Today I have to review an interesting model of a rugged smartphone, which is called Oukitel WP9. From Oukitel, you can often find rugged devices. But how the new device will show itself in real life, you can find out in the full review below.
Therefore, in this article, I will tell you a lot of details about the device, as well as talk about the main advantages and disadvantages. But I think many people are interested in the price and cost of a smartphone, so let’s talk about it in more detail.
Currently, the price tag for Oukitel WP9 is $185 and as for a secure device, this is a good price. As for the technical features, the smartphone also turned out to be very exciting.
For example, the smartphone was equipped with a 5.86-inch screen with HD+ resolution. Responsible for the performance is the Mediatek Helio P60 processor with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
In addition, the smartphone has a built-in battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh. In addition, there are triple main camera modules and many other features. Therefore, I suggest starting my detailed and in-depth inspection of the device from Oukitel.

Unboxing and packaging
A rugged smartphone is delivered in a rather familiar package, as for Oukitel. It is a large white box with only the brand and model name on the front. But on the back, there were stickers with technical features.
Inside the box, I found the following components – this is the smartphone itself on the left side of the package. On the opposite side, there were such components as a 24W power adapter, a Type-C format cable, and documentation. Also under the smartphone, there is a needle for a SIM tray.
Considering that most rugged smartphones have a large set of various accessories, Oukitel disappointed me a little. Therefore, let’s check the workmanship and build quality of the new model of the protected device.
Design, build quality and materials
Naturally, the first thing you pay attention to when you take the Oukitel WP9 smartphone in your hands is its weight and dimensions. For example, the dimensions of a rugged smartphone from Oukitel were 156 x 76.9 x 19.5 mm, while the weight was about 320 grams.
Therefore, using the smartphone with one hand was a bit problematic for me. But do not forget for what purpose this particular model of the device was created. So, the large size and weight speak of good and high-quality manufacturing materials, and let’s talk about them in a little more detail.
The WP9 was made from a combination of materials such as rubberized plastic and aluminum. It can be noted here that the frames of the smartphone were made of aluminum, just like the mechanical buttons. In addition, the side ends received good fall protection thanks to the rubber bumpers. This will really have a positive effect during falls or other troubles.
At the same time, if we talk about the quality of execution and assembly, then I did not find any special complaints. All components were perfectly matched and I did not reveal any extraneous squeaks and noises. Since this is a rugged smartphone, there is protection against water, dust, and drops. This is the most common IP68 standard in which you can easily submerge the device underwater or drop it from a height of 1.5 meters.
On the back of the WP9 rugged smartphone, you can find triple main camera modules with a large LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. Also on the same surface, there is a company logo and designations of the built-in NFC module. I will talk about the last module a little later. There is also one speaker at the very bottom of the case.
Okay, now let’s talk about the bezels of the smartphone. The right side of the device received the buttons familiar to me – the power button and the volume rocker. But on the left side, there are two additional buttons that you can configure to quickly launch certain applications. On the left side, there is also a cap under which there is a combined SIM slot for dual nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and a MicroSD memory card.
The bottom end of the Oukitel WP9 smartphone received a Type-C power connector, which was also hidden under the flap. But on the upper edge, there is a 3.5 mm jack with a covered flap. Thus, I can draw a small conclusion that the device is really well protected from water since all external connections are well protected by plugs.
Screen and image quality
On the front of the case of the rugged smartphone Oukitel WP9, a 5.86-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels was installed. At the same time, the screen ratio was 19: 9, and the pixel density per inch did not exceed 287 PPI.
In a word, this is the most typical budget screen that can be found on most rugged models and not only devices.
When it comes to maximum brightness, 380 nits is not the highest in its class. This means that using a smartphone in sunny and bright weather will not be particularly comfortable.
In the screen settings, there are no remarkable functions, since this is the most common IPS matrix with a five-touch sensor.
It’s also worth talking about the frames around the screen, which turned out to be quite large here. The top bezel has a large cutout under which there is a camera for selfies, an earpiece, and indicators for the latest notifications.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
The Oukitel WP9 rugged device uses an old but time-tested mid-range processor. This is the Mediatek Helio P60 with eight cores. There are four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. This chipset was built using 12-nanometer technology and is currently rarely used in modern smartphones.
As usual, I want to keep a photo album of some benchmarks. Where you can analyze the results and compare them with your device or competitors.
In terms of gaming ability, the WP9 smartphone is even capable of running advanced and heavy games. For example, I was able to play PUBG Mobile and the game worked pretty smoothly, but remember that at low settings the graphics level. At the same time, I will mention that the graphics processor Mali-G72 is responsible for the graphics.
Another interesting feature is the presence of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Yes, the built-in memory may not be the fastest, but it will be enough for everyday use for most users.
Among other features, the rugged smartphone stands out for the presence of wireless communication. This is a dual-band Wi-Fi module, a fast GPS signal, and there is even an NFC module for contactless payment. Naturally, there is Bluetooth 5.0 version and the device only supports a 4G network. Absolutely all functions worked fine and I did not find any major problems during my testing.
Now some information about the user interface. The rugged Oukitel WP9 smartphone runs under Android 10 OS and has a familiar, almost clean user interface. Several third-party apps can be found here – this is the tool bag. This app will be useful for builders as it includes many different measuring tools such as level, plumb lines, and more.
The user interface itself was pretty fast and snappy. Moreover, this is a completely global firmware, so you definitely will not encounter language difficulties. In general, I have no special comments on the operation of the operating system. Except for one, this is how often the device will receive updates, and will there be any?
Camera and sample photos
The manufacturer Oukitel installed triple main camera modules on the WP9 rugged smartphone. At the same time, the main camera module received a resolution of 16 megapixels, but the rest of the sensors do not inform us about any resolution. But the second and third modules of the main camera were intended for bokeh and macro modes.
The selfie camera received a resolution of 8 megapixels. The quality of the photos that were taken with both the main and front cameras can be seen in the album below.
There is a fairly large list of features in the camera application, and let’s talk about each in more detail. In the application, I found such modes as video, photo, monochrome, beauty, bokeh, macro, and more. At the same time, the video shoots at a maximum resolution of 1080p and 30 frames per second on the main camera, and only 720p on the selfie camera.
Battery and run time
The main feature of the Oukitel WP9 rugged smartphone is its large built-in 8000 mAh battery. This is a really huge battery capacity, which is capable of providing a decent battery life for the device.
As my practice has shown, the power consumption of the device was very low. This is given that the smartphone has only HD+ screen resolution and even more so the small size of 5.86 inches. Therefore, during my testing, the smartphone worked for a full 2.5 days with very active use. I think that in 3-4 days of normal use you will definitely be provided.
But the charging time through the 24W power adapter was about 3 hours and 15 minutes. Do not forget that charging a rather high battery capacity will be a lengthy task. It is also worth noting that the smartphone can be used as PowerBank since the OTG function is supported.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
During my long and detailed testing of the new model of the rugged smartphone Oukitel WP9, I was left with good emotions.
Yes, it is possible that the WP9 model is practically indistinguishable from its main competitors. Since the appearance is very similar to each other and the device has a fairly typical design and construction.
But on the positive side, I can point out that the smartphone from Oukitel has received many interesting features. For example, this is a large number of additional application shortcut buttons. I also liked the large and rather bright flashlight on the back of the smartphone.
Considering its purpose and cost, I also liked the performance and a large amount of memory. In addition, the NFC module will allow you to pay for your purchases in a contactless way, and this is a really nice feature. Even the battery life will only delight the future user.
Of the negative aspects, I can single out – these are the large dimensions and weight of the device, especially its thickness. Also, the smartphone does not have a high-quality Full HD screen, and the camera does not really stand out for its capabilities.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can purchase and buy a rugged smartphone Oukitel WP9 at a good price for only $186.99 with a 45% discount.
Therefore, if you have been looking for an inexpensive and interesting model of a rugged smartphone with good battery life and NFC addition for a long time, then the model from Oukitel will be a good choice.
