Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

Huawei has already unveiled the third generation of its flagship smartwatch. And today we will focus on the new version of the device called Huawei Watch 3.

In this full review, I will share with you about the main features and advantages of the updated generation. In addition, I will tell you not only about the positive aspects, but also about the negative ones.

If we talk about the cost, then at the present time the price tag on the Huawei Watch 3 surprised me very much. That is, the device has a rather overpriced price, namely about $350. At the same time, the main competitors will cost you a little less.

Therefore, I have a question, why do we, users, have to pay such a lot of money? Let’s find it out based on the technical features and capabilities.

First of all, the new version of Huawei’s smartwatch was made of premium materials. In addition, a round 1.43 inch AMOLED screen with high resolution is used on the front.

The smartwatch also received eSIM support, that is, you can make and receive calls through the built-in microphone and speaker. Also, the device has received many useful functions and features with support for multitasking. But the battery life does not really stand out, since the manufacturer promises about 3 days of work without recharging.

Okay, I figured out the technical features, but I need to test each feature in practice and share their work with you. Therefore, now I propose to start in-depth and detailed testing.

The third generation of Huawei Watch 3 smartwatches comes in a square black package. On the front, you can find a drawing of the device with the model name, logo and support for the AppGallery brand store.

It is worth saying that the box itself was well made of thick cardboard material. That is, the budget device clearly did not look like it, which is already very good.

In the meantime, after unpacking, I found the following components, such as the watch itself. Further, the set comes with a white magnetic charging docking station and various documentation.

That’s all, this is where the delivery set ends, not a lot, right? But do not forget that this is just a smartwatch and you will not find a more complete set even from other brands.

Design, build quality and materials

The choice of the company Huawei offers two types of color options – black and gray. I have a black version of the watch with a black silicone strap. The gray version comes with a brown leather strap.

In terms of the materials used, the first option uses stainless steel with a ceramic coating in its combination. But the gray color of the watch was made only of stainless steel.

In addition, the quality of performance was at a very high level and during my testing, I did not reveal any extraneous squeaks and sounds. I can also highlight the presence of full protection against water under the 5 ATM standard. This means that you can dive to a depth of 50 meters or under a pressure of 5 atmospheres without any problems.

As for the dimensions, they made up such indicators as 46 x 46 x 14 mm, and the weight, taking into account the weight of the strap, was about 82 grams. Therefore, I could easily wear the watch on the wrist and it did not look particularly bulky at all. In addition, I believe that this model of Huawei Watch 3 is suitable for both women and men.

On the front of the device, there is a round screen with dimensions of 1.43 inches and an AMOLED matrix. Also, the screen resolution was 466 x 466 pixels and the pixel density per inch is 326 PPI. It’s not that bad considering it’s a smartwatch.

Even in the settings of Huawei smartwatches, I discovered many interesting features of the screen. For example, there is an Always-On Display function, which has its own style depending on the type of dial used. You can also choose automatic screen adjustment, which works without too many complaints or questions.

If we talk about the maximum screen brightness, then the Huawei Watch 3 device received a good brightness value. That is, in sunny and bright weather, the information from the watch was read without any particular complaints. In addition, the AMOLED screen received very deep and realistic colors, which also cannot please me either.

On the right side of the device, there are two buttons, where the top is the power button. It also performs the functions of flipping or zooming out and zooming in, that is, like a regular crown on a smartwatch. But the bottom button is customizable and you can activate the inclusion of any function or application without any problems. In my case, the bottom button activates sport modes.

The back of the Huawei Watch 3 smartwatch has received standard sensors for measuring health status. This can be the level of oxygen in the blood, heart rate, and even there is a sensor for measuring the temperature of the skin. Also here you can find a speaker and microphone for talking or listening to music.

Now I also wanted to talk about the strap itself, it has a typical width of 22 mm. Also in my case, the strap was made of a fairly thick and confident silicone material. During wearing, the strap did not rub my hand too much and I could wear the watch all day and did not feel much discomfort. In addition, the strap itself is removable and you can easily replace it with any other option.

Okay, I figured out the appearance and design features, now I propose to talk about the functionality and main control modes of smart watches from Huawei.

Functions, controls and mobile app

The first inclusion of the Huawei Watch 3 smartwatch shows us information about the version of the operating system. In the case of our today’s hero, this is HarmonyOS. Next, you need to select your native language and then a QR code will appear to install the mobile application.

At the same time, the application was named Huawei Health, which is available for both Android and iOS devices. After installing the app, you need to pair the smartwatch with the mobile app. In fact, the process was quite simple and I did not reveal any special difficulties with pairing.

All these steps need to be done to configure all functions, including e-SIM, that is, to make calls. But I want to talk about the application itself a little later. Among other features, I can single out the presence of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

The smartwatch home screen offers a wide variety of watch faces to choose from. In order to change the style of the dial, you need to hold your finger across the watch screen. Here you will be thrown into the menu of various dials, but in addition to these options, dials are still available on the mobile application.

Now let’s go through the management and use of the user interface. But first, I will note that the user interface works well, very smoothly and quickly. During my testing, I did not find any freezes or other problems. In addition, the watch’s user interface offers many interesting animations.

When you swipe to the left of the home screen, you’ll notice some useful widgets. These are activities throughout the day such as steps, distance, and calories. There are also widgets for heart rate, SpO2 and skin temperature measurement. Here I would like to highlight the measurements, if the features of the heart rate and SpO2 worked properly and I had no particular complaints. But the measurement of skin temperature showed the result not of body temperature, but of skin temperature. That is, if you are outside with a low ambient temperature, then the temperature measurement result will not be particularly useful for you.

When you swipe to the right, another widget is displayed and this is the weather. In this widget you can watch the weather indicators for several days in advance, it also displays information about the wind and much more. If you swipe up from the home screen, you can see the latest notifications. But I noticed that icons are not displayed for all applications, although there were no problems with the readability of the text.

In addition, to get to the quick settings menu, you need to swipe down from the main screen of the watch. There are many interesting icons here: general settings, flight mode, remove water from the speaker, activate vibration, power-on screen, search for phone, do not disturb, flashlight and alarm clock. Below there are icons showing NFC operation, Bluetooth connection, battery level, day of the week and date.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

The main settings received many interesting sections – these are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection settings, mobile network, NFC, dial and work screen, customize icons, screen and brightness, sound and vibration, notifications and system settings. That is, these are language selection settings, check the latest firmware updates and much more.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

To go to the main menu with all the features, you must press the upper crown once. I found a lot of interesting features here, this is the AppGallery app store where you can install some apps. There is also a music player and here I would like to recall the 16 GB of internal memory. That is, you can listen to music through the watch itself, both through the speaker and through wireless earbuds.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

In addition, there are many other applications, but they are standard, as with most other smartwatches. These are timer, stopwatch, alarm clock, weather, notifications, heart rate, SpO2 and others. I can also note that the icons can change their scale by scrolling the crown. The same feature is found on the Apple Watch. Also, zooming in or out of icons was done very smoothly and without any delay.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

If we talk about sports modes, then there are a lot of them. These are walking, running, cycling, swimming in the pool and much more. Naturally, the watch had a built-in GPS module, but comparing its work with the Apple Watch, it had a small error in the region of 20 meters. Although the trajectory on both watch models was identical.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

Okay, now let’s talk about the mobile app and its features. In fact, I’ve always liked Huawei, namely how it tries to show off its many useful features and functions. Even in the Huawei Health app, I found a large number of different chips. Yes, there are standard features, for example, heart rate, SpO2, steps, distance, sleep and others.

But also here I saw such features as monitoring of health indicators, namely Huawei TruSleep, continuous heart rate monitoring, motion reminder and others. Also, through the mobile application, you can set up an e-SIM and make calls through a smart watch, even when the smartphone is very far from you. And of course, there are both free and paid watch faces. The number of free watch faces is very large and everyone can choose the one that they like best.

Battery and run time

A 450 mAh battery was installed inside the case of the Huawei Watch 3 smartwatch. This seems like a lot, but the battery life will not stand out much against the background of more budget smartwatches.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

By this I mean that a full charge of the battery will last for 2-3 days of use. But if you activate all functions, including e-SIM and others, the hours will be about 1 business day.

At the same time, the charging time was about 2 hours through a two-pin magnetic docking station. It is worth noting that the docking station itself had a rather powerful magnet and during charging, I had no problems with the quality of the connection.

Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons

After a complete and in-depth review, I was surprised by the new generation of smartwatches Huawei Watch 3. They received a number of interesting features and capabilities.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

For example, from the positive aspects I can single out this high-quality assembly and the use of premium manufacturing materials. In addition, the watch has received protection from water under the 5 ATM standard.

On the plus side, the smartwatch has received many useful functions and features, such as heart rate measurements, SpO2, skin temperature and much more.

Huawei Watch 3 Review: Premium Smartwatch with eSIM

In addition, I liked the bright and juicy AMOLED screen with a good resolution. I can also attribute to the advantage the performance and smoothness of the user interface.

But the main, significant drawback of the Huawei Watch 3 smartwatch is its battery life. I can also single out from the minuses, this is a rather high and overestimated cost.

Price and where to buy cheaper?

Now each user will be able to purchase a new model of smart watches Huawei Watch 3 at a price of $349 with a 30% discount.

Considering its capabilities and how the watch was assembled, I can definitely recommend the new generation of smartwatches from Huawei for purchase. But you should keep in mind the main drawbacks and if they do not scare you, then this watch will be a good choice.
