Nokia X7: Unboxing and Packaging
We came to the review of the classic box from Nokia. On the front side, two hands are shaking and a smartphone frame, in the lower left corner is the Nokia X7 phone model.
On the reverse side, we see the main technical specifications, but everything is in Chinese since the Nokia X7 is designed for the Chinese market. But I’ll say right away that the smartphone supports multi-languages, so we didn’t have problems like with Xiaomi.
Inside the box, we found the following components: the smartphone itself in a protective film.
Under the phone, there is a needle for the SIM card, a silicone transparent case, an instruction in Chinese.
Also in a separate box, we found this Type-C cable and charging adapter with 18W fast charging.
As for its price, the equipment is standard and we are also pleased to see a protective case in the box.
Nokia X7: Design and Appearance
On the front side, the Nokia X7 got a 6.18-inch screen, and it is slightly larger than the Nokia X6. The dimensions of the new generation are 154.8 mm high, 75.8 mm wide and 8.0 mm thick.
Nokia X7 has almost the same dimensions as the X6 (147.2 x 71 x 8 mm). It weighs only 178 grams and, thus, even 27 grams lighter than its older brother!
Of course, the notch on the top of the screen is also used here as in the X6, but in the X7 the notch is much larger. In the settings screen, you can remove or leave the notch on top. More on this later.
On the upper side is a 20-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.0. Next, to it are various sensors. Of course, the Nokia X7 also has an infrared sensor for face recognition.
The bezels of the screen have become slightly smaller on the sides, and the bottom remained almost unchanged with the Nokia logo.
The white notification indicator should not be missing, but now it is on the bottom of the device, and not on previous devices.
On the back of the smartphone, which is completely made of glass, there is a dual camera 12 and a 13 megapixel sensor with LED flash. Nearby is a fingerprint sensor.
The back magically attracts fingerprints. After three times in the hand on the back were fingerprints.
Like the X6, the corners are rounded. As usual, the volume buttons and the power button are located on the right side.
On the left side, there is a slot for a SIM card in which you can install two Nano SIM cards. The SIM card holder is made of metal.
The side of the Nokia X7 smartphone is made of metal and it looks very beautiful in combination with glass.
Below is a Type-C (USB 2.0) port. Anyone who thinks that it can finally listen to the stereo because of the two grids will, unfortunately, be disappointed. This is still only a mono speaker installed.
On top, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and a noise-canceling microphone.
The design of the Nokia X7 in the test has a nice appearance, it fits very well in the hands and is easy to use. But a small drawback is the large notch on the front of the device.
In general, Nokia X7 is assembled very high quality and has premium materials on both sides of the glass and keep a metal frame on the side faces.
Nokia X7: Display
The display of the Nokia X7 has got a 6.18-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2248 pixels and, therefore, has a pixel density of 408 pixels per inch.
As already mentioned, the HDR10 display. The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and has an aspect ratio of 19: 9.
Approximately 81.2% of the case-to-screen ratio is not at all an outstanding figure in 2019. At the bottom of the screen, in my opinion, space is wasted.
The Nokia X7 in our analisis also has an IPS LCD display. It looks very good in my opinion. The bright colors and high contrast speak for the display.
In addition, it has a positive effect on battery life. If the display seems too bright, you can adjust the colors to your liking.
Also in the settings, you can find the mode of protection for the eyes and then the screen becomes yellow.
The viewing angles have positive sides and the screen brightness allows you to use your Nokia X7 on a bright sunny day.
Another important point is the permanently enabled HDR display. If this option is activated, the time and date are displayed continuously when the phone is locked.
Also, there are notifications from other applications. The background is black and the text is white. The brightness will be adapted to the appropriate ambient light.
Nokia X7: Hardware and Performance
Here for the first time the differences between the Nokia X7 and X6. Our hero has a new Snapdragon 710. This is an eight-core processor with a Cortex-A75 2 × 2.2 GHz and a Cortex-A55 6 × 1.7 GHz.
The processor is supported by the Adreno 616 graphics processor. If you prefer, you get 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The memory is sufficiently capacious 64 or 128 GB.
As for the data transfer rate. In our test, the Androbench application showed the following results 313 MB/s for sequential reading and 161 MB/s for writing.
That’s where the Snapdragon 710 should show good performance for what it can do. In Geekbench 4, it scores 1823 points in a single-core and 5829 points multi-core test.
In the Antutu test, the smartphone scored almost 168 thousand points.
The 3D performance of the Adreno 616 in the 3DMark Sling Shot Test is 2701 points.
Thus, the Nokia X7 results are on par with the Google Pixel 2 or Samsung Galaxy S8.
As for games or real-world performance? We launched several challenging games such as PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9. During our tests during the games, we did not notice any problems and delays.
We also started light games, and of course, everything works flawlessly.
After 1 hour of testing games, the temperature of the smartphone did not rise higher than 50 degrees, and the feeling of overheating in the hands was not felt.
Nokia X7: Software
As already mentioned, the Nokia X7 comes on pure Android One with a version of Android 8.1. Security patch level from November 01, 2018.
Since the Nokia X7 is designed for the Chinese market, we see several installed Chinese applications on the main page.
For us, this did not become a problem in the App Store, we downloaded Play Store and logged into Google. Also in the settings, we found many users interface languages.
One of the best features is the application duplication. Thus, the application can be used with different accounts, without the need to change the user.
Also in the settings, we found a large number of gestures that will help speed up the operation of the device with shortcut keys for opening applications.
In general, the operating system works stably and smoothly, during our testing we did not find any delays.
Nokia X7: Connectivity
The quality of communication during conversations is excellent. I was always well heard, and I could hear the interlocutor at any place.
Also, the Nokia X7 has dual-band WiFi, which is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac standards, and low-power Bluetooth with version 5.
The smartphone uses a dual GPS network. Only conventional sensors, such as A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDu and GALILEO, are installed here.
The first GPS test outside the building was super fast. 22 satellites were involved, and the location was accurate to 4 meters.
A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) is also supported. When downloading, I did not notice any problems, and I always reached the maximum available bandwidth. The Type-C and 3.5mm plug work flawlessly.
Nokia X7: Sound
The Nokia X7 has only a mono speaker, but there is a 3.5 mm audio jack.
I was not disappointed with the sound of the built-in mono speaker. It sounds quite clear and at the highest volume, we did not hear annoying sounds.
The headphones connected via the included 3.5 mm audio jack showed no problems. The music sounded very good.
Thanks to the A2DP patch, playback via Bluetooth is truly superb. There were no outages or interruptions and I did not notice any deterioration in sound quality.
Nokia X7: Camera
Here, like a modern smartphone, a dual camera is installed. The Sony IMX 363 Exmor RS large f/1.8 aperture sensor is enabled with a resolution of 4032 x 3024 pixels.
The CMOS sensor can record video with a resolution of up to 2160p at a speed of 60 frames per second and 1080p at a speed of 30 or an additional 120 frames per second.
The second sensor has a resolution of 13-megapixels and has an f/2.0 aperture. Both sensors are supported by a dual flash sensor. Like previous models of Nokia, the camera from the company Zeiss.
Features such as HDR, optical zoom, and face recognition are of course included.
On the front side, there is also a sensor with a resolution of 5120 x 3840 pixels. With a large aperture in f/2.0. Settings as always varied.
There is a portrait mode that makes the background blurred, as well as a panorama mode. For photo experts, there is a manual mode.
Here, the Nokia X7 shows its strengths. With enough light, the best image quality is achieved. If HDR mode is set to Auto, the user will get really nice pictures.
With its built-in phase-detection autofocus sensor, the sensors focus very well.
Since the built-in EIS (electronic image stabilization) does not always lag behind. The colors are bright and even illuminated to create great pictures. Below you can look at the quality of photos.
Nokia X7: Battery
The battery has a fixed capacity of 3500 mAh and this is more at 440 mAh than the battery of the Nokia X6. It also supports Quick Charge 3.0. It allows you to charge the battery Nokia X7 for 60 minutes to 70% of the charge level.
In the Geekbench test, the phone works for almost 9 hours. This is a great value for this price range.
As for everyday active use, battery life is enough for a full day. If the phone does not load games or movies, then it will work even 2 or more days.
Nokia X7: Conclusions and Reviews
The Nokia X7 in our review has a good performance with a Snapdragon 710 processor and 4 or 6GB of RAM.
I think that Android One is really good for a clean operating system. As for the modern smartphone, the Nokia X7 has a large notch at the top of the screen, but if it annoys you it can be removed in the settings.
The IPS display, of course, is distinguished by its super contrast and bright colors. In addition, very reliable equipment is installed here.
The beautiful photos can be made with the Zeiss dual camera with enough light. But also surprising is the performance of the camera in the range of low light. The front camera at 20 megapixels showed very good detail.
What about battery life? A regular user can easily count on the Nokia X7’s one day work. At the same time be able to play games without fear that the charge is not enough until the end of the day.
Nokia X7: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
The price speaks for itself. Nokia X7 with version 4/64 GB of memory can be bought for only $289.99. For this price, this is a complete package for a middle-class smartphone. The competition in this area is very strong.
The closest comparable is Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. It has the same price range, as well as a similar processor as AI functions.
But as for me, the Nokia X7 has several advantages in quality of design and operating system, so I recommend X7 for purchase.
