Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

Just a few days ago, Xiaomi and the Redmi sub-brand introduced several interesting devices, such as the Redmi K30, the RedmiBook 13 laptop, the Redmi Router AC2100 router and the AI Speaker Play smart speaker.

In this article, I want to share my impressions about the technical specifications of the new middle-range smartphone Redmi K30.

Currently, the prices for the Redmi K30 start at $265, but as soon as you know the main features of the device, you will be surprised.

The madly sensational smartphone from Redmi received a rather large 6.67 inch IPS screen with support for 120 Hz and HDR10, a Snapdragon 730G processor, a 64-megapixel main camera and a dual front camera with 20-megapixels, 4500 mAh battery capacity with fast charging at 27 watts.

I was very much hooked by a smartphone, I am very rarely surprised, but the K30 model looks and has a technical base much more expensive than its price.

Redmi K30: Design

Before talking about the appearance, I would like to note that the Redmi K30 smartphone has two versions – 4G and 5G. The design of both models is no different, but the technical part has differences, but I will talk about them a little later.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

On the front side of the device is a large 6.67-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The device lies well in the hand, despite its large screen size.

In size, the smartphone Redmi K30 has 165.3 x 76.6 x 8.8 mm and weighs about 208 grams.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

As I wrote above, one of the main features of the smartphone is the presence of a high-frequency screen with 120 Hz and HDR10.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

Indeed, when you even scroll through the menu of a smartphone, the transitions themselves are very smooth. Therefore, I can call the device a gaming one, although a non-flagship processor is installed inside the case.

The quality of the flowers is at a decent level, the contrast and brightness are high, which will allow using the device without any difficulties in sunny weather.

Another interesting feature of the K30 is the double-wide hole-punch display for the front camera, as on the flagship Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.

A few days ago, I wrote a review about the new smartphone Huawei Nova 6 and he received a similar double-wide hole-punch for the front camera. Currently, all manufacturers are trying to please selfie lovers and Redmi is no exception.

The back and front panel has a protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5, but the silicone protective case that comes with the kit will not be superfluous.

On the back of the smartphone is the main camera with four sensors in the center. Just below the camera modules is a dual-LED flash.

An interesting element in the design is the eye-catching circle around the main camera modules. A similar solution like the OnePlus 7T, but the location of the sensors is vertical, and not in a circle.

As you can see, there is no fingerprint scanner on the rear panel, as it is located on the side panel on the right side. Also, just above the scanner, there is a volume rocker.

Doesn’t resemble anything? Again, I saw the same solution on the Huawei Nova 6 and other models. Why have manufacturers begun mass production of a fingerprint scanner on the side? I can’t say for sure.

The main speaker, microphone, Type-C port and a 3.5 mm audio jack were installed on the bottom of the case. I was very glad to see the headphone port and I think that for many users its presence will not be superfluous.

A hybrid slot for two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and the memory card is located on the left side of the device.

From above I found an infrared sensor and a hole for an additional noise-canceling microphone.

In general, I like the look and design of the new Redmi K30. Although it does not look unique, it keeps up to date with other flagship rivals.

Redmi K30: Performance and Software

As I said, the Redmi K30 has two versions with 4G and 5G networks. For example, with a 4G network, the device will have a Snapdragon 730G processor, but with a 5G network, a more powerful Snapdragon 765G processor will be delivered.

Both processors work smooth and open any applications quickly and without any problems. Naturally, the Snapdragon 765G has a newer Adreno 620 graphics processor, which will perform better in heavy games than the Adreno 618, although not significantly.

There is no difference in memory between the two versions; UFS2.1 with various memory options is installed on the Redmi K30. For example, 6 and 8 GB of RAM and 64, 128 and 256 GB of internal memory. A memory card slot is present, but you will have to sacrifice one place for a nano-SIM card.

The device runs on the new Android 10 operating system with the MIUI 11 user interface. Everything is familiar to us and as usual.

The Chinese version will offer only one English and three variants of Chinese. Therefore, it is worth waiting for the global version to have different languages and networks in your country.

I have no comments on the user interface; it is simple, ordinary, but has a large number of additional functions.

Redmi K30: Camera

The camera on 4G and 5G versions do not have any differences. The main camera of the Redmi K30 received a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with f/1.9 aperture.

The second module has an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide photos. The second and third modules have a resolution of 2 megapixels with the same f/2.4 aperture, but the third for macro photos, and the fourth for bokeh.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

The front camera received two modules, one for 20 megapixels with an f/2.2 aperture, and the second for 2 megapixels with an f/2.4 aperture for bokeh.

The quality of the photos is worthy of attention, both at night and in the daytime. The colors are vibrant and realistic, the detail is at a high level. Below you can see the album of photos taken on the Redmi K30 in various modes.

Redmi K30: Battery

The battery level on the Redmi K30 with the version with 4G and 5G does not differ and amounts to 4500 mAh, but the power adapter is different. For example, for the 4G version, the device received a 27W adapter, and for 5G – a 30W adapter.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

The battery life is good and will be about 2 days with an average load of use. Of course, if you are a fan of heavy games, then you can discharge your smartphone before the end of the first day in 5-6 hours.

The charging time for the 4G version will be 68 minutes and for 5G about 57 minutes from 0 to 100%. As you can see, the result is not much different from each other.

Redmi K30: Conclusions and Reviews

The new Redmi K30 smartphone has a very interesting technical specification and at the same time a rather low price.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

Currently, the Chinese version of the device, in which there are no different languages, can be considered a minus. If English is not a problem for you, then you can not wait and with the release of the global version, reinstalling Redmi K30 on the global will not be a particular problem.

What did I like about the new Redmi K30 smartphone? Absolutely everything, namely a high-quality gaming screen with a 120 Hz frequency and HDR10 support, as well as an attractive and modern appearance. Indeed, the middle range of the device looks like a full-fledged flagship.

Redmi K30 Review: Monster with 120Hz and 64MP Sony IMX686

The quality of the camera is at a high-level thanks to the 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 module. In addition, various modes such as ultra-wide and others work fine and show good detail and color.

The performance even for the most difficult games will be sufficient at medium graphics levels, and the choice of memory is very wide. This also applies to battery life with the presence of fast charging.

Redmi K30: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

Now you can buy a Redmi K30 smartphone with 4G for $265.49, and with the 5G version, the device will cost you $373.99.

The price with different versions differs by more than $100, but even with the 4G version, the smartphone has first-class technical specifications with a minimum price tag.
