A few days ago, Huawei introduced several smartphone models, such as the Huawei Nova 6, Nova 6 SE and Honor V30. If two models, such as the Honor V30 and Nova 6 have almost the same specifications, then the Nova 6 SE is a mid-range smartphone.
In this article, I want to talk about the main features of the Huawei Nova 6, what to expect from the new flagship, its main advantages, and disadvantages.
Now you can buy a Nova 6 smartphone at a price for $660. Of course, the price is not the lowest on the market, but the filling is also not weak.
The new flagship Huawei Nova 6 received two versions – it is with 5G support and without it, of course, the prices will be different.
Other features of the device, I can include – this is the latest generation Kirin 990 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory, a triple main camera and a dual front camera and 4200 mAh battery capacity with support for fast charging 40W.
Undoubtedly, the flagship from Huawei received decent technical specs, but how will it show itself in practice? Let’s get down to the first look and start with the look.

Huawei Nova 6: Design
Is the appearance of the Huawei Nova 6 unique? I don’t think so, because the front part of the smartphone received a similar double-wide hole-punch display for the front camera like the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. Only here is the location of the sensors in the Nova 6 on the left edge, and Samsung on the right side.
I have nothing against the slight similarity between the two flagships, as selfie lovers will be happy with the dual-module on the front camera from Huawei.
Also on the front panel is a large 6.57 inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. I understand that this is not AMOLED screen technology, but I am sure that fans of the LCD matrix are present.
In addition, the screen occupies about 84.5% of the total front panel area. As you can see, the frames around the screen are thin on the sides, but the frame is rather thick at the bottom.
The aspect ratio is 20: 9 and the pixel density is 401 ppi. I have nothing against the quality of the screen, the picture has realistic and vibrant colors, good readability even in sunlight. If you recall that the previous generation of Huawei Nova 5 had OLED technology, then the manufacturer decided to use a cheaper IPS matrix in the new smartphone.
On the upper part, just above the screen, there is a speaker and additional sensors, such as lights, proximity, and others.
The back of the Nova 6 is very similar to the previous generation of Nova 5, where I see a module with three sensors and an LED flash. Again, like most modern smartphones, the flagship from Huawei has a rather large protrusion of the main camera. Therefore, it is better to use the device together with a protective case so as not to scratch the camera sensors.
There is no fingerprint sensor on the rear panel and under the screen either since it is located on the right side of the device and works like a mechanical power button. A little higher is the volume rocker.
On the bottom of the smartphone, I see the main speaker, Type-C port with fast charging, a microphone hole and a slot for dual nano-SIM cards.
An infrared sensor and an additional microphone for noise reduction were installed on top.
In the new Nova line, you will have a choice of colors such as black, red, blue and purple.
Of the minuses, I can attribute – this is a typical and standard appearance, the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack, the protruding module of the main camera, the location of the fingerprint scanner is not under the screen, like most flagships.
Definitely, the smartphone has made a bias for fans of selfie cameras, since the dual-module is able to take high-quality pictures, even in low light, but I will talk about the camera a little later. Let’s look at what the device is capable of in benchmark tests and games.
Huawei Nova 6: Performance and Software
The flagship installed a new improved proprietary processor Kirin 990, which runs on 7-nanometer technology. It received dual Cortex-A76 processors with a frequency of 2.86 GHz, dual Cortex-A76 processors with a frequency of 2.09 GHz and four Cortex-A55 processors with a frequency of 1.86 GHz.
In addition, Huawei Nova 6 received 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory. To minos, I can attribute this to the lack of a slot for a memory card.
The Mali-G76 MP16 GPU works fine, heavy games even on maximum graphics work stably and without much overheating. Below I will leave some results data from benchmarks.
The main function of the Kirin 990 chipset is the availability of support for 5G networks. The data transfer speed will be sky-high and can be even higher than modern Wifi routers.
I have no complaints about the quality of communication, since Nova 6 installed Bluetooth with version 5.1, NFC contactless payment, and the device finds the location without any problems due to the presence of a dual network A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, and even QZSS.
Huawei Nova 6 received the latest version of Android 10 with the EMUI 10 user interface.
The number of functions and features is very large and if you have previously encountered devices from Huawei, then you will not have much difficulty getting used to the new shell.
I have no complaints about the operating system, even if I use the Chinese version, since languages will be available almost all over the world, and the differences will only be in the presence of Chinese applications and the absence of Google applications.
Naturally, installing on Google’s EMUI 10 Google servers will not be difficult, just download the apk file Play Store and go through Google account authorization.
Huawei Nova 6: Camera
Despite the fact that the new flagship Huawei Nova 6 did not have the top-end sensor of the main camera, the photos will be of very good quality.
In the device, I found a 40-megapixel module with an f/1.8 aperture, which is famous for the good quality of images at night. The second module is 8 megapixels with f/2.4 aperture for telephoto shots and it is designed to operate with 3x optical zoom.
The third sensor is similar to the second on 8-megapixels with an f/2.4 aperture, but already for ultra-wide shots.
The front camera has a 32-megapixel module with f/2.0 aperture and a second module with 8-megapixel and f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide shots.
Both the front and the main camera received maximum video resolution of 4K and 30 frames per second, while the main one also has a 4K mode and 60 frames per second with support for gyro-EIS video stabilization.
The main function of the camera, I can attribute – this is 30 times the maximum zoom, which has optical image stabilization. Therefore, even at maximum zoom, the quality of the photos will be quite sharp and clear.
Below I would like to show some examples of pictures in different modes, you can evaluate them yourself.
Huawei Nova 6: Battery
The new Huawei Nova 6 smartphone was equipped with a rather large battery capacity of 4200 mAh, so the autonomy of working on a single charge will not be small.
As practice has shown, the time of work with active use was approximately 1.5 days of work. If used with moderate loads, then Nova 6 will calmly stretch until the end of the second day.
The presence of fast charging is able to charge a smartphone in 30 minutes from 0 to 70% thanks to a fast adapter for 40 watts. The wireless charging is not available, as for example with its fellow Honor V30.
Huawei Nova 6: Conclusions and Reviews
The strict appearance of Huawei Nova 6 can make the device very competitive for many manufacturers, such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo and others.
The main advantages of Huawei Nova 6 I can include – a double-wide hole-punch display for the front camera, high-quality images in low light of the main camera, good performance and battery life. Also, the presence of a 5G network brings the new model from Huawei to a level higher in the modern world.
The disadvantages, although insignificant, are present, for example, there is no 3.5 mm audio jack and memory card slot, the main camera module sticks out on the rear panel.
Huawei Nova 6: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Since the smartphone was just introduced a few days ago, so the price of the Huawei Nova 6 is currently not the lowest. Now you can buy the device for about $659.99, but I think that in a few months the price will be much lower.
Therefore, if you want to buy a smartphone Huawei Nova 6 with support for 5G network and good technical stuffing, then it will be a good choice.
