LEAGOO XRover: Unboxing and Packaging
As you know that rugged smartphones are famous for their good packaging. This applies to the new model LEAGOO XRover.
We received a square black box with the name of the model on the front side and on the back of the main specifications of the device.
Inside the box, we found the following components: the smartphone itself in a protective film, a charging adapter with 9V/2A, a Type-C cable, an OTG cable, instructions in English, and even headphones.
In general, it is a good package for its price. Let’s look at the appearance of the XRover.
LEAGOO XRover: Design and Appearance
The design and quality of the XRover are characterized by a robust polycarbonate and rubber casing. The middle frame consists of an aluminum alloy. Two bolted metal straps make the smartphone even more resistant to twisting. Also, a plastic sheeting increases resistance to falls and scratches.
The rubberized back panel not only guarantees impact resistance but also protects against fingerprints. The screen protects itself from scratches with Gorilla Glass 3.
The rear camera is optimally located in the middle and not too close to the edge. The fingerprint sensor, located in the metal case at the back, works safely and quickly, in the same way as the face recognition supported by the front camera. However, this only works with sufficient daylight.
The speaker sounds through one of the holes in the back panel. Behind it is a membrane that does not allow water to get inside the smartphone.
The power button and volume control are located on the right. But on the left side is the PTT button. All buttons are easy to operate and have an elastic push. Using the SOS / PTT button, you can either initiate an emergency call or an application for a walkie-talkie.
On the bottom is the Type-C port with a closed cap. On the top of the 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones.
The dimensions and weight of the LEAGOO XRover in the test are 159 x 72 x 8 mm and 262.6 g. As for the protected rugged smartphone, the XRover fits very well in the hand and the thickness of 8 mm is a thin case for its class.
The manufacturer refers to the following certificates: CE, IP68, so the LEAGOO XRover smartphone can be immersed to a depth of 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes.
In general, the appearance and build quality deserve its attention for its reliability. LEAGOO XRover pleasantly lies in the hands and causes a positive impression when used.
LEAGOO XRover: Display
The LEAGOO XRover uses an HD + IPS matrix display and a size of 5.72 inches. With this size and screen size, pixels are not visible on the front panel.
Peak brightness values of 420 cd/m² in daylight or outdoors will be sufficient for everyday life. Automatic brightness control works quite continuously.
The touch screen with 5 touches of fingers can be operated conveniently. In general, this is a decent display with good viewing angles.
LEAGOO XRover: Hardware and Performance
The chipset MediaTek Helio P23 or MT6763 is a 64-bit system chip, which is similar to its predecessor. This processor is used in the initial class of devices.
The performance results, therefore, do not differ much from their predecessor.
LEAGOO XRover in our analisis received 6GB of LPDDR3 RAM with a clock frequency of 677 MHz and a large internal memory of 128GB. If this is not enough for you, then you can easily use the expansion of the memory card up to 128GB.
For everyday use, this performance will suffice, but if you want to play hard games, then only on low graphics settings.
Our tests showed the following results. In AnTuTu the smartphone scored almost 83 thousand points. As for the budget, a device is a good result.
GeekBench 4 we got 563 and 1643 points in a single core and multi-core test.
The Helio P23 is already a proven processor that has good performance at a relatively low price.
LEAGOO XRover: Software
LEAGOO XRover has an Android 8.1 operating system with a virtually pure Android.
LEAGOO XRover in our test has a Google security certificate and is regularly checked for malicious applications through Google protect.
Android security update from 10/05/2018. The device can be unlocked using a fingerprint sensor and face recognition.
User interface control is very simple and intuitive. During our tests, we did not find any delays or problems.
LEAGOO XRover: Communication
It is very important that a rugged phone has good communication in hard-to-reach places. LEAGOO XRover in our test has a fairly good connection during conversations, the interlocutor heard me without any problems. Similarly, the FM receiver reaches a good level.
The satellite system processes GPS and GLONASS signals. Location is determined very quickly and safely with a large number of satellite signals. Therefore, sensitivity and accuracy are very good.
LEAGOO XRover: Sound
The hole for the speaker is located in the back of the smartphone. The speaker volume reaches a high level (80 dB, distance 20 cm).
The sound quality of the speaker is more influenced by its resistance to water penetration (IP68, IP69K).
But the sound volume is very good, and at loud places, you will have no problems hearing the call or message.
LEAGOO XRover: Camera
The rear panel of the LEAGOO XRover has two sensors 13 and a 5-megapixel sensor. On the front side, there is a front 8-megapixel camera.
In the camera application, we see various modes of shooting video, photo, portrait, and panorama are called by dragging. Other settings, such as quality and resolution settings for photos and videos, HDR, flash, are also available.
For the front camera, there is only video, photo and beauty mode.
The image quality of the main camera is quite good in daylight or bright light. Autofocus works great.
At night, the quality drops significantly, but it is present in many budget smartphones.
LEAGOO XRover: Battery
The smartphone is equipped with a fairly capacitive battery of 5000 mAh. LEAGOO XRover worked with us during the tests for about 10 hours. This is an excellent result for a rugged smartphone.
For users who rarely use the Internet or GPS connection, then the battery life will be 3-4 days without recharging.
It is also worth noting that the adapter used is 9V and 2A. Therefore, fast charging and Type-C port will provide about 2 hours charge time from 0 to 100%.
