Many years ago I was a fan of Motorola, but today the company is not as strong as before. Motorola has many competitors, but the quality and price are not acceptable. A few days ago came to me to review the wireless earbuds Motorola Vervebuds 400. Maybe they can melt my heart to this brand? Let’s check in the full review!
Also in this article, I will share my opinion on the main advantages and disadvantages, sound quality and assembly.
The price of the new Motorola Vervebuds 400 earbuds was approximately $65. Is it overpriced and does it make sense to pay more?
For example, the main feature of the Vervebuds 400 model is an unusual charging case, small and compact earbud sizes, Bluetooth 5.0, IPX6 water protection and much more.
Although there are drawbacks given its price, about them a little later, now let’s look at the appearance of the package.

Motorola Vervebuds 400: Unboxing
Motorola’s wireless earbuds came to me in a fairly simple transparent box with a combination of red. On the front, you can see the charging case and earbuds, and just below the main features.
Inside the box, I was a little shocked, because the kit, except for the earbuds themselves, a charging box, six pairs of ear tips with different sizes and instructions, comes with a Micro USB charging cable for the charging.
The quality of the ear tips is not the best, and the presence of a Micro USB port at this price makes me very disappointed.
Naturally, the earbuds are branded, but my first acquaintance from them is negative.
Since for less money you can buy a much better combination of component quality, even with a Type-C port.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Design
Of course, the manufacturer made a big emphasis on the appearance of the Motorola Vervebuds 400. This applies to the charging case since the earbuds themselves are quite ordinary and made in the form of in-ear headphones.
The box has black matte metal and it opens like some kind of time capsule. It looks very fantastic and unusual. The build quality of the box is not the highest.
For example, the cover is a little loose, and the charging Micro USB port is located inside the case. Therefore, charging will be carried out only in the open state of the box lid. For me personally, this is inconvenient and I would place the charging port on the lower or upper end of the case.
Also on the opposite side of the charging port, there are four LED indicators. They report the level of the remaining boxing charge. The earbud seats have a magnetic connection. During the shake, the earbuds don’t fall out, which is already good.
Because of the shape of the case, I would not advise men to carry a charging case in the front pocket of their pants, as people might think of something else.
The earbuds themselves combine metal and plastic materials. They look very stylish and harmonious. Also, Vervebuds 400 sit well in the ear canal, they also do not bulge, but wearing them for a long time was problematic for me.
While playing sports, the Motorola Vervebuds 400 earbuds sit flawlessly in the ear canal and even during fast running they did not fall out.
On the outside of the Vervebuds 400 earbuds is a company logo, touch controls and LED indicator. To the plus, I can attribute that the touch control is very accurate and there were no accidental clicks. Of the minuses, the LED indicator flashes every 5 seconds and this is a little annoying.
On the side faces of the body is written the conicity of the earbuds – left or right. But the icons have small letters, so maybe you will stray sometimes.
The charging is carried out through the metal mesh of the sound guide. Therefore, if you want to install other ear tips, such as foam, then you will not succeed.
The build quality of the earbuds is very good, and the manufacturer also provided IPX6 water protection. You can easily go in for sports because the earbuds are not afraid of sweat or small splashes, but you can’t swim in them. I want to note that water protection only affects earbuds, but not on the charging case.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Connectivity and Control
The positive side of the Motorola Vervebuds 400 is the fact that the earbuds have a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection. But support for aptX codecs should not be expected, only AAC and SBC are on board.
I did not find any strong delays, and I also did not have a break in communication. In general, you can listen to music or watch videos on Youtube. But in games, a delay will be present, but this is a typical problem with many wireless headphones.
The connection is simple and easy, Motorola did not have to invent something new for its Vervebuds 400 model. First, you need to open the charging case, then go to the Bluetooth menu on the smartphone and connect to the earbuds. The next connection will be automatic when you open the case. In addition, the earbuds can work both in pairs and separately.
As for the control of Motorola Vervebuds 400, if you want to turn the earbuds on or off, you need to hold on any channel for about 6 seconds. One-touch – play/pause, and also accept/hung up. If you hold two seconds on the right – the next track, and on the left – the previous track. Double-tap on the right to increase the volume, and on the left to decrease the volume. Last, this triple touch is a call to a voice assistant.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Sound
In terms of sound quality, everything is complicated, since I connected various devices to the earbuds and the sound was always different. For example, with the pairing with the iPhone – the sound was very bass, and the mid and high frequencies are blurred. When I used Redmi Note 8, the sound was a little better.
I did not find any information on the size and type of driver that is installed inside the Vervebuds 400 earbuds. But according to my assumptions, this is a typical 6 mm dynamic driver.
If you compare the sound quality of the Motorola Vervebuds 400 and Haylou GT2, then the latter sound is much more balanced and transparent. But the price of Haylou is almost three times cheaper.
Therefore, the sound quality of the Vervebuds 400 is terribly tuned. But if you take earbuds for sports, watching movies, audiobooks, and podcasts, then the model might be good.
The microphone quality is average, and there’s no reason to expect good quality since these are earbuds and the microphone is not located in the most convenient place. Although for short phone calls there will be no problems.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Battery
The battery life of the Motorola Vervebuds 400 was about 3.5 hours. The battery capacity inside the earbuds is 45 mAh.
The charging case has a small additional capacity of 300 mAh. Therefore, you will be able to charge the earbuds full two times. The total battery life with the case will be about 11 hours.
It takes about 2 hours to charge the charging case via the Micro USB port.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Conclusion and Reviews
After spending several days testing the Motorola Vervebuds 400, I was left with a bad impression. The earbuds received a lot of negative aspects and given their price – this is not permissible.
From the pros, I can note that the Vervebuds 400 model has a beautiful and stylish appearance with a comfortable fit. The quality of the materials is at a high level, as is the assembly. Touch control is very functional and accurate.
But the sound quality upset me, the battery life on a single charge is low, the presence of Micro USB is generally not acceptable for such a price.
Motorola Vervebuds 400: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy Motorola Vervebuds 400 earbuds for about $65.99 and at a 50% discount.
The price of earbuds is very high and I assume that such a model would be relevant several years ago, but not in 2020.
