The Huawei Freebuds with new generation called Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S is clearly inspired by the Apple AirPods in our review today. But do the Bluetooth wireless headphones also offer the same level of comfort? And what about the sound? Our test provides information.
It is no secret that manufacturers in the tech industry like to be “inspired” by successful ideas. A popular source for such inspirations are the products of Apple.
Whether iPhone, iPad or MacBook – much of what the Group from Cupertino brings to the market, is taken up quickly by the competition.
This explains the Bluetooth headphones Huawei Freebuds, which have a striking similarity to the Apple AirPods.
Of course, Apple has not invented the Bluetooth headphones, but with the AirPods a very specific and distinctive design established. Huawei has quite boldly copied this look for the Honor FlyPods CM-H2S specs.

Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S: Design and Appearance
At first, second and third look, the Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S freebuds look like the AirPods. Only when you look closely are slight nuances visible that differ.
Basically, Huawei offers a very similar-looking product with comparable features.
The only question is whether the freebuds are as good as the AirPods and are a worthwhile alternative for those who, for a variety of reasons, do not fancy Apple products.
The design of the Freebuds is very similar to that of the AirPods.
The Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S freebuds in our analisis are available in White, Coral Blue and Red colors, with Huawei making twice as much as Apple, at least when it comes to color selection.
In fact, the Coral Blue version looks in my eyes even chic and a little more discreet, but for our test, the manufacturer has “only” supplied us with the white model.
The wireless headphones are delivered in an elongated case for transport, which, just like Apple, also serves for recharging.
Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S: Features
- Pairing and setup made easy
For pairing with a smartphone, tablet or laptop, both earphones must be placed in the open case while the pairing button on the case is pressed for two seconds.
An option to make the whole thing with lightning speed via NFC would have been nice, but not on board. Even so, the connection takes but hardly more than 30 seconds.
- The setup is done in no time
Optionally, you can also download the Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S Freebuds Assistant App from the Google Play Store, which is only needed to update the firmware.
Other features such as an adjustable equalizer do not exist. For example, the app was not necessary for our test.
An option to couple the freebuds to a user account and to use them as seamlessly with other devices, as Apple offers for the AirPods, there is not the way.
The AirPods clearly have an advantage in this area. The Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S in the test are more or less common Bluetooth headphones that work just as well with a Samsung smartphone as with a Huawei device.
- The use works as desired
Once paired, the Bluetooth connection between the smartphone and the freebuds automatically builds up whenever the headphones are removed from the case.
Once they are stowed back in the shell, the connection is automatically cut off. This worked absolutely reliable in the test and is a feature that gets used to quickly.
Again, the AirPods and other Bluetooth headphones obviously served as a role model.
- The headphones are loaded in the case. The case itself gets its juice via USB-C port
The battery life of the headphones themselves does not turn out to be particularly lush at just under three hours.
Since these are occasionally charged by the case but again and again, this falls only very rarely once negatively. The case itself provides enough juice for about ten hours, which is a good value.
Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S: Sound Quality
No matter how wireless or smart headphones are the decisive criterion for me is and always will be the sound.
Here the Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S freebuds in the test disappointed me and later convinced me. In fact, Huawei delivers a fairly neutral and open sound that brings out highs, mids, and lows in equal measure.
That’s why the sound did not seem particularly spectacular to me at first.
Only after prolonged listening did I realize with astonishment what a rich and clean sound the freebuds deliver even at moderate volumes.
Unlike many inexpensive in-ear headphones, the buds manage to create a very spatial sound.
The bottom line is that I’m quite satisfied with the sound, although the Bose SoundSport Free convinced me even more.
Well, they cost more, so is what Huawei delivers for the price, in my view, absolutely fine.
As it should, Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S has, of course, thought a little further and built a simple operation in the headphones. Again, the AirPods were the model, which is why Huawei has implemented a hint control just like Apple.
Double-tapping the right earphone pauses playback and double-tapping the left earpiece launches the Google Assistant.
For an incoming call, this can also be answered by double-tapping any handset.
By the way, the phone itself works well and the four integrated microphones do not disappoint in this respect either.
Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S: Conclusions and Reviews
The bottom line is that the Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S freebuds in our review are pretty good wireless headphones. During my multi-day test, I could not find any problems.
There were no dropouts, no synchronization problems, operation and use are very easy and the sound is really not bad.
The inevitable comparison with the Apple AirPods keep the freebuds in almost every respect.
Only in the synchronization with multiple (Apple) devices, Huawei cannot keep up with the original.
However, since the Honor FlyPods CM-H2S freebuds are more likely to be aimed at Android users and less at iPhone users, this is likely to be a knock-out criterion for only a few.
In the concert of high-quality Bluetooth in-ear headphones, Huawei can certainly play right away.
Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
As for the price? This is a very important factor to consider when buying any devices.
Now you can buy Huawei Honor FlyPods CM-H2S headphones with a charging case for only $119.99 with a 4% discount. This is a good proposition, and the freebuds can compete even with Apple AirPods.
