The new sub-brand Redmi from the company Xiaomi has become very popular and now the company has introduced a new flagship called Redmi K20 Pro in our review.
The first and most notable feature of the K20 Pro smartphone is its frameless design, without any notch for the front camera. The smartphone is equipped with a pop-up front camera.
The Redmi K20 Pro has an AMOLED display, a Sony Sensor 48-megapixel camera, NFC support, and an improved fingerprint sensor under the screen. In addition, this device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which we will write more about than usual in the continuation of the review.
Xiaomi Mi 9 is the flagship that has received excellent technical features at the lowest price, but now the new flagship Redmi K20 Pro is even better. Pricing for the K20 Pro killer phone starts at $450 now.
Therefore, I propose not to hesitate and proceed to our detailed and in-depth review of the next flagship of the killer Redmi.

Redmi K20 Pro: Unboxing
The dimensions of the box are standard for Redmi smartphones, the design is made of black and purple. On the front surface of the box we see the name of the model, and on the back – the technical specification.
If you notice the Redmi sub-brand has not recently had the name Xiaomi on the box, but the logo has remained.
Inside the box, I found the following components – a black protective case, instructions, a SIM card needle, a smartphone in a protective film, a Type-C charging cable and a power adapter with 27W.
As for the flagship, everything is simplistic, but considering the price, you should not expect more. I want to note that the quality of the protective cover is very good and pleasant to the touch.
Redmi K20 Pro: Design and Appearance
Redmi K20 Pro in our test does not lag behind other top smartphones on the market – both in design, quality and in the materials used. The front and back panels have a glass with a so-called “glossy” design.
Reliability of manufacture, convenience in hand and size give this device a special high note.
Redmi claims that the glass case was processed in a two-layer nanolaser holographic process to produce a unique color. The only thing that negatively affected was countless fingerprints, especially on the back panel glass.
As in the case of Mi 9, the flagship module Redmi of the triple rear camera is raised above the rear panel. In this case, a convenient detail is the ring around the upper sensor like a rainbow is poured with different colors.
The cameras were mounted vertically, in the center of the back panel, and under them is a dual LED flash. In general, the back panel looks very nice and elegant. This is largely due to the lack of a fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint scanner is located under the screen on the front.
The front and back panels are covered with a protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for better resistance to scratches, bumps and the like.
A frameless screen with no notch dominates the front surface. The 20-megapixel selfie camera leaves the phone case, the earpiece can be seen above the screen.
Two glass panels combine an aluminum frame, on the right side of which there are standard power buttons and volume control. And yes, the power button is highlighted in red. There is nothing on the left side.
On the bottom of the Redmi K20 Pro is a USB Type-C port, which is located between the speaker and the SIM card slot.
On the upper side of the case, there is an additional hole for a microphone and an exit for the pop-up camera.
Redmi K20 Pro in the test is not small in size, so using with one hand will be problematic. The size of the K20 Pro is 156.7 x 74.3 x 8.8 mm and its weight is 191 grams.
The company claims that the 6.39-inch screen is comparable to the size of an older 5.5-inch smartphone.
Redmi K20 Pro: Screen
At the moment, the most common in the flagship segment are AMOLED screens. The company Xiaomi also adheres to this decision, which after the Mi 8 series continues to install such screens on all of its flagship smartphones.
The Redmi K20 Pro screen is not an exception, the company decided to equip it with an AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) screen.
So, the K20 Pro has a 6.39-inch size with a resolution of FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) at 403 ppi.
The screen to body ratio is 86.1%, the brightness is 600 nits, and the contrast reaches 6000: 1. The screen has an HDR display and the NTSC color range is 103.8%.
Many people will like the AOD (Always On Display) function, thanks to which all notifications and basic information, such as time, are displayed on a disabled screen. This feature is present in the Redmi K20 Pro model thanks to the AMOLED display in our analisis.
Here we have always welcomed the possibility of double tapping the screen to light it up and see what’s new if the AOD is not used.
The Sunlight 2.0 feature is also interesting as supporting better visibility of content on the screen in the sun. Sunlight 2.0 mode intelligently adjusts the brightness in open spaces – and it really works.
For example, when you go out of the shadow in the sun, you can see how your screen adjusts the brightness to fit you, and therefore the visibility in the sun is very good.
Among other things, this screen comes with some other standard features that are available on all Xiaomi smartphones, so in the settings you can adjust the color temperature to warm, cold or standard, adjust the contrast and choose different color profiles.
All enthusiastic readers will especially enjoy the reading mode, which when turned on reduces the transmission of blue light. This feature can be configured to turn on at a specific time in the evening and turn off in the morning.
There is also a night mode that saves battery, the background on the screen is completely black and white. This feature can also be enabled automatically or when you need it.
One of the main features of this screen is that it is equipped with a built-in fingerprint sensor of the seventh generation. This advanced optical fingerprint recognition technology provides excellent results. Unlocking the device is quick and accurate thanks to this advanced fingerprint sensor. A small note – we did not have any protective tempered glass on the screen, but they say that the sensor can work poorly if there is some additional protective glass on the screen.
Redmi K20 Pro: Hardware and Performance
The world premiere of the Redmi K20 Pro model was introduced with a Qualcomm processor for high-end devices called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 in our test.
As Qualcomm claims, this processor is designed to achieve the best performance in key areas of smartphones, such as AI functions, games, and performance.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is manufactured using a 7nm process technology and uses the Qualcomm® AI Engine, which consists of eight Kryo 485 cores and Adreno 640 graphics.
These eight cores now work at a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Snapdragon 845 predecessor. In this case, the clock frequency is up to 2.84 GHz compared to the 2.8 GHz of its predecessor.
Regarding internal and external memory, Redmi provided several options for customers. Therefore, Redmi K20 Pro offers 6 and 8 GB of RAM, as well as internal memory in 64, 128 and 256 GB versions.
In general, the hardware configuration of the flagship smartphone Redmi K20 Pro is really great and sufficient to meet the mobile needs of each user and even the most demanding.
The speed of opening applications, their downloads and multitasking are at a high level. We tried several demanding games on the K20 Pro, such as PUBG Mobile, War Robots and Asphalt 9. At the high graphics settings, we found no problems, everything worked smoothly and stable.
In general, the performance, as for the flagship smartphone is no different from its competitors. For this money, you get the top-end Snapdragon 855 processor today with the lowest price tag.
Redmi K20 Pro: Software
In our edition, we received a Redmi K20 Pro smartphone that runs on the Chinese version of the MIUI 10.2 user interface based on the Android 9 Pie operating system.
Since this is not a global version of the user interface, all Google services are missing here. Also one of the typical features of the Chinese version of this user interface is the absence of many menu languages and problems with synchronization.
In this case, I recommend waiting for the global version of the device to get all the features from the smartphone.
As I wrote in my reviews earlier, the Chinese version is unstable for many markets, so it’s difficult to provide 100% of the working functions. For example, even in the Chinese version, NFC will not work in some countries.
In our test, MIUI on the Redmi K20 Pro model in the analisis is fast and stable. Without open background applications, more than 5.6 GB of RAM is available.
Therefore, at the moment the user interface is not intended for the international market. Be careful when buying a Redmi K20 Pro – look at the global firmware version.
Redmi K20 Pro: Cameras
Xiaomi Mi 9 is the company’s first flagship smartphone with a triple rear camera, and this trend is followed by the new flagship Redmi K20 Pro too. Although the triple rear camera is not completely identical to the one that can be found on the Mi 9 flagship, let’s take a closer look.
In the trend, there is a 48-megapixel camera with the main Sony IMX586 sensor, which is also on the flagship of Mi 9. This sensor uses 4-in-1 pixel connection technology, has a pixel size of 1.6 µm and an aperture of f/1.75. An additional 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture also joins it. The third sensor in this camera module includes a wide-angle (123 degrees) 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. The triple camera provides 2x optical and 8x digital zoom, and phase autofocus provides precise focusing.
Under the triple camera module is a dual LED flash. With standard camera settings, the resulting images have a resolution of 12-megapixels. While those who need 48-megapixel images, you will need to use manual settings, in which you can choose the mode of 48 MP or use a separate mode on the 48-MP. Images taken with 48-megapixel shooting have a resolution of 8000 x 6000 pixels.
The camera application is essentially the same as in other models of the company, but with several additions.
The main functions are associated with the artificial intelligence segment of the camera and an interesting function – the night scene mode.
Shooting mode for night photos, thanks to which users can take pictures of HDR photos at night, and the end result at the level of more powerful models of the company, is still very good. See how the pictures look at night.
We will also mention the super wide-angle mode, which is available on the left side of the screen next to the 1x mark (optical zoom).
You no longer need to enter Pro mode to enable wide-angle shooting. And in the “Portrait” mode, there are several interesting features, in addition to receiving photos with a very popular Bokeh effect. Now you can add some other effects to it so that it can be around you in various forms – long, dark, etc. In addition, the background level of the blur can also be adjusted.
The triple rear camera can record 4K video at 60 and 30 frames per second, FHD video at 30, 120 and 240 frames per second. There is also a slow-motion FHD image at 960 frames per second.
Redmi K20 Pro: Sound
On the bottom of the smartphone, Redmi K20 Pro in our test is a hole for the speaker, which has traditionally been located to the right of the USB Type-C port. The big advantage for the flagship is the presence of a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top of the smartphone.
We are pleased that the sound quality is at a very good level, and the reproduced sound is quite rich and loud.
Redmi K20 Pro: Communication
Redmi K20 Pro offers support for all of our most important networks, including 800 MHz LTE, which is not often found in the Chinese versions of the Xiaomi smartphone. The smartphone, presented in our review, has a slot for two NanoSIM cards, support for 4G LTE networks and support for two SIM cards. Also Redmi K20 Pro comes with VoLTE HD (Voice over LTE) with voice over 4G / 4G +. At the same time, the sound quality of phone calls will be excellent.
As for the 4G signal reception and the sound quality, there were no problems.
There is also contactless NFC payment on the smartphone, but considering the Chinese version, in my region, I was unable to attach my card.
As for positioning, we already have standard support for GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo. Through the Google Maps application, we tried navigation that worked without problems.
Redmi K20 Pro: Battery
This is definitely one of the areas in which no one wants to compromise. The better the battery provides long-term autonomy of the device, the greater the desire of each user to purchase a device.
The Redmi K20 Pro is equipped with a 4000 mAh fixed-capacity lithium-ion battery, which surprised us with incredibly fast charging at 27W.
Throughout the day, using the K20 Pro smartphone, which included moderate use of social networks, surfing, benchmarking testing and games, we had 40-45% of the battery capacity at the end of the day.
Playing about half an hour in graphically demanding games, “ate” about 7% of the battery capacity.
This smartphone comes with a 27W charger and the charging speed of the Redmi K20 Pro using the appropriate charger is as follows:
- 20% = 8 minutes
- 50% = 20 minutes
- 100% = 55 minutes
Redmi K20 Pro: Conclusions and Reviews
Redmi K20 Pro is another flagship killer from the company Xiaomi, which has many functions and it all comes in a beautiful little package in our review.
This smartphone offers a beautiful and elegant design that comes with premium workmanship worthy of any flagship smartphone.
The cameras are great and take really good photos, it also concerns the autonomy of work with fast charging.
The latest generation of a fingerprint scanner under the screen – provides fast and accurate unlocking up to 0.8 seconds.
At the moment, I can single out one drawback – this is the Chinese version of the firmware, which is not intended for international markets. But after waiting for the global firmware, you will get a strong flagship at a low price. Even the OnePlus 7 Pro is slightly inferior to the K20 Pro in some aspects.
Redmi K20 Pro: Prices and Where to buy cheaper?
Already, you can buy the flagship smartphone Redmi K20 Pro at an attractive price for only $453.99 for the basic version of 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
Considering the price and technical specifications, the Redmi K20 Pro provides flagship functions and in some aspects is even better than competitors such as OnePlus or Oppo smartphones.
