A revolution occurs when the latest technology makes the technique produce a result that is orders of magnitude better than before its introduction.
Today in our review is a new laser projector called JMGO SA, which is a competitor of Xiaomi Mi Ultra projector.
In this article, we will look at all the aspects and see what a new monster is capable of.

In recent years, many new technologies have been introduced in the field of projectors: image resolution growth, the use of LEDs as light sources, enlightened optics, etc.
But not all of them were able to cause a “wow effect” in the audience. And lasers as a light source, too, despite the promised service life of 20,000 hours, which is 5-10 times higher than that of conventional mercury high-pressure lamps.
The reasons for the lack of explosive interest in lasers were simple and banal: the projectors with them had an order of magnitude worse contrast and unimportant color reproduction.
As a result, they have predicted the fate of being an attribute of exclusive presentation and office devices.
Laser projectors in every possible way to modernize, using LEDs as an additional light source, changing the parameters and operating time of phosphor phosphors, putting additional filters, but all these measures did not give the desired effect.
The revolution happened where it was not expected. The first laser emitter, devoid of childhood diseases of this technology, was installed in the projector, which according to the creators’ idea should compete with large televisions. It got the name JMGO SA in our test.
However, even without considering the use of the laser, JMGO SA should be called a unique device. After all, this is the world’s first ultra short-focus projector with a native resolution of 1080p.
JMGO SA is indispensable in cases where the projector on the wall opposite to the screen or on the ceiling is simply impossible or inappropriate to install.
For example, in really big halls and living rooms, where a hanging projector will spoil the style of the interior.
JMGO SA: Design and Appearance
In the appearance of JMGO SA in our analisis, it looks more like a big deep brown box with a tech-friendly, emphasized functional design.
The body is made of aluminum alloy and the JMGO SA is too big for a typical projector, and to be honest, it’s pretty big: 41 cm in width, 9.0 cm in height and 30.0 cm in depth.
It is supposed to be installed near the wall with a screen, but it can also be hung up, although in the latter case it is vitally necessary to strengthen the ceiling, because it weighs 7 kg.
Air vents are located on both sides. This made it possible to make the cooling as efficient as possible, so the projector doesn’t actually make any noise during operation – the noise of the cooling system is not heard from it at all.
On the top panel in the center of the recess is a lens with unique characteristics, which on the prototype was automatically closed with a lid.
With it, the projector can form a picture from 0.1 to 0.5 meters diagonally, provided that it is as close as possible to the screen plane.
Of course, there is no shift in the lens, therefore, in this case, increased demands are placed on the relative position of the projector and the screen, because the image is distorted very much due to the slightest deviation from the normal.
However, the accuracy of the installation of the screen and the projector are the difficulties of the installers.
The following ports of JMGO SA in our test are located on the back of the projector. Here you find this hole for power supply, there is also a separate socket in which this 3.5mm Audio, 2x HDMI, RJ45, SPDIF, USB is located.
In general, there is everything you need to view or connect additional gaming devices or consoles.
So, the design of JMGO SA is made of quality materials and the appearance is very pleasant, which will not spoil the interior of your apartment. Let’s now move on to the performance and picture quality.
JMGO SA: Performance and Image quality
The JMGO SA projector uses an Amlogic quad-core chip, which has good responsiveness and smooth operation. Also, there is 2GB of RAM DDR3 + 16GB eMMC internal memory.
We are also interested in more. With such specs of the lens, the projector demonstrates incredible clarity of the picture.
If you look at the image closely when the projector is perfectly exposed, you can look at each pixel on the screen!
Considering that JMGO SA in our test has real resolution 1080p Full HD, it is 1920 x 1080 pixels, the interpixel grid is the thinnest among all matrices, this result is in real definition can be called outstanding.
But the most interesting is not even that. The JMGO SA uses a laser light source of a new generation, which makes it possible to achieve virtually perfect color reproduction.
In it, a powerful blue laser shines not on the matrix, but on the phosphorus of a special composition, exciting the glow in it, which in turn is separated by filters and sent to the matrix.
This scheme does not use additional LEDs, as in some laser projectors of other companies, for example, in models of Casio.
At the same time, the color coverage of the JMGO SA is much higher than that of the best devices with lasers, LEDs and other non-standard light sources.
And in terms of the color balance, this projector is generally incomparable with any video device that we tested in all our years in the lab.
Notice that the lines of color components on the graph are stable and balanced not over most of the range, but across the whole spectrum.
This means that even in the dark moments, all colors and especially black look extremely natural.
Looking at this is a bit unusual because over the years we have all become accustomed to the fact that black is always displayed with a blue tint, and if you try to fix it with the settings, you always get worse – a brown tint appears. There is nothing to complain about here.
The use of laser has allowed developers to achieve excellent picture contrast as well. In dynamic mode, this indicator tends to infinity. At the same time, the image does not suffer from wild fluctuations in illumination, as in the case of using a simple dynamic aperture.
You also cannot find fault with image processing – it is also as accurate as that of the Sony JMGO SA in the analisis, which allows you to easily watch standard HD recordings without seeing scaling errors or other artifacts, such as increased noise or motion processing errors.
JMGO SA color gamut is much higher than that of the best devices with lasers, LEDs and other non-standard light sources.
And in terms of the color balance, this projector is generally incomparable with any video device we tested earlier.
Only the brightness of the image on the 110-inch screen on which we conducted the testing was even enough for viewing with the lights on, but this is completely natural.
To watch a movie in the afternoon on such a screen, you need a projector with a large luminous flux, that is, 4000-5000 Lumens, and we have 7000 Lumens here.
JMGO SA is good in that it allows you to watch movies even during the daytime and at the same time receive an image of excellent quality.
At the same time, it switches on and off almost as fast as a TV set, the laser, unlike a lamp, does not require heating or prolonged cooling after switching off.

So, the service life of a laser light source is such that the projector can not be turned off for days – it will take a decade to replace it.
The most importantly, it is indispensable in those cases where it is simply impossible or inappropriate to install a projector on the wall opposite to the screen or ceiling.

JMGO SA: 3D mode
Ever since the JMGO SA, I have said that the high maximum brightness gives the JMGO projectors an advantage in the area of 3D image quality.
In this model, the situation is not much different, except for a higher contrast, which in 3D mode has a noticeable effect.
During testing, I watched fragments from Cold Heart, Salyut-7, various episodes of The Hobbit and the second film Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp on a screen 110 inches.
Of course, you feel a drop in brightness even when working in the maximum lamp power mode.
Understanding that this level of brightness is an achievement, I would not consider other projectors with lower brightness if the 3D display function is of paramount importance to me.
The stereo effect is good. When viewing “Salute”, I often had claimed to the producers of the picture according to the effect of “puffiness”, when the objects seemed flat, as if several cardboard boxes were located at different distances.
In other scenes, everything is excellent. Perhaps the most impressive of all was the scene when the astronauts, like a cliff, hang over the Earth, which is somewhere infinitely below.
JMGO SA: Sound
The speakers of JMGO SA are located on top of the projector, and they have a very interesting shape.
In addition, the sound is very bass and high quality, the volume is very good. Therefore, there are no problems when watching TV shows or movies.
Also worth noting is that you can connect a 3.5mm audio jack or use a wireless headset.
The noise from the projector is barely audible, and you can even watch movies at the lowest volume level since the background noise is 30dB.
JMGO SA: Measurement results
JMGO SA projector measurements in our test were not carried out in the site laboratory, but in the showroom with the full blackout.
A 110-inch screen was used. Pre-setup the projector according to standard test patterns. Dynamic contrast, brightness and gamma adjustments have been disabled.
In the economy mode of the laser source, the brightness of the white field was 2008 cd/m2, the black level, in this case, was 0.202 cd/m2, that is, the contrast even without dynamic adjustments exceeds the mark 4400:1!
A similar ratio with such brightness is not present in any projector. In this case, the gradations of illumination are all displayed correctly, but a little differently depending on the position on the screen due to the acute angle of the projection.
The color balance at the same time always remains extremely stable and perfectly balanced when choosing a temperature of 7000K in the menu (in reality, 6800K).
JMGO SA: Conclusions and Reviews
After all of the above, I want to complete the review of the new laser projector JMGO SA and draw the following conclusions.
The projector has a good level of contrast (for this segment) in the absence of a “rainbow effect”.
High brightness in this projector allows you to work in lighted rooms, or with large diagonals in silent mode and resource saving. There is a reserve of brightness for a beautiful display of sunny scenes.

In my opinion, JMGO SA has all chances to become a new “national” projector, primarily due to a very significant jump in native contrast among projectors in this price range.
And yet, after what I saw in today’s testing, I would say that there is every reason not to pay any attention to more inexpensive projectors and immediately save for the purchase of JMGO SA. So, it surprised me!

The laser projectors are currently not a cheap pleasure. Therefore, the price is not small.
