Realme has produced another model of a budget smartphone called Realme 7i.
Perhaps you can say that this is not a completely new smartphone model, as it was introduced back in December 2020. And yes, I totally agree with you. But I only recently managed to test this inexpensive 7i smartphone and believe me, I have something to share with you.
First, let’s take the cost of the Realme 7i budget employee. It will cost you just $140. Of course, this is not quite a budget device, which will not have a price less than $100. Although after brief technical characteristics, I was pleasantly surprised, and let’s talk about them.
For example, the device had an Helio G85 processor with 4 and 64 GB of memory. The smartphone also received a 48-megapixel main camera, a 6.5-inch IPS screen with a large 6000 mAh battery.
Agree that as for its price, the device clearly deserves its attention. Therefore, I propose to start my in-depth and detailed review to see all its advantages and disadvantages.

Unboxing and packaging
Naturally, like any model from Realme, the 7i comes in bright yellow packaging. On the front, there is only the designation of the model and company name. But on the back of the box, there is a sticker with brief specs and features.
Inside the package itself, I discovered that this is the smartphone itself with a protective film glued to the screen. Also, the package included instructions, a needle for a SIM card, an 18 W power adapter, wired headphones, and a Type-C cable.
As you can see, there is no protective silicone case included. But the manufacturer has completed wired 3.5 mm headphones. As for me, a protective case would be preferable to headphones. Therefore, you must use the device carefully or order an additional protective case from China.
Design, build quality and materials
Not surprisingly, the Realme 7i was made of a plastic case. Here you will not find any premium materials in your performance. In addition, Realme offers a choice of two body colors – gray and blue. I have a blue version on my review and this option looks quite attractive.
It is also worth noting that the back of the case has received a special engraving. It really looks beautiful and as the practice has shown, this drawing will be practical from unnecessary fingerprints or other abrasions.
I had no complaints about the build quality of the new Realme 7i smartphone model. All components were assembled perfectly and without any questions.
The rear panel of the device received three main camera modules with LED flash. Also in the central part is a round fingerprint sensor. It fulfills its job quite accurately and quickly. But the location is not entirely convenient. For example, I prefer the fingerprint scanner, which fits into the power button on the right side.
If you look at the dimensions and weight, then calling the 7i smartphone compact will be quite problematic. That is, the device received 164.5 x 75.9 x 9.8 mm and weighs approximately 208 grams. I think you understand that such a thickness and weight of a smartphone indicates a large battery capacity.
The layout of the buttons is standard, as on most devices from Realme. The right side of the model received a power button with a volume rocker. On the opposite side, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and a separate slot for a memory card.
Meanwhile, the bottom edge of the Realme 7i smartphone was equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, Type-C port, and one speaker. But there is nothing on the upper edge.
Screen and image quality
The front of the smartphone Realme 7i received a pretty good 6.5-inch IPS screen. Its resolution was 720 x 1600 pixels with an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The pixel density per inch does not exceed 270 PPI.
Realme installs such screens on most of its models, such as Realme C11, Realme C15, Realme C21, and many others. Therefore, it is definitely not worth expecting a wow effect here.
But I can’t call the screen quality bad either. This is a fairly typical display of average quality and does not cause disgust during use. At the same time, during my testing, my eyes did not get very tired and the viewing angles were quite wide.
But sometimes the contrast and maximum brightness were not enough. Since this is an IPS screen, not AMOLED. And the maximum brightness value was within 560 nits. Therefore, in bright and sunny outdoor weather, you will have problems with readability. I can also highlight the rather large chin of the frame at the bottom of the screen.
Performance, benchmarks tests, games, and OS
As you can see from the picture, the Realme 7i device was equipped with a MediaTek Helio G85 processor. This is a budget chipset that performs well in various benchmark tests.
For example, in the Antutu test, the smartphone scored 201 thousand points. This is a very solid result for a smartphone with a price tag of $140. Finding a more decent device from competitors will be problematic. You can find more benchmark tests in the album below.
A good graphics accelerator Mali-G52 MC2 works in tandem with the processor, which showed itself on the positive side in terms of games. For example, I managed to launch the PUBG Mobile game and did not find any particular problems during several batches of battles. At the same time, the device did not really heat up and had the operating temperature of the processor.
Also, onboard the smartphone has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory in eMMC 5.1 formats. Additionally, you can use a separate slot for a microSD memory card. But the speed of the built-in memory does not make me feel positive. Since the read speed was 310 MBps, and the write speed was 210 MBps.
Wirelessly, the Realme 7i smartphone received a dual-band Wi-Fi module, fast GPS signal, and Bluetooth 5.0. But the main disadvantage for me was the lack of an NFC module.
Since this is a budget device, the manufacturer did not bother with updating the operating system. The new model of the smartphone Realme 7i under Android 10 version with the user interface Realme UI of the first version is controlled.
This also does not cause positive feelings, as it will be problematic to wait for further updates. But that doesn’t mean that the user interface was performing poorly. Quite the opposite, all the processes were smooth and without any problems. The functions worked out quickly and in general, I liked the optimized operation of the operating system from Realme.
Camera and sample photos
The main camera module on the budget smartphone Realme 7i received a pretty good 48-megapixel resolution. You can see examples of photos in the album below. The quality of the photos was pretty good and as for a budget smartphone, I really liked the photo shots.
The second camera module received an 8-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.3 and a viewing angle of 119 degrees. As you might guess, this sensor is designed for ultra-wide shots. There is also a third sensor with a resolution of 2 megapixels and is used for macro shots.
The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels with an aperture of f/2.0. Yes, this is a budget camera module, so you won’t be able to get high-quality pictures on a selfie camera.
According to the camera application, everything is standard here. For example, here you can find sections such as photo, video, portrait, 48-megapixel, and others. You can also use 0.6x zoom, that is, ultra-wide mode, and enlarge the photo by 10x zoom.
The maximum video quality for the main camera was 1080p with 30 or 60 frames per second. And the front camera shoots video at 1080p and 30 frames per second.
Battery and run time
Inside the case, the Realme 7i houses a fairly large 6,000mAh battery. Considering that the device received only 720p screen resolution, a good optimization of processes, the battery life of the smartphone will be very good.
That is, during my tests, the battery life of the device lasted about 2 days of active use. This is a very solid indicator for its class of devices. Yes, if you play games often, then you should not expect a lot of battery life. But also, if you do not load your smartphone so much, then you can achieve 3 days of work.
Charging via the 18W adapter took me just over 2 hours via the Type-C connection.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Once again, Realme proves its quality with another new model of the 7i budget segment.
On the positive side, I can single out – this is a fairly high-quality assembly and good materials used. For example, although the case is made of plastic, it is not easily soiled and does not collect fingerprints.
I also liked the performance of the new budget device, which showed excellent results in the benchmark tests. Playable abilities did their job well as well.
In addition, the camera showed itself very surprisingly well, both in the daytime and at night. But the battery life can be the envy of any state employees of this valuable segment.
The disadvantage I can attribute is the lack of an NFC module, a rather budgetary HD screen, which is installed on most products from the Realme brand. I also did not like the fact that the device, although it is in 2021, is controlled under Android OS version 10.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, the price tag for the Realme 7i smartphone has a very sweet value. For example, you can purchase the device for only $137.15 with a 46% discount.
If you are looking for a really good and high-quality smartphone at other times, then the new model from Realme will definitely surprise you.
