In the Indian market, a sub-brand from the Oppo company called Realme has already captured good popularity. Due to its low price and good technical specs, the Realme line of smartphones attracts much attention. Today I want to pay attention to the new smartphone called Realme X in our review.
An interesting fact is that it is not yet available in the Indian market, but in China, you can already order and buy for $265.
Realme sub-brand wants to compete with sub-brand Redmi. Therefore, the company presented another model of the middle class, which will be a direct competitor for Redmi Note 7 Pro.
The Realme X has a large 6.53-inch screen with AMOLED technology, a Snapdragon 710, a fingerprint scanner under the screen, a pop-up selfie camera and a main 48-megapixel sensor from Sony.
The characteristics are very interesting, what came of it, so let’s begin our in-depth review.

Realme X: Unboxing
This time we got a device with a rather large box. It is gray-yellow in color, on the front side I see only the model name “X” and “Realme” just below.
On the back side are the main technical features.
Inside the box is a smartphone in a protective film, also included is a protective case. I want to note that the case is not cheap, it has a plastic base, but the sides are silicone, which is unusual for middle-class smartphones.
In addition, the box contained a user manual, a Type-C charging cable and a charging adapter with 20W fast charging.
The package as for its class – standard and nothing special, I did not see, except for the protective cover.
Realme X: Design and Appearance
The first thing that catches your eye is the front panel of the smartphone Realme X in our test. It has a much smaller frame around the screen and no notch for the front camera, so now the screen takes a much larger percentage on the front surface.
The front camera is retractable from the case, as is already modern for many models of smartphones.
In addition, the Realme X design has slightly rounded edges on the sides. It has been ergonomically designed for better grip in the hand. Since the screen is more than 6.5 inches – to control with one hand is very problematic.
At the bottom of the screen are the Android virtual keys, which are now standard.
The back of the case is plastic. Our test model is iridescent blue, while there are white and onion models.
In the center, I see a dual rear camera under the LED flash and just below the company logo (Realme). There is no fingerprint scanner on the back surface, as it is located below the screen. It works quickly and I did not notice any complaints during testing.
I should also immediately note that on the right side there is a slot for two cards and there is no slot for a memory card. On the same place, there is a power button.
On the other hand – the volume rocker is located.
At the bottom, there is a microphone, a loudspeaker, a USB Type-C port, and right there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The dimensions are 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1 mm and weight is 186 grams. In general, the build quality is good, but the plastic case is still not premium. Although plastic is more practical, as it will not break when falling on a hard surface.
Realme X: Screen
I was a little surprised that the AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.53 inches and a resolution of Full HD + 1080 x 2340 pixels (394 ppi, the ratio of 19.5: 9) was installed on Realme X in our analisis.
Also, note that the screen occupies 85.9% of the front surface and supports simultaneous touching (multitouch) at 10 points.
Although this is a middle-class device, the good news is that it has DC Dimming AMOLED screen technology.
This means that the screen will not blink even with the lowest brightness – it will well affect your view.
Realme models have excellent displays in their phones, and Realme X displays great content on the screen, the colors are vivid, the letters and icons are clear.
As for the screen brightness, we measured it with the help of our measuring device and received a rating of 430 lux, which is more than enough for comfortable use.
But this is not comparable with Redmi phones, on their IPS screens the brightness is better, but the color rendition and contrast are better with Realme.
Realme X: Hardware and Performance
The processor is a little weaker than the Redmi Note 7 Pro, but still a very popular with Snapdragon 710. Obviously, Realme switched to a higher speed and implemented a much more powerful 8-core Snapdragon processor, developed using the latest 10-nanometer technology and manufactured in the second quarter last year.
The graphics are processed by the Adreno 616 and you have 4, 6 and 8 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal memory. Also, you can not expand the memory, so when you buy should pay attention to it.
As for the synthetic benchmark tests, they are very expected. As for its class smartphone, Realme X shows decent results. Below you can see the test results.
Since this is a relatively new processor, we had the opportunity to test it on only one device – the Nokia 7X. Judging from the test results above, the games should work fine on the average settings graphics.
The first game PUBG Mobile works quite smoothly, the device has low heat. I did not find any problems on the average chart. In general, other games such as Asphalt 9 work well.
If you are looking for a smartphone for gaming purposes, then Realme X is definitely for you.
Realme X: Software
Realme X runs on the Android 9.0 operating system on the ColorOS 6 user interface.
This model does not have a global version and the device is intended for the Chinese market. Therefore, the software for many markets is the main disadvantage of this smartphone. Therefore, it is better to wait for the global version or for entering the Indian market.
Realme X has pre-installed base apps, with additional apps like Chaines Shopping, Facebook, FM Radio and more.
Previously, we had the opportunity to test the devices on a Snapdragon 710 processor, so the smartphone worked quickly and smoothly, only occasionally noticed a slight slowdown, almost ignored, possibly due to the somewhat slower eMMC internal memory.
The smartphone has 4GB and more RAM, which is enough for multitasking.
Realme X: Camera
Both cameras are very good in this smartphone, although I have to admit and expect something more for this money is difficult. The main camera on the Realme X in the test has a 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. The second sensor has a 5 megapixel and f/2.4 aperture for bokeh effect.
Front 16-megapixel pop-up camera with f/2.0 aperture. You can also use the screen as a flash in low light conditions. Selfie camera supports face recognition.
Let’s also mention how the front camera captures FHD video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second in MP4 format.
The camera application has several modes, such as manual shooting, depending on the object (portrait, night, landscape, beach, etc.), although it works automatically. Yes, this is a kind of artificial intelligence, which Realme has been using in its smartphones for many years.
The main camera takes pictures perfectly. In our test, I used a camera from Google. Below you can see photos of Realme X and Xiaomi Mi9 SE.
With daytime colors, the quality of the photos is almost identical, but at night Realme has slightly brighter and clearer photos if you bring the object closer.
The rear camera also records video in 4K format with a resolution and speed of 30 frames per second in MP4 format. Gyro-EIS stabilization is available only at 1080p.
Realme X: Sound
Well, Realme did a good job on sound quality. The loudspeaker is on the bottom. The sound is strong and insightful, has depth and strength, while it is well above average. We tested the sound on a number of music files, movies and video games, there is no distortion of sound or the strongest distortion.
We also conducted tests on several of our test compositions with the highest quality FLAC and with the help of our measuring device we measured the speaker power (about 50 centimeters) at 83.2 dB, which is slightly above average. Strength, quality and depth, you will be more than satisfied. The sound quality is very reminiscent of Redmi Note 7 Pro.
Realme X: Communication
The smartphone, of course, supports the 4G LTE network, but since this is the Chinese version, in many countries the 4G network will not be available. Again, this is another major disadvantage of this smartphone and pay attention to it when buying.
The built-in additional microphone will improve the quality of the conversation. Our test model only supports Dual SIM cards. But there is no memory card slot, so another small drawback for the device.
Also in Realme X, there is no wireless NFC payment, which is a very negative effect for a modern smartphone.
When testing GPS, we found 25 satellites (17 actives) with an accuracy of 3 meters.
Realme X: Battery
In the new model Realme X, the battery capacity was set at 3765 mAh and supports 20W fast charging called VOOC 3.0. As for the charging speed, we tested the battery in several consecutive charges and discharges, this is what we got:
- 54% in 30 minutes
- 95% in 60 minutes
- 100% in 65 minutes (1 hour and 5 minutes)
In our durability test with a constantly lit screen-on-time (with 60% brightness), the battery worked for about 14 hours and 30 minutes, which in modern conditions exceeds on average about 10 hours. It seems that Realme still knows how to optimize battery consumption.
Realme X: Conclusions and Reviews
In fact, the new smartphone Realme X is an interesting device. If you compare it with competitors, then model X gives much more positive emotions.
The smartphone Realme X on 8-core Snapdragon 710 processor works quickly and without delay. In the same way, many will like the fact that it has a pop-up selfie camera, a frameless full screen, and a built-in fingerprint under the screen. These features rarely boast a middle-class smartphone. Another pleasant surprise is the battery, which seems only insufficient at first glance, which in practice turned out to be quite good.
One of the big surprises was the quality of photos with a Sony IMX 586 sensor at 48-megapixels, even in the dark, photos are almost perfect.
Although you should not forget about the shortcomings, such as the user interface with ColorOS 6, which has its own characteristics. Also, the lack of a global version does not make the device universal, as most languages and wireless NFC payment are not available.
Realme X: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can buy a smartphone Realme X at a price of $264.99 for a minimum configuration – 4/64 GB. But I would not hurry, because the price is a bit overpriced from the official and now not available global firmware.
In general, considering even the price for today – this is one of the most interesting options. Thanks to interesting features such as a pop-up selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner under the screen.
