One week ago, we received the highly stable, waterproof and dust-proof Poptel P10 in our review.
The rugged smartphone is quite considering the big 5.5 inch 18: 9 and HD display, the 3600mAh battery and the other specifications.
Poptel drives a lot according to the datasheet, but if the rugged smartphone has also passed our tests, you will learn here in the test.

Poptel P10: Design and Appearance
From a purely visual point of view, the Poptel P10 in our analisis as a rugged smartphone is undoubtedly a feast for the eyes.
We received the black version and were in love from the first sight. At the forehead and chin area, the smartphone is about 11.9 mm thick but tapers towards the middle to about 10mm.
If you measure in the metal frame on the side, it comes to about 8mm thickness. The relatively non-slip and with a little cooler back is rounded in addition to the edges.
So, that the Poptel P10 looks even thinner optically. The back itself houses the single camera, a fingerprint sensor, and the dual LED flash.
Poptel P10 has 205g and is certainly a lightweight, and still one of the lightest rugged percentages smartphones.
The left side has the dual SIM slot or micro SD slot (hybrid). Here the user can either use two Nano SIM cards or a Nano SIM plus a Micro SD card.
On the right side is the power button and above the volume rocker. The monaural speaker has been installed on the back and in the middle of the bottom is the MicroUSB connector with 3.5mm audio jack.
Apart from the display, the front also has a front camera, an LED flash, the earpiece and a colored status LED.
Processing errors or weaknesses on the housing, we could not determine. The Poptel P10 is barely bendable even with great effort.
All buttons sit bombproof in the case and therefore do not rattle. Likewise, the Poptel P10 has survived a night in the freezer, was exposed to direct sunlight for several hours on the beach and was allowed to several baths “to cool down.” We can confidently believe the IP68 certification.
Poptel P10: Display
The Poptel P10 uses a 5.5 inch HD IPS display in 18: 9 format, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
Unfortunately, Poptel does not specify which generation of Gorilla Glass will be used. The colors and the contrast cannot compete with an AMOLED, but are far from bad, with colors are not very intense.
The sharpness is in turn good and individual pixels are not visible. The viewing angle stability is also good because the screen content can also be read at 90° tilt. Only the brightness is reduced a bit.
Nevertheless, Poptel would have been well advised to include Miravision as a configuration option for colors and contrast, as the previously mentioned color weakness could have been easily corrected if necessary.
Regardless, the maximum brightness is at a good level and sufficient for outdoor use. The 5-point touchscreen also has no weaknesses.
The surface is smooth and the finger glides effortlessly over the glass. The latter is easily repellent and fingerprints can easily be wiped off the t-shirt.
Poptel P10: Hardware and Performance
For a rugged smartphone, the Poptel P10 in the test has neat performance under the hood. An Helio P23 (MT6763) SoC with a 4x 2GHz and 4x 1.5GHz fast Cortex A53 CPU is used.
On the other hand, the integrated ARM Mali-G71 MP2 graphics are less pleasing, as they quickly reach the limit of their load in current games. The CPU is supported by 4GB LPDDR4X and 64GB of memory.
All the more gratifying are then the news regarding the internal memory because this need not hide with a read rate of about 279MB/s and a write rate of 210MB/s.
In addition, the internal memory via Micro SD card can be expanded by up to 64GB.
However, you do not use the Dual SIM capability because a hybrid slot is used. Unfortunately, the Micro SD slot is very slow in write access.
In everyday life of Poptel P10, these values result in sufficient performance to occasionally play games without high demands, to watch videos and of course to do moderate multitasking.
Apps run pretty smoothly and so quickly brings the Poptel P10 nothing to stutter. In Antutu we reached about 77.000 points. A game like WoT Blitz can be played smoothly at medium levels of detail.
Poptel P10: Software
The Poptel P10 ships with stock Android and is based on Android 8.1. The security patch is reasonably up to date at the time of testing and dates from April 2018.
The system is at least theoretically kept up to date via OTA. Theoretically, because Poptel has proven to be very unreliable in this respect in the past.
There are devices that never get an update, while others get a few updates after all and others are even regularly updated.
Poptel P10: Connectivity
At the reception, there is nothing to criticize at Poptel P10. LTE Volume 20 is supported, as well as VoLTE. The reception is always perfect and was in our test even in rooms mostly at 100%.
The WLAN module supports the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band, but only the standards a / b / g / n. More than 100Mbit cannot be achieved in real terms.
In the download, we reached in the 5GHz band about 93Mbit/s and in the 2.4GHz band after all 38Mbps. A distance of 5m to the router does not change the throughput rates. The average PHY rate is 149.6 Mbps.
Navigation is also possible without any problems. Although only 11-13 satellites are included in the dry test, in practice this did not lead to navigation problems.
The coupling via Bluetooth 4.0 was also error-free and relatively quickly from equip.
The user is also available NFC, which should also work with Google Pay thanks to Google certification.
Poptel P10: Camera
Poptel relies on a single front and the main camera in the Poptel P10. According to Poptel, the main camera has a 13MP Sony IMX 135 sensor, the front camera has an 8MP sensor.
Close-up and macro shots with good lighting are something to be proud of. Overall, one can be satisfied with the picture result.
In school grades, we would just give the Poptel P10 such “satisfying” landscape photographs are muddy and rushing. The colors often suffer from a blue cast.
The HDR mode tends to over-exposure now and then, at least if the Sun comes from the side or from the front.
Low light shots can be seen halfway, as long as some sunlight is still available. Take a look at the evening pictures with the car and the sunset.
Really bad is the photo but then at night or indoor shots with artificial light. We have not seen such miserable pictures for a long time. Images with lightning work well, as long as the distance is not too high.
The video quality of the main camera is underground, although the resolution of both the main and front cameras is Full HD.
It is striking that the front camera makes better video footage than the main camera. The sound quality is also not very good and the audio track too low. The autofocus of the main camera usually works correctly.
Poptel P10: Battery
The Poptel P10 uses a 3600mAh battery. Unfortunately, we were not able to measure the external capacity externally, because charging only works when the smartphone is switched on.
The screen-on time is on average 10 hours at the auto brightness. A use of 2 to 4 days, depending on the type of use, so nothing is in the way.
A full charge lasts about 3 hours on standby, but we were only able to do this test once during our trial period of one week, as the Poptel P10 is so persistent.
Poptel P10: Conclusions and Reviews
The Poptel P10 can convince in many areas and is basically a harmonious rugged smartphone with a stylish design and relatively compact dimensions.
The protection against water, which also allows the complete immersion, as well as NFC, are nice additions.
The biggest weakness of the Poptel P10 is, as so often the camera. For real photography, the smartphone is useless. Also, the battery could be better, since now the 3600mAh battery is not enough for the rugged phone.
Away from that, however, the Poptel P10 is a solid rugged China phone, so you can at least give those a buy recommendation that put no value on a good camera and battery.
Poptel P10: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
At the moment you can already buy a Poptel P10 phone at a good price for only $189.99 from 20 to 26 AUG. It will be a good rugged phone, but as for the specifications, it is weak. If you really need a stylish and compact rugged phone, then this will be a good choice.
