Realme has managed to present a very interesting smartphone model that can easily compete with smartphones from the Poco brand. Today we will talk about another mid-budget smartphone called Realme GT Neo.
In this article, you can find out the main advantages, as well as the main disadvantages of the device. In general, is the new smartphone model from Realme worth your attention or is it better to purchase one of the proven Poco devices? You can find out about all these questions in a detailed and full review.
As for the cost, at the time of writing the review, the price tag on the Realme GT Neo was only $320 for the base configuration with 6 and 128 GB of memory. Naturally, the price tag will be slightly higher if you want to buy a smartphone with 8 and 128 or 12 and 256 GB of memory.
From a technical point of view, the new model of the GT Neo smartphone is very attractive. For example, the device received a new Dimensity 1200 5G gaming processor and a decent 6.43-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
I can also highlight the presence of such features as a 64-megapixel main module and a 4500 mAh battery with fast charging of 50 watts. In addition, the smartphone received the latest generation of Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and even stereo sound.
Thus, I propose to start my in-depth test of the new GT Neo and find out its main features in real life.

Unboxing and packaging
The device comes in unusual packaging, as for the Realme brand. This is a rather large black package, where the name of the device and the logo of the 5G network support are indicated on the front. If you remember, then the main color for Realme is the yellow color option, but this time the brand wanted to stand out a little.
I didn’t really like the dimensions of the package, as they are much larger than their predecessors and competitors’ standard sizes. But let’s open up and find out what components come our way.
The first thing that meets me after opening the box is a small white box in which there were a silicone transparent case, various instructions, and a needle for a SIM slot. Below you can see the smartphone itself in a shipping film and a Type-C charging cable. But behind the smartphone is a 65 W power adapter. But here I should mention that the maximum allowable power for fast charging was only 50W.
Design, build quality, and materials used
If the appearance and equipment left me with rather negative feelings, then the design of the new smartphone made me very happy. For example, the Realme GT Neo device received a very compact size, which was 158.5 x 73.3 x 8.4 mm. And the new smartphone model weighs only 179 grams.
It is, indeed, a small smartphone when compared to the devices in the Poco line. For comparison, the Poco X3 Pro device measures 165.3 x 76.8 x 9.4 mm and weighs 215 grams. But the Poco F3 is slightly smaller – 163.7 x 76.4 x 7.8 mm and weighs 196 grams. But even the F3 model cannot be compared with our today’s hero.
I think it’s easy to guess that the body of the GT Neo smartphone is made of fairly high-quality polycarbonate, both the back and the sides of the device. Yes, it may not be premium content, but it didn’t bother me at all.
I also want to highlight that the main area of the back panel is made of matte plastic. But from the camera module, there is a glossy path on which the company logo with its slogan is indicated.
As for the build quality, I did not reveal strong remarks, since all the elements were assembled well. In addition, I did not find any extraneous squeaks or sounds. Although I did not find any protection against water, as can be found on real flagship devices.
The right side of the GT Neo smartphone received one power button, but on the left side, there is a volume rocker and a slot for dual nano-SIM cards. As you might have guessed, there is no room for an additional memory card here.
Meanwhile, the bottom end has connections such as a Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, main speaker, and microphone hole. At the same time, only one additional hole for the microphone is located on the upper edge.
I said that the GT Neo model has stereo sound, so the second speaker was located at the top of the screen. This is an earpiece speaker and an additional speaker for stereo sound. In terms of sound quality, I did not reveal any special comments, since the maximum volume was with a good margin. Also, while listening to music, there was a good bass.
Screen and image quality
I’m glad most smartphones have stopped making hugely large smartphones, including screen size as well. For example, our today’s hero Realme GT Neo received a 6.43-inch screen with a Super AMOLED matrix. This is a pretty good screen, both in terms of color quality and its level of contrast.
As for the resolution, it was 1080 x 2400 pixels and has an aspect ratio of 20: 9. Due to the small screen size and insignificant frames around the screen, using the device was a pleasure for me.
Since this is an AMOLED screen, the presence of the Always-ON Display function did not pass by on the GT Neo model. Even in the screen settings, you can see sections such as night mode, dark theme, choice of colors, and much more.
If we talk about screen brightness, the maximum display brightness value was about 690 lux. For me personally, I could easily use the device in sunny weather and did not observe any problems with readability. But the noise when the brightness level is reduced appears quite significantly.
The last thing I want to talk about is one interesting feature, the refresh rate of the screen. The new GT Neo has a 120Hz refresh rate screen. As for my class of devices, I was very happy with this feature. Indeed, this option will allow you to get great comfort while flipping through pages on social networks or in games.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
Just like the screen itself, another important feature of the Realme GT Neo smartphone model has taken place in the performance of the device. The smartphone uses a completely new 6-nanometer processor from MediaTek called Dimensity 1200. This is definitely a flagship processor that can surprise you, both in real life and during synthetic tests.
This chipset received eight cores in its performance, where four Cortex-A55 cores operating at 2.0 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores – 2.6 GHz, and another Cortex-A78 core – 3.0 GHz. Below you can watch an album with various benchmark tests. In the Antutu test, the Realme GT Neo smartphone scored about 702 thousand points. This is a very solid result, but it is slightly less than the main competitor Poco F3, which scored 709 thousand points in the same test.
Responsible for the GPU is the Mali-G77 MC9 chipset. Given its good performance, any games will be available for no particular reason. I’ve been able to play games like PUBG Mobile, Call Of Duty, and Genshin Impact. The maximum graphics value was ultra-high. At the same time, I want to note that I did not find a strong overheating after a significant time in games.
I have a medium configuration version of the smartphone, that is, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The speed of the internal memory completely pleased me, since it uses the UFS 3.1 memory format. For example, the read speed reached 1500 MBps, and the write speed was about 500 MBps. But an additional slot for a memory card is not provided in a smartphone device.
Another positive thing I can highlight is the 6th generation dual-band Wi-Fi module and the fast and accurate operation of the GPS module. Also, the device received a module for contactless payment NFC. In general, there is everything on board for the full use of the device.
Despite the fact that I have a Chinese version of the smartphone, I did not find any special problems during my use. The smartphone uses the latest generation Android 11 operating system with Realme UI 2.0. In general, all the work on the user interface made me happy and I did not find any special problems.
Camera and sample photos
The main camera module on the new Realme GT Neo smartphone received a 64-megapixel Sony IMX682 Exmor RS sensor. In the daytime, I did not find any special problems with gelatinization and color reproduction. But in low light, photos also look good if you use night mode. Although, if you zoom in on the photo, you can see a few blurry objects.
The second camera sensor was created for ultra-high mode and has an 8-megapixel sensor. In general, the photos are of very good quality, but one cannot call them ideal either. The third sensor has a 2-megapixel resolution and is used for macro mode.
The front-facing camera on the GT Neo smartphone model was equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor. You can see examples of photos in the album below. Overall, I liked how the new smartphone model from the Realme brand shoots.
But I especially liked the video recording, for example, the maximum resolution was 4K and 60 frames per second. But electronic stabilization only turns on at 1080p and 60 frames per second.
Battery and run time
Battery life is also a factor to consider when choosing a smartphone. Therefore, Realme has installed a pretty good 4500 mAh battery on its smartphone.
As my practice has shown, with active use, the device was able to work for about 1.5 days. Yes, if you use your smartphone outside your limits, the battery life can grow up to 2-2.5 days.
But another positive side of the GT Neo is the fast charging function. The manufacturer has set the power to 50W, although the power adapter comes with 65W power. In 16 minutes, the smartphone was charged from 0 to 50%, but in 50 minutes, the device was charged to 100%.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Having just carried out tests, I can easily say that I really liked the new GT Neo smartphone model from Realme.
Naturally, I can refer to the main features like a high-quality AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The smartphone also received good performance thanks to the new Dimensity 1200 processor.
The quality of photos on the main camera turned out to be very good, given its low cost. But you can get smooth video only at 1080p resolution. Since 4K stabilization is not available.
On the other hand, finding a modern smartphone with sixth-generation Wi-Fi and even an NFC module is quite problematic. But Realme does everything for people and for its customers.
There are also drawbacks and this is a plastic case and a small screen noise at low brightness levels. Otherwise, the new model of the GT Neo smartphone turned out to be very good and I can easily recommend it for purchase.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, the price tag on the Realme GT Neo is only $321.59 with a 40% discount.
Compared with the main competitor Poco F3, then its cost will be about $350. Both smartphones have practically the same performance and technical part, but the price tag of the Realme brand is slightly lower than that of the Poco model.
