Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 vs Snapdragon 630: What is batter?

With the Snapdragon 660 and the Snapdragon 630, Qualcomm has presented two new mid-class SoCs this morning. First devices with the processors can still be expected towards the end of the second or third quarter.

Snapdragon 660

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 is the new top model of the 6xx series, which is supposed to inherit the Snapdragon 653. The CPU is based on two quad-core clusters each with four Kryo 260 cores, which clock at 2.2 and 1.8 GHz, respectively. In the GPU, Qualcomm is offering a small upgrade to the Adreno 512, which should increase the graphics performance by 30 percent. The improvements in CPU performance are reported as 20 percent.

Snapdragon 630

The Snapdragon 630 is located below the Snapdragon 660 and is promoted as a successor to Snapdragon 626. Two quad-core clusters, based on ARM’s big.LITTLE technology, are again installed here, but Cortex-A53 CPUs are used instead of the in-house cryo cores. With 2.2 reps. 1.8 GHz clocking, they enable together with the Adreno 508 GPU a production up to 30 percent.

Apart from the pure production values, there are only a several differences between the new Snapdragon 660 and the modern Snapdragon 630. For example, both SoCs work the similarly Spectra 160 graphics processor, which can, among other things, deal with dual cameras and enable zooming at different focal lengths. The processors also have their production in the 14nm process as well as the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem

Last but not least, the quick charge standard QuickCharge 4.0, as well as the support for Bluetooth 5.0, are on board.

According to the Company by Qualcomm, the new and modern processor Snapdragon 660 is presently available for the manufacturers, so we will probably see the first devices at the end of this part. The new processor Snapdragon 630 will not be ready to sell until the end of the month, so we have to wait a little longer.
