Another protected smartphone I have today is on the test from the Oukitel company. Yes, maybe I often started testing rugged smartphones, but I’m interested in them and I think the same for you, right? Today I am planning to tell you in this in-depth review about a device model called Oukitel WP17.
Earlier, you could read my other devices from Oukitel, if not, then I will leave a link to the tests here. On my test, the new model of the smartphone stayed for about 1 week and believe me, I have something to tell and share with you.
Therefore, if you want to know not only the technical specs of the device, but also how the smartphone has shown itself from a practical point of view, then this review will be useful for you. Also here I will share with you various benchmark tests, show examples of photos taken with a smartphone and demonstrate a battery test and much more.
If we talk about the cost, now, everyone can purchase a secure Oukitel WP17 smartphone at an interesting price. Namely, the official cost of the smartphone was only $229.
Yes, maybe the device from Oukitel does not support 5G, but there are some pretty good features here. For example, the rugged smartphone received a good Helio G95 processor with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Also on board the device has a 64 megapixel main camera module and a large built-in 8300 mAh battery.
In addition, the Oukitel WP17 smartphone received an interesting design, which does not look like a rugged device at all. The device also has a large 6.78-inch screen with 90 Hz refresh rate and Full HD + resolution.
Definitely, given its cost, I am very interested to know what a rugged device from Oukitel is capable of this time. Will a smartphone have many disadvantages, and in general for whom such a device is suitable. We will talk about all these issues in this detailed and in-depth review.

Unboxing and packaging
The new rugged device is delivered in a typical large white package, like other smartphones from the Oukitel brand, among other things. In this case, on the front, there is only the name of the company and model. But on the back of the package, you can find a sticker with the main technical specs.
In the packaging itself, I managed to find this smartphone itself, which was pasted over with a protective transport film. The package also includes an 18W power adapter, a Type-C charging cable, a quick guide and a SIM tray needle.
That is, the package bundle was standard and here I did not find any unnecessary and extraneous accessories. But do not forget that this is a rugged smartphone, so you do not need a protective case. Although is it so? Let’s talk in more detail about the design features and materials used.
Design, build quality and materials
You can choose from one color option for the new model of the rugged smartphone Oukitel WP17 and this is in dark blue. In fact, it is very unusual to see that a rugged smartphone has received a protective glossy glass. This is a bit odd, as I think the glass can crack easily if dropped and it will be a very big nuisance.
Although on the other hand the glass is protected from falling and most likely even if dropped, but from a low height, the device from Oukitel should withstand any impact. In terms of workmanship, I liked the build of the smartphone. All buttons had good responsiveness and feedback, in addition, the device did not emit extraneous sounds and squeaks during my test.
If we talk about the degree of protection, the Oukitel WP17 smartphone has received full protection from water, drops and even dust. This is standard IP68, IP69K and even American military protection. At first glance, not everything is so bad, but in practice, after immersion in water or sand, my copy of the smartphone worked well and without any problems.
On the back of the device, there is an island of three main camera modules and five LED flashes. Therefore, as far as the flashlight is concerned, here you will definitely not have any problems. Also, on the same side, there is one speaker, which did not have the best location. But he played quite loudly and sounded good. Although the sound quality of the low frequencies, and especially the bass, was not very good.
The bottom edge of the Oukitel WP17 smartphone received a flap, under which the Type-C and a headphone jack were hidden. It was very strange for me to see a 3.5 mm headphone jack on a rugged smartphone, since such a jack was usually absent on most devices that I was able to test before. At the same time, there is only one microphone hole on the upper edge of the device.
If you look at the right and left ends, you can see a gray metal insert. This will give the design of the smartphone even more strength. In addition, you may notice that the corners of the device have rubber elements, which will have a positive effect during a fall or other trouble.
On the right side of the WP17 device, a volume rocker with a power button and a built-in fingerprint scanner was installed. At the same time, the scanner worked out quite positively and I had no particular complaints about the accuracy and speed of response. But on the left side of the smartphone, there is a full slot for dual nano SIM cards and one microSD memory card.
I also want to talk about the dimensions and weight of the smartphone, since these parameters are influential when choosing. For example, the dimensions of the Oukitel WP17 were 176 x 83 x 15 mm, and the weight was about 320 grams. This is a rather heavy and massive smartphone, but do not forget that it belongs to rugged devices.
Therefore, the weight and dimensions will be more than that of an ordinary typical smartphone. Also, using the device was not very comfortable, especially with one hand. But after one week of testing, I began to get used to the dimensions and weight, and it was even very convenient for me to use the device, as for everyday use. Now let’s talk about the screen and its features.
Screen and image quality
On the front side of the Oukitel WP17 smartphone, there is a large 6.78-inch screen with a Full HD + resolution or 2400 x 1080 pixels. This is a standard IPS screen, but in the settings I found information about a 90 Hz frame rate. That is, here you can choose the screen frame rate from 60 or 90 Hz. The smoothness of the screen was good and the user interface performed well.
If we talk about the maximum brightness value, then it was in the range of about 480 nits. This is not so much, but as practice has shown, it was a pleasure to use the device even outdoors.
Among other features, I can highlight the presence of bright and saturated colors. That is, the screen of the rugged smartphone displayed fairly saturated colors, despite the fact that a standard IPS matrix was used here.
At the same time, in the screen settings, in addition to the brightness adjustment settings, I found such modes as night, font size, image scale and others. That is, it will be interesting to play with the screen, and in general I had no particular complaints about the screen’s operation. Now let’s discuss the performance and other features of Oukitel’s rugged smartphone.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
At first glance, you might think that this is a flagship rugged smartphone if you look at the exterior. But in fact, the Oukitel WP17 device was equipped with a simple Helio G95 processor, which doesn’t even have 5G support. But I cannot say that this chipset will be weak, since the benchmark test results were very good.
The processor is based on eight cores, where two powerful ones are Cortex A76 with a frequency of 2.05 GHz and six energy-saving Cortex A55 with a frequency of 2.0 GHz. At the same time, the techno process was 12 nanometers. Now let’s go through the synthetic benchmarks of various benchmarks.
For example, in the most popular test AnTuTu, the Oukitel WP17 smartphone scored about 325 thousand points. But as you can see from the result, the device warmed up to 41 degrees during the AnTuTu test and lost about 3% charge. And these are rather bad indicators, since there is a small overheating with a large loss of energy. You can also see other tests in the album below.
In terms of gaming capabilities, the integrated ARM Mali-G76 chipset is responsible for the graphics. It showed itself from a good side, as for a mid-budget device. That is, I was able to run a lot of demanding and powerful games. As a result, with all the tasks set, I did not reveal any special complaints. But there was a slight heating in the area of the rear camera, although not particularly significant.
On the other hand, the device received a large amount of internal memory with a volume of 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. At the same time, the read speed of the built-in memory was about 515 MBps, and the write speed was about 330 MBps. In addition, you can additionally use a slot for a microSD memory card.
As I said, only the 4G network is used on board the Oukitel WP17 smartphone. But during my testing, I did not reveal any special complaints about the quality of the connection. I can also highlight the presence of a dual-band Wi-Fi module with 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequencies. There is also Bluetooth 5.0 version, NFC and GPS support. In general, each sensor worked properly and did not cause any particular complaints in its work.
If we talk about the operating system, then the latest version of Android 11 is used on board the Oukitel WP17 smartphone. At the same time, the user interface was clean and did not have extraneous and unnecessary programs. After several days of use, I did not find any jams or freezes on the smartphone. That is, all processes and gestures worked smoothly and without any particular complaints.
Camera and sample photos
The main camera module on the rugged Oukitel WP17 smartphone received a 64-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. As practice has shown, the photos taken with the main camera module were very good. At the same time, there was good detail, both in good and in poor lighting.
As for the second camera module, it received a 20-megapixel resolution and was created for night mode. That is, this module took photographs in black and white. In addition, the manufacturer says that this sensor is capable of shooting in complete darkness with good detail. But as my practice has shown, the photographs turned out to be just black and white and I did not find any special detailing of dark objects. So I don’t see much point in using this camera and this photo mode in general.
And the last third sensor got 2MP resolution, and it was created for macro photography. You can see examples of photos taken with all camera modules in the album below.
I also want to talk about the front camera, which has a resolution of 16 megapixels and an aperture of f/2.0. At the same time, it is capable of shooting video with a resolution of 1080p, and the main camera with a resolution of 4K and 30 frames per second. In general, the camera on the rugged smartphone turned out to be quite good, but if you do not take into account the second and third camera modules.
Battery and run time
Inside the case of the protected smartphone Oukitel WP17, the manufacturer installed a battery with a capacity of 8300 mAh. This is a very good battery capacity, which proved to be positive from a practical point of view.
For example, in the PCMark Work 3.0 Battery test, the device showed about 15 hours of screen on. At the same time, I set the device with the maximum brightness level and 90 Hz screen refresh rate. This is a very decent result for its class of devices. That is, the device can work easily for 2 or even 3 days without recharging with active use.
In addition, the smartphone received fast charging with an 18W power adapter. But it took 4.5 hours to charge a device with such a large battery capacity.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Generally speaking, for the new model of the rugged smartphone Oukitel WP17, I liked it. Namely, its design and how it positions itself on the mobile device market.
That is, given that the WP17 model is rugged, it does not look like a smartphone that cannot be killed. Since a glossy protective glass flaunts on the back of the device. This is not the most familiar stuff in the rugged smartphone category.
At the same time, the tests for strength, the smartphone went well and left only positive impressions. Also one of the advantages I can highlight is the presence of a large screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate. I was also pleased with the high battery life, decent performance and many other factors.
Of the minuses, I can single out this incomprehensible 20MP night camera. Perhaps I misunderstood how to use it, but in the dark, the photos turned out to be just black and white. It is also worth understanding that this is a large and heavy smartphone, so using it after a regular device will be a little uncommon.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Now everyone can buy a new model of the secure Oukitel WP17 smartphone at a good price for $231.52 with a 42% discount.
This is a relatively low cost of the device, for which you get a lot of useful and interesting features. Thus, I can easily recommend this model from Oukitel for purchase.
