pro 15 is practically no different from its fellow Mi Notebook Pro if we talk only about performance. But here are some other aspects for me personally, slightly superior to the device from the Xiaomi brand.
Let’s talk about the positives first, and then the cons. The first thing I really liked was the build quality and the materials used. I was also comfortable using the keyboard and touchpad. This is probably one of the best laptops that I have had no problem with the test suite. Other than that, having a keyboard backlighting only leads to positive feelings.
Another strong point of the Redmibook Pro 15 is the availability of fast charging with a 100W power adapter. Also, the quality of the screen with the high resolution and the presence of the 90Hz frequency has a very positive effect on my eyes.
And of course, I liked that the device from the Redmibook brand uses a large list of external interfaces, including USB and Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support.
Okay, now about the shortcomings that exist, and in some moments they will be quite critical. For example, one of the main drawbacks is an insufficient cooling system, which leads to overheating of the laptop up to 100 degrees Celsius. The maximum brightness of the screen was only 270 nits and this is not the best indicator. I can also highlight the absence of an SD card reader and there is no second NVMe table.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Briefly from myself, I can note that the new laptop model Redmibook is slightly better than its predecessor from Xiaomi. And all thanks to a large number of external connections and ports. But the price tag for both models of the device is absolutely identical.
For example, you can currently get the Redmibook Pro 15 laptop for as little as $1,020.24 for the basic version. In this case, the maximum will cost you $1,155.95. The difference between the versions is not very significant, so I would recommend choosing the most advanced version of the laptop.
