The giant smartphone maker Redmi has presented another model of the device with very interesting features and functions. Today we will talk about an updated version of the smartphone called Redmi Note 10S.
The new generation of the device is somewhere between the technical specifications of Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro. Therefore, in this article I will try to tell you all the main differences between the Note 10S between the basic version of the Note 10.
Sales will start on April 28 and the price tag on Redmi Note 10S will be very attractive. For example, for the basic version 6 and 64 GB of memory, you will have to pay $199. But for version 6 and 128 GB – $219.
If you look at the price tag of Redmi Note 10, then they are also asking for $199 for it now. Therefore, it is worth paying attention here that the cost of the Note 10S model is auctioned and in a few days the price tag will increase by several tens of dollars.
Based on the technical features, the new Note 10S smartphone received exactly the same size and screen matrix as its predecessor. That is, a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution is used on board the device. But the main change was the heart of the device, since a new Mediatek Helio G95 processor was installed in the smartphone.
Also, the new model has added RAM from 4 to 6 GB. Another change I can mention is the improved main camera module from 48 to 64 megapixels. The rest of the parameters remain the same, as in the Note 10. Thus, I propose to start a full and detailed review to find out whether the new generation of the smartphone is worth your attention or not.

Unboxing and packaging
The updated version of the smartphone from Redmi is delivered in the most ordinary white packaging, like all its predecessors from the Redmi Note line. On the front of the box, there is a drawing of the device with various color options.
On the side of the package, there is a sticker with the main technical features and characteristics. That is, here you can see the version of your memory and information about the company.
Inside the package itself, I found a protective transparent silicone case, a needle for a SIM tray and various documentation. Also, the smartphone itself, a Type-C charging cable and a 33W power adapter were in the box. In general, the package is very similar to that of most of its older brothers. Therefore, let’s find out from what materials the device is assembled and how well it is.
Design, build quality and materials
In terms of appearance, the Redmi Note 10S and Note 10 models are completely identical smartphones. For example, the dimensions and weight on both models were 160.5 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm and 179 grams. It was difficult for me to find any differences, since there were none at all. But after that, I found that the Note 10S model has a gray rim around the main camera sensor.
In addition, the body of the new smartphone was also made of plastic. Yes, maybe this is not the best option, but given its cost, I was not surprised by such a material of manufacture. Also, I didn’t have any special comments about the build quality. The device was well assembled and I did not find any squeaks or extraneous sounds. I can also highlight the presence of protection against dust and splashes under the IP53 standard.
The back of the Note 10S has exactly the same design of the main camera module as the Note 10. Here you can find four sensors of the main camera with LED flash. There are no other elements on this side anymore.
But the fingerprint scanner was built on the right side of the device next to the volume rocker. Meanwhile, on the left side, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and a microSD memory card. Naturally, I am glad to have a combo slot where I can use two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.
The bottom end of the Redmi Note 10S smartphone received holes for the main speaker, a Type-C port for charging, a hole for a microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the upper end of the device, there are also additional holes for the second speaker and microphone.
At the same time, the sound quality on the new generation smartphone is absolutely the same as on the previous generation Redmi Note 10. Stereo sound gives good volume and dynamics. Also, the sound has a pretty good bass and the maximum volume level was very good.
If in appearance I did not find any changes between the Redmi Note 10S and Note 10 models, then let’s take a look at the main differences in screen quality and its features.
Screen and picture quality
As well as the design, the size and matrix of the screens on both models of Redmi Note 10S and Note 10 smartphones are completely identical. That is, the devices received a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution or 1080 x 2400 pixels.
The aspect ratio of the screen was 20: 9 and the pixel density per inch was within 409 PPI. Besides, the frames around the screens are absolutely identical and the useful area occupied by the screen on the front side is 83.5%.
I really liked this screen, both for its color features and for its size. For example, it was very comfortable for me to hold the device in my hand. And even using a small screen size is much more comfortable than a 6.7-inch size.
The maximum brightness level was 1100 nits, and the typical value was 450 nits. This is a very solid indicator of the brightness level. It was a pleasure to use the Note 10S outdoors. The same goes for viewing angles, contrast and color gamut.
In the display settings, you can also set the Always-On Display function, since the device is equipped with an AMOLED screen. Other features I can refer to are night mode, reading mode, choice of colors and much more. Okay, if the quality of the screens on the Note 10S and Note 10 smartphone models has remained intact, what about performance? So let’s talk about it now.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
The main change in the new model of the Redmi Note 10S smartphone was performance. The device uses the new Mediatek Helio G95 chipset, which was created using 12 nanometer technology.
Let me remind you that the previous generation of Note 10 had a Snapdragon 678 processor, which was built using 11 nanometer technology. Therefore, the performance of the new device model, in fact, should be worse. But let’s see how the device performed in practice.
In the AntuTu test, the Note 10S smartphone scored 325 thousand points, but the previous generation had a result of 240 thousand points. Indeed, the difference is also significant in synthetic tests, the new device from Redmi is far superior to its predecessor. I’ll also leave an album with other benchmark tests below.
As for gaming abilities, the smartphone uses the Mali-G76 MC4 graphics accelerator. In practice, it showed very good results. For example, I managed to launch games such as Genshin Impact, Call Of Duty and others. I did not observe any special remarks, and the same applies to the overheating of the device.
Another thing to say about the amount of memory. My version of the Redmi Note 10S smartphone came with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. At the same time, the speed of the internal memory is not particularly prominent. That is, the device showed the result of 350 MBps read speed and 215 MBps write speed.
If we talk about wireless communication, then I did not find any special problems in the new smartphone model. For example, the Redmi Note 10S device comes with fast Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth 5.1 version and GPS module. It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone has received an NFC module, but it is not supplied on every model. That is, contactless payment will be available in certain regions and in certain markets.
But the operating system remains the same as on the Note 10. It uses Android 11 version with the MIUI 12.5 user interface. During my testing, I did not find any significant problems with optimization of processes and work. All in all, all the features were fast and lightning fast. I also want to note that I have a global version of the firmware, so I had no problems with languages and Google services.
Camera and sample photos
Another small change to the Redmi Note 10S is the camera. Namely, the main camera module received a resolution of 64 megapixels. The previous generation Note 10 had 48MP resolution. This time the number of megapixels has increased, but the value of 0.7m is lower when compared with the previous generation or competitor Realme GT Neo.
For example, if in the daytime the photos on the new Note 10S smartphone turned out to be of pretty good quality. But in poor lighting, the Realme GT Neo far surpassed its rival. I think the problem is still in the optimization of the camera, since the exposure on the new Redmi device was not the best. In addition, the photos were quite dark.
The second camera module received a resolution of 8 megapixels and is exactly the same as on the Note 10. You can see examples of photos in the album below. The third and fourth sensor has a resolution of 2 megapixels with an aperture of f/2.4. These sensors were designed for macro and bokeh modes. Both work well and I have not found any strong comments.
A 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.5 aperture is installed on the front side of the device. The quality of the photos is not the best in its class, but the pictures were obtained with quite good detail and color reproduction.
In terms of video shooting, the Redmi Note 10S model is capable of shooting 4K and 30 frames per second, 1080p at 60 or 30 frames per second. But it’s worth noting that video stabilization will only be available at 1080p and 30fps.
Battery and run time
The capacity of the built-in battery on the Redmi Note 10S remains the same – 5000 mAh, as on the Note 10. During my testing, the device worked for 1.5 days. This is a pretty good indicator for its class.
More precisely, in half an hour in the Call of Duty game, the smartphone was discharged by 10%, the trotting test discharged the device by 9%. But at the maximum value of the brightness level, the smartphone consumed energy of 210 mAh per hour.
Also, the new smartphone model has a fast charging function with a 33W power adapter. For half an hour of charge, the device was charged by 55%. A full charge took me 77 minutes.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After my complete and in-depth testing of the new Redmi Note 10S model, I was left with a positive impression. Definitely, I can say that the model with the S index at the end showed a better result in terms of performance than the previous generation of Redmi Note 10.
Yes, perhaps some aspects such as design, dimensions and weight, screen, battery remained unchanged. But the performance and memory have become much better.
I liked the work of the new Mediatek Helio G95 processor. Although the technological process showed only 12 nanometers, the benchmark test results are far superior to the 11 nanometer Snapdragon 678 chipset. Another advantage I can highlight is the good battery life with the ability to fast charge.
But the negative sides of the new smartphone model are the soiled plastic case, the unoptimized camera operation in the dark and the lack of stabilization with 4K resolution.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, that is, today on April 28th, the official sale of the Redmi Note 10S model starts at a very tempting price of only $199.99.
Of course, I can recommend the updated smartphone model, as it has shown itself to be a worthy side compared to previous models.
