KUGOO introduced a very compact electric bike called the KUGOO B1.
Earlier, the Chinese brand KUGOO produces inexpensive models of electric scooters. After some successful models, it began to produce compact electric bikes.
Today’s our hero KUGOO B1 is on sale with a pretty attractive price tag of about $370. What to expect from an inexpensive version of an electric bike?
First of all, the B1 model is intended only for short trips, since the range was about 23 km. The electric motor power is standard as with most electric scooters – it is 250 watts. Another interesting feature is the small size and weight, which are significantly less than that of electric scooters.
I have been testing this electric bike for about one week and in this article, I will talk about the main advantages and disadvantages.
KUGOO B1: Specifications
|KUGOO Kirin B1:||Specs|
|Motor rated power:||250W|
|Wheel size:||12 inch|
|Battery:||6Ah Li-ion battery|
|Electric power cruising:||≤20km/h|
|Product weight:||15 kg|
|Product size (L x W x H):||102 x 50.5 x 94cm(Unfolded) and 102 x 20 x 72cm(folded)|
The device comes in a large cardboard box with dimensions of 106 x 21 x 65 cm and weighing about 19 kg.
Inside the box, I found a separate small box in which lay such components as a seat, instructions, power adapter, and rubber grip handles.
The bike itself was folded and completely wrapped in a protective bubble wrap.
The bike came to me good and delivery from China did not damage or scratch any components. Given its value and its purpose, I am fully satisfied with the configuration.
The first thing you pay attention to is its very small size. In the unfolded state, the KUGOO B1 received dimensions of 102 x 50.5 x 94 cm and 102 x 20 x 72 cm in the folded state.
As you can see, it is a rather compact and folding element only the steering wheel itself. But this does not make it cumbersome, for example, putting a bicycle in the trunk of a car will not be any problem.
Also, the KUGOO B1 bike will be a good helper for short-distance travel. Suppose if your home to the bus stop is more than 1-2 km. Then you can ride this model and easily take a bike to the bus with you.
Compared to an electric scooter, the B1 has a big advantage – it’s big wheels. The wheel size was 12 inches, and the standard wheel size for scooters is 8 inches.
Moving around the city will be much more comfortable and enjoyable since you do not need to always stand on your own feet. You can comfortably move around while sitting in the soft seat.
The disadvantage is the low reach of the seat, so the maximum height should not exceed 185 cm. If your height is greater, then it will not be comfortable for you to ride on a compact electric bike.
The frame of the bike is made of brushed black steel, which can withstand passenger weight up to 120 kg. It is worth noting that the bike received protection from IP54 water, so light rain will not be a problem.
In the central part of the frame is a battery with a capacity of 12 Ah. It is not removable and there is a charging port for the power adapter at the bottom of the battery.
Front and rear there are LED lights that will brightly illuminate the road in the dark. Naturally, the taillight will inform the drivers of the vehicle’s presence on the road and it will light red.
On the steering wheel is one rear brake handle. The manufacturer considered that it makes no sense to install brakes on the front wheels, maybe they are right. Also on the steering wheel, there is a power button, a bell, a cruise control button, and four battery level indicators.
The main feature of KUGOO B1 is its small size and weight. Therefore, the bike can be easily transported through the steps and transported by public transport. As for the assembly and materials used, I have no complaints against the manufacturer KUGOO.
Performance and Features
As I mentioned, the power of the electric engine on the KUGOO B1 was 250 watts with 480 rpm. Moreover, the maximum speed is only 25 km/h, which is not so much for a bicycle. But if you consider that this is a compact city vehicle of movement, then the maximum speed will be quite enough.
The range will be about 23 km and this figure will depend on external factors. Such as ascents and descents, temperature, and passenger weight.
When I first got on the bike, I was a little surprised by the dynamics. It accelerates quite sharply and quickly slows down. But I want to note that my city roads are almost all flat without ups and downs, so it’s a pleasure to ride.
I also notice one interesting point, the KUGOO B1 electric bike will not be able to stop on a very large hill. For example, if the degree of rising is over 15%.
But it could not do without negative aspects since the B1 model does not have pedals at all. That is, the electric bike works on the principle of an electric scooter. You will have only 23 km of range at a maximum charge level.
A full charge will take about 4 hours. Therefore, you can safely get to work, put the bike to charge, and at the end of the day drive home. Sometimes I did so, although the distance from home to office is about 15 km.
A convenient solution was the function of cruise control. For example, you do not need to hold the speed knob, but simply set the cruise control speed and move in a long straight line. To disable cruise control, you can press the brake or activate the cruise control button once.
It can also be noted that there is no LED screen on the steering wheel that would show speed, charge level and distance traveled. But the manufacturer made an alternative decision and you can use the application on your smartphone to monitor all the important indicators.
The application is called KUGOO which is available for both Android and iOS devices. The application connects to the electric bike through the built-in Bluetooth module.
In the main menu of the application, you can see information such as a map of your location, speed, battery level, and power reserve. In the settings, you can change the name, Bluetooth password or unlock password, activate cruise control, and much more.
Conclusion and Reviews
The KUGOO B1 is a compact city electric bike that is only suitable for short distances. It has only electric traction and you cannot pedal yourself since they are not here.
To the pluses, I can include – it’s small size and weight, which makes it easy to move around in a busy metropolis to work or study.
The design of the bike allows you to transport it in public transport, for example, in the subway, bus or tram.
I can also note that the B1 model will be a good companion for small people. Thus, you can feel comfortable moving even not over long distances.
The purpose of the KUGOO B1 is to replace a large electric scooter, which is slightly larger and heavier.
Price and Where to buy cheaper?
At the time of writing the review on KUGOO B1, the price tag for an electric bike is $367.19 with an 8% discount. You can also use coupon code NNN8THCHIGZ38 with a discount of $38 OFF for orders over $ 308.
Definitely, the bike is worth its attention, but it has some drawbacks and narrow functionality of the destination.
