The Chinese manufacturer Jumper is trying to make high-quality laptops or even ultrabooks for a low price. In this review, we will look at a new generation called the Jumper EZbook S4.
What kind of laptop can I get for $ 350? This is the price of a middle-class smartphone, so you should not expect much.
This class of notebook is intended for office work with text or for using social networks with video views. But if you want to play simple games, then it will work too.
The Jumper EZbook S4 got a good 14-inch screen with Full HD resolution, a modern Intel Lake N4100 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD and also a good battery life with 4600mAh.
Let’s begin our full review of the modern office notebook EZbook S4 with specs.

Jumper EZbook S4: Design and Appearance
The Jumper EZbook S4 in our test differs significantly from its predecessor. The case has become thicker and the shape has changed. Although the base continues to be wedge-shaped, the sides are now beveled.
In addition, the EZbook S4 is no longer completely made of metal. The display and the bottom case are still made of aluminum, but the top case is now made of plastic.
When laying hands on the EZbook S4 feels, therefore, less high-quality. But it also has an advantage: this cold feeling of metal is not necessarily for everyone.
Thanks to the top plastic case, the laptop stays pleasantly warm, at least where you touch it most. Below are four rubber feet that prevent slipping and provide sufficient space between the laptop and the table.
The stability has been improved compared to the EZbook model. If you pack the laptop in the unfolded state on a corner, it does not bend in the slightest. Creaking noises and the like are missing.
The display is still covered with glass, which makes for a noble impression. The glass is framed by a black plastic frame. This is relatively thick and slightly rounded. The shape makes for a nice soft transition at the edges.
In terms of weight, of course, this is clearly noticeable. The Jumper EZbook S4 weighs 1,25kg. When closed, the dimensions are 32.00 x 21.00 x 1.50 cm.
The connections were distributed to the right and left the side. On the right, you will find a USB 3.0 port, a headphone jack, and a micro SD card reader.
On the left side of Jumper EZbook S4, there is another USB 3.0 port, a DC-In port with LED (red = charge, green = battery full) and a mini HDMI port.
The criticism is there for us for the missing USB type-C connection. Such a connection is just incredibly practical, which is especially true when it is used for recharging.
Jumper EZbook S4: Display
Jumper EZbook S4 also gives classy-looking display with a matt cover. This, of course, has the advantage that the display is more susceptible to reflections.
In fact, the Jumper EZbook S4 has a pretty good IPS display with good sharpness and response time. The presentation is absolutely impressive and the colors are lively and intense.
The photos and moving content are great fun. The viewing angle stability is okay. At this point, we deliberately do not use the “good” rating, as gray tones show a slight tilting.
For an IPS display, the lower quality grade is still worlds better than a TN panel. With a uniformly colored screen, you can also find light halos on the edge of the display.
But that does not matter, as they are never noticed in normal everyday life. The brightness of the display is slightly higher on the EZbook S4. The difference is not huge.
Nevertheless, the display is slightly better readable outdoors in the shade. On
an automatic brightness control Jumper waived further.
Jumper EZbook S4: Hardware and Performance
We have already got to know the Intel Celeron N4100 processor in some China laptops and tablets. The Jumper EZbook S4 in the test also uses this processor.
If you like to play or do other computationally intensive tasks like video editing, this is the wrong place. The processor is located at the lower end of the Intel line-up and offers about as much computing power as current midrange smartphone processors.
In the Antutu Benchmark, the Jumper EZbook S4 achieves a score of over 140,000 points. For a Celeron N4100 laptop that is relatively much and actually makes itself felt in everyday life.
The EZbook S4 runs smoother than previous laptops we tested with this processor. This is most noticeable when scrolling e.g. in Spotify or Google Chrome. Here, the laptop stuttered less than various devices that we have previously tested.
Where this difference comes from is difficult to say. The user will be happy about it anyway. Still, that does not change the fact that the EZbook S4 is more of surfing and writing solution.
The memory is based on DDR4L technology and clocked at 2,133MHz. There is 8GB of RAM are installed.
To increase the performance, we recommend that you disable the power limits in the UEFI (BIOS). You can also disable DPTF, which prevents early throttling of processor power at higher temperatures.
Although this leads to higher waste heat and increased energy consumption, noticeably increases the performance. The above mentioned Antutu benchmark has been reached with these settings.
Especially the graphics performance benefits. The heat development of the processor is barely noticeable from the outside. The case heats up only slightly, which is probably because it is relatively thick and the heat is not dissipated directly to the case.
But this is also noticeable in the temperatures on the processor. Under prolonged full load with deactivated power limits, it reaches temperatures of up to 88°C. We could not reach the 90°C and with deactivated DPTF there was no thermal throttling. Overall, the temperatures are okay, although a slightly better cooling would not have hurt.
The factory-installed SSD comes from Foresee and relies on SATA 3 connectivity. Since it is an M.2 SSD, it can easily be swapped by the user for a larger SSD. The factory-built SSD comes in 2280 format, which is also the largest format that can be used in the Jumper EZbook S4.
The speed is expected to be higher at 538MB/s read and 433MB/s write expected. The built-SSD is not the worst, because even with large amounts of data does not break the write rate.
Another way to expand the memory is the Micro SD slot. However, as with all China laptops, this approach is not suitable for high-bandwidth applications.
This is simply because the connection of the card reader is very slow. More than 24MB/s were not in the test with a 128GB card in it. The card reaches in other devices up to 80MB/s.
Jumper EZbook S4: Software
The Jumper EZbook S4 in the analisis comes with Windows 10 Home 64-bit. The operating system is licensed and activated.
The product key is stored in the UEFI and is automatically used in a new installation to activate Windows. At the factory, Jumper installs a multilingual copy of Windows 10, which also lets you select English directly in the Set-Up Assistant.
Nevertheless, you have to reinstall the operating system. By default, Windows 10 is on the 32GB eMMC storage. As a result, not enough space is available to install updates. Only after a new installation on the SSD updates is possible. You can download the drivers here.
Jumper EZbook S4: Keyboard and Touchpad
Jumper has already proved his luck with his last laptops on the keyboards. The manufacturer relies on rather high-quality keyboards with a lush keystroke and has received much praise for it.
Obviously, the feedback has been taken to heart and the EZbook S4 has again paid special attention to the keyboard because it is a lot of fun again.
As usual, the keys have plenty of hubs, so you can clearly feel whether you have pressed a key correctly or not. The keys do not feel spongy but show clear feedback – almost crisp but not too loud or stiff.
There is nothing to complain about the processing. With cheap laptops, the individual keys are often lost. You can feel it in bad cases when writing and of course, this is also noticeable in the noise.
In the case of the EZbook S4, Jumper has obviously made an effort to do everything right in this regard. The keys are absolutely stable and do not wobble a bit. If you stroke the keys, they will not move and make noises.
Even when typing, there is no noise except for a dull rumble. At the stop, the movement stops abruptly, without springs. Even with fixed attacks, the keyboard does not bend inwards.
Luckily, the touchpads are becoming the standard, and the Jumper EZbook S4 in our analisis is counting on one.
This time, Jumper installs a much larger touchpad. The size ensures very comfortable use. The finish of the surface is slightly rough but still lubricious.
A wobbling or rattling is not detectable despite the hidden beneath the touchpad mouse buttons. In everyday life, the touchpad has always worked flawlessly – no ghost touches, flawless multi-touch, precise control. The Windows 10 gestures are fully supported and can be configured as desired.
Jumper EZbook S4: Connectivity
The Jumper EZbook S4 contains the well-known Intel Dual Band AC 3165 WLAN chip, which also handles Bluetooth and can be found in almost all current China laptops with AC-WLAN.
In the test, the reception performance of the EZbook S4 convinced. In addition to the router, we have achieved crisp 201Mit/s in the speed test, the maximum of the Internet connection.
One floor below, there was a significant slump, the bandwidth was over 100Mbit/s but still more than sufficiently high.
The Bluetooth range is sufficient. With a headset, we were able to move a space without dropping. In addition, there were then first dropouts.
Jumper EZbook S4: Battery
The battery life is one of the great strengths of the Jumper EZbook S4. In the test, we have reached an average of 8 hours, occasionally 9 hours.
This probably refers to the runtime with deactivated power limits and performance mode. If you deactivate the power limits, use the energy-saving mode and leave the display brightness at a low level, you can also run for 10 hours.
The battery is charged from 0 to 100% in 2.5 hours. The charging status is indicated by an LED next to the DC-In connector. Significant warming is not noticeable when charging.
Jumper EZbook S4: Conclusions and Reviews
The Jumper EZbook S4 in our review is yet another successful budget laptop from Jumper. The manufacturer once again plays out its strengths, which are especially in the keyboard.
This is a real dream and again much better than the EZbook model, which refers both to the layout and the feeling of writing. Add to that a good stamina, a decent performance for basic tasks and a good display for watching pictures and movies.
Disappointed, however, the internal speakers, which are advertised by Jumper extra.
The customer is doing so unnecessarily much work (reinstallation). Nevertheless, the Jumper EZbook S4 is a very solid overall package.
With a new processor and a good quality screen with a matte finish, this makes a laptop a good choice for long jobs with decent battery life for up to 9 hours without recharging.
Jumper EZbook S4: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
In various shops, it is always available for the low price and that is definitely a bargain.
Now the auction offer is being held from January 2 to January 6, you can buy a Jumper EZbook S4 laptop for only $359.99 at a 30% discount.
In general, it is a reliable and proven laptop with good performance for not hard work or simple games.
