Smartphones with a bezel-less display are definitely the trend of the year 2017. However, there are only a handful of smartphones that offer this. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the iPhone 8.
Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, iPhone 8 etc. that sounds like a pretty high price range. A bezel-less display must, therefore, be quite expensive in production?
No! This is to prove to at least the MAZE Alpha X in our last review. The MAZE Alpha X also has a bezel-less display but costs about $200.[coupon title=”MAZE Alpha X 4G Phablet” url=”https://goo.gl/SxUCwi” code=”BUY HERE:” reveal=”true” image=”http://www.awaqa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/125-1.jpg” theme=”base red” description=”Price: $209.99

Can that be something for this price? What are the remaining features? Can the MAZE Alpha X convince in the reviews? Let’s find out!
MAZE Alpha X: Design and Appearance
When I took the MAZE Alpha X out of the box for the first time, I was very surprised when it came to the feel. But let’s start at the beginning or on the front.
The special feature of the MAZE Alpha X is, of course, the new 6-inch display. This sounds extremely big and that’s it! Although the Alpha X has only very small display edges, a smartphone with the 6-inch display is compact.
The MAZE Alpha X is a colossus that reminds me a bit of the Xiaomi MI MIX 2. Like the Xiaomi MI MIX, the MAZE Alpha X in analisis has little or no display edges above and on the sides. These are still a bit wider than on a Samsung Galaxy S8 but certainly on LG G6 level.
Only below the display is a fairly thick border, which, however, is used meaningfully. On this one is the front camera as well as the fingerprint reader.
But not only the front looks high-quality thanks to the almost rimless display. The frames of the MAZE Alpha X is made of aluminum, which feels comparatively thick and solid. The back, however, is again made of glass.
From the choice of materials so a really high-quality smartphone! This impression is also confirmed in the hand. The MAZE Alpha X feels gratifyingly valuable and massive, maybe even too massive. With 209g, the Alpha X is quite a chunk!
You have to like big smartphones so that the MAZE Alpha X is something for you!
Let’s go around the device. On the front, we find the 6 inches Full HD Plus display, an 8MP camera and the fingerprint scanner. By contrast, unlike the MI MIX 2, the MAZE Alpha X has an auricle on the front, defying the rimless display.
The speaker is, on the other hand, mounted together with the USB Type-C charging port on the bottom of the smartphone. The headphone jack is on the top and the three typical physical keys are on the right edge of the Alpha X.
Apart from the single camera with LED flash, there is nothing left to admire on the back.
MAZE Alpha X: Display
The most important thing about the MAZE Alpha X is certainly the display. But does this look good off the narrow edges?
At the MAZE Alpha X sets itself on a pretty classic 18: 9 Full HD Plus panel with resolutions 2160 by 1080 pixels, which is supposedly protected with Gorilla Glass 5.
Let’s make it short, the display of the MAZE Alpha X is good! Maybe even considering the price range very good!
Colors are very bright, the display looks extremely clear and contrasts are good too. However, the black one recognizes something the difference to “high end” IPS LCD panels. This looks not quite as deep black as for example in an LG G6 or a smartphone of a similar class.
Nevertheless, I have nothing to complain about here! For about $200, the display looks very good. Even the maximum brightness is perfectly fine.
Something that is not easy to measure is the “feeling”. The display of the MAZE Alpha X in this test simply feels very lively and “intense” due to the sheer size and the small display frames. It’s just something different than, say, an iPhone that has the better display but feels less plastic.
MAZE Alpha: Hardware and Performance
The MAZE Alpha X has the nail new Mediatek Helio P25. This is an octa-core of the upper middle class, which is combined in Alpha with a full 4GB of RAM.
Sounds not bad for a smartphone, which does not even cost 200 €!
But how much power is really in the Helio P25? To answer this question, let’s look at a few benchmarks.
The performance of the MAZE Alpha or the MTK6757 looks good! Depending on the benchmark, the MTK6757 achieves the same performance as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625/626.
Here, as is often the case with MediaTek, the MultiCore performance seems to be above average!
Of course, benchmarks are always something nice, but how a smartphone feels in everyday life is something else. What about the Alpha X in a review?
The smartphone feels in practical use as you could already expect from the benchmarks. Jerkiness or stuttering is not to be found. This applies to the user interface as well as to the standard apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Co. A really clear difference to high-end smartphones is hard to be found here.
Only when it comes to really challenging games, the Alpha X specs may come under some sweat. Of course, the standard games like Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Candy Crush are perfect. The vast majority of 3D games are easily playable, but it can sometimes come here and there to smaller stuttering when suddenly many effects occur, but this does not hinder the flow of the game actually. You can not expect more gaming performance in this one.
Especially as games on the large and beautiful 6-inch display also come into their own.
Where we are on the screen, how well can this be handled? In contrast to the Samsung Galaxy S8 or LG G6, the display of the MAZE Alpha X is relatively wide. Samsung and LG use a narrower but longer display to allow a better one-hand operation, this does not MAZE!
As a result, the smartphone feels a bit clunky and wide. Surprisingly, here is the thick bottom display bar a small advantage. As a result, the display is slightly higher in the hand and the lower edge is easier to reach.
By the way, MAZE is using a hybrid solution for the Alpha X is good for its low price as far as the navigation buttons are concerned. Basically, the Alpha has on-screen buttons, but the fingerprint scanner can also be used as Home or Back button, depending on whether you press this short or long.
The fingerprint scanner works well, by the way, to very good! My fingerprint is reliably detected and the tempo fits.
MAZE Alpha X: Camera
At the MAZE Alpha X in the analisis uses two camera modules and follows the trend. Bottom line, the camera resolves with 13 megapixels with an aperture of F2.2.
How does the camera work in practice?
Let’s start directly with the test images. As usual, these are done in auto mode and uploaded 1 to 1. Meaning there is no additional compression or post-processing. The images of full quality are loaded when you click, mobile users beware.
The camera is unfortunately not the strength of the MAZE Alpha X! Here, the image quality is more on the level of $150-180 smartphones.
Admittedly, the weather was not the best for some of my test shots (August, cloudy), but not so bad that this justifies such test images. The first thing that stands out is the poor dynamics of the camera. Pay attention to the sky, which has no texture or details in almost all pictures and is just a light mass.
Where we are just washed out, I had long no smartphone, where I had so many blurred and blurred shots. Why? The camera tries to keep the ISO value low at all costs, even if it means working with 1/30 second exposure time and ISO-56. Here it would have been much more useful to go to ISO 100 and work with a slightly faster exposure.
Especially since the ISO performance is okay. The MAZE Alpha X sometimes performs very well in low light, almost better than in cloudy weather.
Of course, the smartphone is not a low light wonder. For this purpose, the aperture with f2.2 is simply too small, just like the sensor.
There are quite decent shots to be taken with the MAZE Alpha X, especially in fair weather and in the macro range, but as soon as the light is “suboptimal”, the camera breaks down extremely.
However, this effect is nice at MAZE Alpha X. Objects which are in the middle of the picture are focused, above all else a blur filter is placed. The camera has only one purpose for the Alpha X to look good on paper.
The Full HD video mode is also hardly better than the stills. Again, the white balance and the colors are the biggest problems.
MAZE Alpha X: Sound
Let’s put it this way, should a good speaker in your smartphone be important to you, the MAZE Alpha X is not right for you.
The maximum volume is rather moderately good. For system sounds or even a Youtube video, the whole thing is quite enough, but a lot of web radio or the like you do not want to hear with the Alpha X, at least not on the built-in speaker.
The headphone output provides a solid standard quality. The Alpha apparently does not have a separate DAC or similar, which ensures a particularly good sound quality with large headphones. But with earphones or normal headphones, the sound fits perfectly.
The telephone quality is also “Okay”. I’ve heard better here, but that’s fine.
MAZE Alpha X: Software
MAZE Alpha X puts on Android 7.0. Here, the manufacturer uses a version that is very close to the standard Android.
There are hardly any software-side adjustments on the part of the manufacturer, which are visible to the user. The launcher is the standard Android Launcher and just in the settings, a few additional options have been added.
These can be recognized very easily. The MAZE Alpha X in the test can be put in any languages at the facility, only the “special settings” were not translated.
Here are options like Double-click on Wake or three finger screenshot. Nice additional functions, which can represent a certain added value.
Apart from the standard Google/Android apps, nothing else is preinstalled on the Alpha X software.
Accordingly, the free memory of about 52.1GB in my 64GB version also comparatively large.
MAZE Alpha X: Battery
The battery of the MAZE Alpha X is comparatively large with 3900mAh. However, the display with 6 inches is quite large, which drives the power consumption somewhat high.
So what does the battery life look like? The battery life is still neat. In my standard test with a bit of gaming, web browsing, social media, etc., I achieved around 6-7 hours of battery life at low to medium screen brightness.
For a smartphone with a 3900mAh certainly not an outstanding value, but in practice more than neat.
Most users will get along easily with the MAZE Alpha X is 1.5-2.5 days.
MAZE Alpha X: Conclusions and Reviews
The MAZE Alpha X is a cool and futuristic smartphone in our reviews, which is also not perfect!
The MAZE Alpha X convinces with its great display, high-quality workmanship, good battery life and strong performance.
Only the camera, and maybe the speaker, are not the yellow of the egg.
However, should you have fallen in love with the large and beautiful display and can overlook the shortcomings of the camera, the MAZE Alpha can be the right one for you.
MAZE Alpha X: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now, you can buy Alpha X for really low price only $209.99. The MAZE Alpha X definitely feels less like an about $200 smartphone and much more like a mid-range, if not high-end class![coupon title=”MAZE Alpha X 4G Phablet” url=”https://goo.gl/SxUCwi” code=”BUY HERE:” reveal=”true” image=”http://www.awaqa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/125-1.jpg” theme=”base red” description=”Price: $209.99
