Redmi Note 9 Pro Review: Perfect Design with Snapdragon 720G

A few hours ago, Redmi introduced another mid-range smartphone. In less than six months, the Xiaomi’s sub-brand introduced another model called Redmi Note 9 Pro.

If you are interested in reading our early reviews of the predecessor Note 9 Pro, then I leave a link here.

Today I will share my subjective opinion about the new budget smartphone of the middle class, which looks like a flagship.

Before talking about the appearance and specs, I would like to talk about the price. Since the price is an important factor when choosing and buying a smartphone. The official price of Redmi Note 9 Pro starts from $175 and the first sales begin on March 17.

Relatively low price, the smartphone remained in the same price category as the older brothers. But if you look at the appearance and technical specs, then the changes became unrecognizable. For example, the smartphone received a hole-punch display, a square main camera module, a new Snapdragon 720G processor and a 5020 mAh battery.

Even making the first conclusions, I can affirmatively say that the new smartphone will be the top seller in its price segment. To find such a stuffing at this price is not possible at all.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Unboxing

The new model in the Redmi Note lineup came in a typical white box. Where on the front part you can see a picture of the device with the name of the model and processor.

On the back of the box are the main technical features. For example, a Snapdragon 720G processor, a 48-megapixel camera, DotDisplay, a 5020 mAh battery.

Inside the box, I am met by a separate box, in which there were a protective black transparent silicone case, user manual and a needle for a SIM card.

Below is a smartphone in a protective transport film. In addition, there is an 18W power adapter and Type-C charging cable.

The package bundle is no different from its predecessors, so let’s move on to the appearance and build quality.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Design

Definitely, when you first take a smartphone in your hands, it catches your eye – a hole-punch display for the front camera. The selfie camera is located in the central part, as for example with Samsung models.

The screen size was 6.67 inches and has the previous resolution Full HD + or 1080 x 2400 pixels. Therefore, the pixel density is not as high as that of the flagship models – approximately 395 ppi.

The aspect ratio of the screen is 20: 9. You noticed that each new generation makes the smartphone more elongated to watch movies or play games was much more convenient.

The brightness in automatic mode was 450 nits. As for a budget smartphone, it is quite a sufficient amount. Even in sunny weather, there will be no problems when using Redmi Note 9 Pro.

The screen quality does not stand out, it is typical for its segment. IPS screen has good viewing angles and color reproduction at the proper level.

The backside of the smartphone received the main module of four cameras, which is located in the central upper part of the device. This is a rectangular island with rounded corners in which there are four camera sensors and a dual-LED flash.

The fingerprint scanner is located on the side right side. It performs two functions at the same time – finger recognition and the power button. The fingerprint scanner works very quickly and accurately. A little higher installed a standard volume rocker.

From the opposite end, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and one memory card. This is a slot where you can use dual SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.

The lower part of the Redmi Note 9 Pro received a Type-C port, speaker, microphone and even a 3.5 mm audio jack. The speaker quality is average, but the volume is quite high, but the low frequencies are not enough. Of course, lovers of classic wired headphones will be pleased to have a 3.5 mm port.

The build quality is at a high level, the buttons work with good sense, and I also did not find any defects or extraneous creaks. It is worth mentioning that the front and back of the Redmi Note 9 Pro is made of Gorilla Glass 5 protective glass, and the side frame is made of plastic.

By the way, another bonus is the protection against water splashes. For its class and price – this is a rather rare feature, so Redmi is a big and fat plus.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Performance and Software

Another small improvement was performance. Now, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 720G processor.

Currently, Redmi is the second smartphone that uses this processor. Earlier, the Realme 6 Pro smartphone was the first to receive a new processor and it has proved itself worthy.

At its core are eight cores, where two are Kryo 465 Gold at 2.3 GHz and six are Kryo 465 Silver with a clock frequency of 1.8 GHz. The chipset is powered by 8-nanometer technology.

Adreno 618 graphics processor is responsible for the graphics. Even in the most difficult games, you will have no problems. What about overheating? That Redmi Note 9 Pro feels great even after 1 hour of playing games.

From memory, the device comes with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal memory. As I mentioned, a memory card slot is present for microSDXC cards.

Below I will leave some benchmark tests. For example, Redmi Note 9 Pro in AnTuTu scored almost 280 thousand points. The result exceeds your expectations!

For the 2020 phones, expecting Android 9.0 makes no sense. Currently, the Redmi Note 9 Pro smartphone has received the new Android 10 system with the MIUI 11 user interface.

The software works very smartly and I did not find any problems with freezing. In general, I am pleased with the interface and the good optimization of work from the Redmi brand.

Naturally, there is no point in expecting 5G in the middle class of the smartphone, but the work of 4G does not have any problems. The connection is excellent and I did not find any interference.

Wirelessly, there is dual Wifi connection with a/b/g/n/ac networks, Bluetooth with version 5.0, and fast GPS. The Wifi speed is high, and satellites find your location quickly and accurately.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Camera

If we consider the technical component of the main camera, then it has not received any changes with Redmi Note 8. The main camera of the Redmi Note 9 Pro has completely similar modules as the older brother. Let’s remind them a little.

This is a 48-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture using gyro-EIS stabilization. The second module is an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide shots. The latter, the third and fourth modules received a 2-megapixel resolution for bokeh and macro shots.

But the front camera was slightly improved and equipped with a 16-megapixel module.

An example of the pictures you can see below in the album. The quality of the camera is at an impeccable level, even at night.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Battery

In addition, autonomy has become an order of value better for the new generation of Redmi Note 9 Pro. The battery capacity was 5020 mAh, while the predecessor Redmi Note 8 Pro had 4500 mAh.

The battery life depends on a load of use, but it will be possible to achieve 2-3 days of work at one charge level.

The charging time through the Type-C port and a power adapter with an output of 18W will be about 2.5 hours. Naturally, there is no wireless charging.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Conclusion and Reviews

The first impression of Redmi Note 9 Pro has remained very positive. I believe that Redmi has made every possible effort to enter the market with a new strong rival for its competitors.

Improvements affected the appearance, but the materials used and build quality remained the same, but at a decent level. The performance with the new Snapdragon 720G processor and battery life show better results.

In terms of camera performance, I did not notice significant improvements, except for the front. Although, the quality of the photos is at a high level.

Of the minuses, I can say about the lack of contactless payment with NFC. Recently, many users want to have a new smartphone with an NFC sensor. But do not be disappointed, as the Redmi Note line will be very extensive and you just have to wait a bit.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Price and where to buy cheaper?

The official sale of the Redmi Note 9 Pro smartphone will begin on March 17 at a price of $175. Without any doubt, it will be impossible to purchase at such a price at the start of sales, so it is worth planning that the price will be around $220.

When the device goes officially on sale, I will leave the stores with the lowest prices. And now it remains only to wait, but there is not much left to wait!
