The other day we talked about a new smartphone from Huawei called Nova 6, which got a pretty attractive appearance and flagship technical specifications. Today we’ll talk about a slightly simplified model called the Huawei Nova 6 SE.
In this review, I will talk about my first impressions, as well as about the main advantages and disadvantages of the device.
At the time of this writing, you can buy a Huawei Nova 6 SE smartphone for $355.
Of course, the price is not small, but the technical features of the smartphone are almost flagship. The device has a large 6.4-inch screen with a hole-punch display for the front camera, a Kirin 810 processor, 8/128 GB of memory, a 48 MP main camera, a battery with a capacity of 4200mAh and fast charging at 40 watts.
Of course, if we compare the technical specifications of the new Redmi K30 and Nova 6 SE, taking into account the price and the specs, then Redmi will win. But let me tell you about the main features of the new model from Huawei, and then draw conclusions.

Huawei Nova 6 SE: Design
Almost all Huawei models are trending and the new Nova 6 SE is no exception. Again, I can’t call it unique, since the back panel resembles the main camera module of the iPhone 11 Pro.
Only on a smartphone, the main camera has four sensors, and not three, like on an Apple device. An LED flash is located under the square module of the main camera.
Also, the back panel is made of protective glass and has an iridescent color, which looks very interesting in the sun.
Like the older Nova 6, the simplified version of the Nova 6 SE has a fingerprint scanner on the side that acts as a power button. Also, the device received a standard location for the volume rocker, just above the fingerprint scanner.
I want to note that the response time of the finger recognition scanner is quite fast and most importantly accurate. Also, the location of the scanner on the side is much more convenient than on the rear panel.
On the opposite side is a hybrid slot for dual nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and a nano memory card up to 256 GB.
The lower part of the smartphone received a Type-C port with fast charging, a microphone hole, the main speaker and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
At the same time, an additional noise-canceling microphone and an infrared sensor are located on the top of the device.
The front panel is a bit simpler than on the main Nova 6. Here I see a 6.4-inch screen with a resolution of Full HD Plus or 1080 x 2310 pixels.
The screen technology is standard – it is an IPS matrix with good color reproduction, contrast and viewing angles.
Also in the upper right corner of the screen, there is a hole-punch display for the front camera, but it is not dual, as on Nova 6 or other flagship devices, such as the Galaxy S11 Pro.
The frames around the screen, especially the side ones, are rather thin, but on the bottom of the screen, you can see a thick ledge. Given this, the useful area of the screen on the front is approximately 83.5% and a pixel density of 398 ppi.
Of course, the screen of the Huawei nova 6 SE cannot boast of having a 120 Hz frequency or HDR10 technology onboard, like the Redmi K30. Although, I do not want to say that the new model in the nova series has poor screen quality.
As you might have guessed, the dimensions of the nova 6 SE are slightly smaller than the Nova 6 and are 159.2 x 76.3 x 8.7 mm and weigh approximately 183 grams.
The phone lies well in the hands, but using one hand will be problematic. The build quality and materials used are at a high level. Currently, distinguishing a middle-class smartphone from a flagship device is becoming more and more difficult.
Huawei Nova 6 SE: Performance and Software
The hero of our review received a proprietary processor called Kirin 810, which is produced using 7-nanometer technology. Of course, the processor is not new and can be found on models such as Nova 5, Honor 9X, Huawei P Smart and other devices.
The processor got good performance due to the presence of 8 cores, namely two Cortex-A76 cores with a frequency of 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 1.88 GHz.
In addition, the processor is paired with a graphics chip called Mali-G52 MP6 and as the game test showed, the new smartphone copes with heavy games perfectly, but only at medium graphics settings.
In terms of the amount of permissible memory, this is not a very large choice, since nova 6 SE received only one version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. It’s good that the device has support for an additional slot for a memory card up to 256 GB.
One of the advantages of the user interface is the presence of the latest version of Android 10, which has a familiar shell called EMUI 10.
The software has a fast and quick control, applications open instantly and without any delay.
In addition, the user interface EMUI 10 has an integrated Google package with all applications, even despite the Chinese version of the firmware.
If you compare the user interface of Huawei and Xiaomi, then I like the work of the first, since it has a large and wide list of functions and various features.
Huawei Nova 6 SE: Camera
The presence of four sensors in the main camera does not surprise us anymore, but Huawei has a good reputation due to the presence of high-quality optimization, which makes pictures an order of magnitude better than that of competitors.
The main camera received a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 module with f/1.8 aperture, the second sensor has an 8-megapixel module with f/2.4 aperture for ultra-wide shots.
The third and fourth sensors have identical resolution with 2 megapixels and an f/2.4 aperture, but one for macro photography and the other for bokeh effect.
The front camera, as I already wrote, is located under the hole-punch on the front of the screen and has a resolution of 16 megapixels and an f/2.0 aperture.
You can see examples of photos taken by Huawei nova 6 SE in the album below. Given its price, the quality of the photos is slightly above average.
Huawei Nova 6 SE: Battery
One of the main features of the Nova 6 SE is its fairly large 4200 mAh battery capacity. The battery life on a single charge, with an average load of the device, can safely reach up to two days.
Also, the user interface is well optimized and does not eat a lot of energy into the empty. Besides, I want to note that in the battery settings you can choose HD resolution, instead of Full HD, when the battery level is low. This feature is present in almost all models from Huawei.
In addition, the charging time is very fast and in 30 minutes of charge you can recharge the battery level to 70%, thanks to the 40W power adapter.
Huawei Nova 6 SE: Conclusion and Reviews
I can not call the smartphone Huawei nova 6 SE the best or worst in its class. The new smartphone received both positive and negative aspects.
I’ll start with the cons, the first thing I did not like was the rather large frames around the screen, the protruding module of the main camera and the high price.
Of course, there are many more pluses, for example, a modern appearance with premium materials, like a real flagship. The performance at a decent level, and as usual I like optimizing the software. In addition, the quality of the pictures is very good, both at night and during the day, and the battery life is high with the presence of fast charging at 40 watts.
Huawei Nova 6 SE: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy a smartphone Huawei Nova 6 SE at a price of $355 in black, but if you want a green or pearl color, you will need to pay extra. Below I will leave a link to the store with the lowest price.
