You can usually know OnePlus as a smartphone brand. But in fact, it has a list of other devices in her history, such as smartwatches and wireless earbuds. Today I have an improved version of TWS earbuds called OnePlus Buds Pro.
I have previously tested the first generation of earbuds from the OnePlus brand and they did not make much of an impression on me. Therefore, as the updated version of the earbuds will show itself this time, you can find out in this full review. In addition, today I will tell you about my emotions after one week of testing.
If we talk about cost, then the price tag has grown very much compared to the previous generation. For example, the OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds are currently priced at $130. As you can understand, the cost is very significant and therefore I will have very serious criteria when inspecting products.
As for the main features, then naturally, the flagship Buds Pro earbuds received modern features. I can refer to them as active noise cancellation and transparency mode. Also, the device stands out for its cute and ergonomic appearance with a premium design.
In addition, the earbuds received the latest generation of wireless Bluetooth 5.2 version with support for AAC and SBC audio codecs. I was also surprised at the IPX4 water resistance of the charging case, and the earbuds are IP55 rated. Also, the headphones were equipped with a dynamic driver with a size of 11 mm.
From technical features, the new generation of earbuds looks pretty good. But how did they perform in real life? Let’s check out a device from OnePlus in my full and in-depth review.

Unboxing and package contents
The OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds come in a fairly large box. At the same time, the box itself was made in a combination of white and red. This is a bright and youthful packaging that you will definitely turn your attention to.
On the front of the package, there is a drawing of earbuds and a charging box with the name and color of the device. And on the back of the box, you can find the main technical features and parameters of the device.
As you can guess, my version of the earbuds was created for the Chinese market. Although I do not think that the global version will be anything different from the Chinese one. Other than that, I liked the tight box and how all the components were packed inside.
For example, here I found the charging case itself with earbuds. Also included were instructions for use, a set of additional silicone ear tips and a Type-C charging cable. That is, all the components were of very high quality. So now let’s take a closer look at the design of the earbuds, will it be so good?
Design, build quality and materials
At the time of my ordering, only one earbud color option was available. As you can see from the picture, I have a black version. But now, the new OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds are also available in white. Of course, the choice of colors is not very wide, but I do not think that flagship earbuds can have other colors than black and white.
According to the materials used, the new version of the OnePlus earbuds was made from a combination of matte plastic and aluminum alloy. The earbuds looked very good in the ears and the design was ergonomic. Therefore, I could easily wear the device for hours without feeling much discomfort.
But do not forget that these are in-ear earbuds with silicone ear tips, so wearing more than 2 hours is not particularly successful. Although the weight of one earbud was only 4.3 grams, the earbuds are practically not felt in the ear canal.
I had no particular complaints about the build quality. All components were assembled with each other well and did not emit extraneous and unnecessary noise. Thus, wearing the earbuds was twice as pleasant, since the comfort of fit and the absence of noise did not cause much discomfort. It’s also worth noting that the device has been sweat and splash proof under the IP55 standard.
On the outside of the case of the OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds, there is a touch control panel. In addition, three microphone holes were installed in the earbuds. Moreover, each microphone performs its own function. But we’ll talk about the quality of the microphone during a conversation a little later.
On the inside of the earbud case from OnePlus, there are two magnetic contacts for charging and a proximity sensor. The latter functions as an automatic pause when one of the earbuds is removed from the ear canal.
As for the charging case, it was made entirely of matte black plastic. During my testing, the plastic itself did not leave any scuffs or scratches at all. Therefore, this is a good performance, but do not forget about its high cost, which was about $130. The name of the company was written in glossy letters on the lid of the case. In addition, there was one LED indicator on the front of the case, and a Type-C charging port was located on the back.
At the same time, the quality of execution of the charging case itself was very good. That is, the lid opened without a single backlash and was fixed in any position. On the inside of the case, you can see the seats for the earbuds and a button for pairing or resetting settings.
The charging box also received a Qi wireless charging method, but we’ll talk about this function a little later.
Connection, latency and touch control
The updated version of OnePlus Buds Pro also received a new generation of wireless communication. The device now has the latest version of the Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connection. The earbuds also supported the following codecs such as AAC and SBC. As you can understand, aptX codecs and other more advanced codecs are not used here. But during my testing, the quality of the connection was always stable and I did not find any gaps in the signal transmission.
As for the connection, the earbuds must be manually paired the first time they are connected. But the subsequent connection will be carried out automatically when the box lid is opened. Separately, they can work, but there are no multipoint on board.
In addition, OnePlus offers to install a mobile application called HeyMelody. It is available for both Android and iOS operating systems. As with most devices, the connected curtain will only be available for smartphones from the OnePlus brand.
The main application menu offers a typical list of features. Here I could monitor the battery level, switch ANC modes to ENC. There was a menu with headphone controls and even Zen Mode Air. In the last section, you could choose soothing music to release your anger or stress.
There is no game mode in the new model of earbuds from OnePlus, but I did not identify any particular problems with latency during my testing. For example, the game PUBG Mobile was comfortable to play, but there was a slight delay. But when watching videos on YouTube, there was no particular delay.
As for the control of the device, the onboard Buds Pro earbuds use adequate touch panel operation.
- One press produces the function of play, pause, and acceptance of a phone call.
- Double tap toggles the track forward.
- Triple-tap switches the track back.
- A short hold for about 1 second switches the modes from active noise canceling to transparent mode or music mode.
- A long hold will activate the Zen Mode Air function.
Sound and microphone quality
As I said at the beginning of the review, each OnePlus Buds Pro uses an 11mm dynamic driver. At the same time, the volume level margin was sufficient for everyday use. I would even say that listening to music at 100% volume level will not be very comfortable.
The low frequencies have a good volume of bass and the dynamics of the sound was very solid. Therefore, with low frequencies, I did not reveal any special problems during my testing.
Besides, I cannot say that the middle or high frequencies played worse than the low ones. At the same time, the sound quality was very good. For example, the detailing of musical instruments had good clarity and each instrument was played quite legibly and separately.
The ANC active noise cancellation function coped with everyday tasks very well. During its activation, the noise level of the surrounding world was practically inaudible and this had a very significant effect while listening to my favorite music.
I also liked the work of the transparency mode, which allowed me to communicate with people even with the music on. In addition, this feature will be useful in an urban environment, where you need to listen to the world around you for your own safety.
Okay, I also want to talk about the quality of the microphone. OnePlus has definitely done a great job with the new Buds Pro earbud model. Even in noisy places, my interlocutors heard my voice and what I said to them without any problems. But in a quiet place, even the most budget TWS earbuds do not have any particular problems with the quality of the microphone.
Battery and run time
A 40mAh battery was installed in each OnePlus Buds Pro earbud. But in the charging box, a 520 mAh battery was used.
From this I can draw the following conclusions that there should not be any special problems with battery life. But how did the earbuds perform on the practical side?
During my testing, the earbuds in normal operation were able to work for about 3.5 hours at 100% volume level. That is, the result is not the best, as for the category of wireless earbuds. In addition, with the ANC function active, you can still subtract one hour from this time.
Fast charging is available and for 10 minutes of charging the box, the device is able to get about 10 hours of music playback in earbuds. The earbuds were fully charged in approximately 50 minutes.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
A full review of the new OnePlus Buds Pro TWS earbuds has shown itself to be on the positive side for me.
For example, one of the advantages I can highlight is the presence of a modern Bluetooth 5.2 version. Also, the earbuds received a beautiful and most importantly premium design, given their cost. In addition, I liked the quality of the materials used in the manufacture.
Particular attention is paid to the presence of bright and dynamic sound thanks to the powerful 11 mm driver. The work of the modern functions of active noise cancellation or the transparency mode was also very adequate. In addition, I was very glad to see the good quality of the microphones even in noisy places.
Of the minuses, I can single out this lack of a game mode and not a particularly good indicator of the battery life of the earbuds. But the most important drawback for me was its cost, and let’s talk about it in more detail.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
At the time of writing and testing the OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds, the price was $129.77. This is a fairly large amount for this class of wireless earbuds.
Yes, maybe I can’t say that this is a bad TWS earbud model from OnePlus. But I believe that its cost should be within $ 90. Since there are many other devices that will be very similar in functionality and quality, and with a lower cost.
