Last year’s Honor 8X model has gained a good reputation due to its low price and good technical specifications. In the same year, the Huawei sub-brand Honor will have a hard time “competing” with budget devices from Xiaomi. But it is full of optimism. And today I want to talk about the global version of the new generation Honor 9X.
I want to note that the global version of the 9X model received significant differences when compared with the Chinese version. For example, three sensors of the main camera will be installed on the global version, and not dual, as on the Chinese version. It will also have slightly worse performance and contactless NFC payment will not be available.
Now prices for the new generation Honor 9X start at $180 with a small discount.
On the technical side, the 9X received a completely frameless screen on the front panel, without any notches, a pop-up selfie camera, a Kirin 710F processor, a main 48-megapixel camera and 4000 mAh battery capacity.
I suggest starting our full review by unpacking and see what we have put inside the box.

Honor 9X: Unboxing
On the side face are the main technical features of the device.
Inside the box, I found the smartphone itself in a protective film, below is a box with a protective silicone case, documentation and a SIM needle.
At the bottom of the box is a Type-C cable and power adapter.
As you can see, this is a standard kit for a mid-range smartphone and I did not find any additional accessories, for example, headphones or protective glass.
Honor 9X: Design
The appearance of the smartphone is surprising since the device received a rather bulky screen size of 6.59 inches. It will be impossible to control a smartphone with one hand, but thanks to the large screen, watching movies or playing games is very comfortable.
In size, the Honor 9X received 163.1 x 77.2 x 8.8 mm and a weight of 206 grams.
As I already mentioned, the front part has a completely frameless screen, that is, without any notches, and the front camera is pop-up.
Near the selfie camera on the upper edge, there is a noise-canceling microphone and a hybrid slot for dual SIM cards or one SIM card and memory card.
On the right side, there was a power button and a volume rocker. The build quality of the buttons is at a good level, they are not tight and received good responsiveness.
The bottom has a Type-C port, a microphone, the main speaker and a 3.5mm audio jack. I was very pleased to have a headphone port, it will not be superfluous – that’s for sure.
The back panel is made of plastic but has a very interesting iridescent pattern in the form of the letter “X”. It looks quite exciting, but you can’t do without a protective case, and it’s good that it is supplied for the first time.
There are also three sensors of the main camera, an LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner. I want to note that the scanner works quickly and accurately, so I have no complaints about it.
The build quality is good and I have a positive impression, I am also glad that the device has a large screen and has a 3.5 mm audio jack. Even the plastic case looks like glass, so it will be difficult to distinguish the device from the premium class.
The fully frameless screen with a pop-up selfie camera looks like a flagship, and not like a middle-range smartphone.
Honor 9X: Screen
The 9X screen deserves much attention since it got quite large sizes – namely 6.59 inches with FullHD + resolution or 2340 x 1080 pixels.
With this screen size and resolution, the pixel density per inch was 391 PPI. The screen occupies approximately 84.3% of the total area on the front surface.
You should not expect an AMOLED screen in the middle segment of the smartphone, and therefore the Honor 9X received a standard IPS screen. It has good colors, viewing angles and contrast.
The brightness level was 450 cd/m2, so in sunny weather, the screen will not be very readable.
In the screen settings, you can adjust the color temperature to your taste, choose HD resolution, night mode and reading mode.
Honor 9X: Performance and Software
As I wrote above, the global Honor 9X device is equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 710F processor, and the Chinese version runs on the Kirin 810 processor, which is an order of magnitude more powerful than the 710F.
If you recall that the Honor 8X smartphone was equipped with a Kirin 710 processor, then the new 9X model received small changes, like an increase in the operating frequency. But as practice shows, there is almost no big difference between the Kirin 710 and 710F.
The Mali-G51 MP4 GPU has received good performance and you can play heavy games without any problems. After testing, I also did not find overheating, the device is well designed and I did not find any big flaws.
From memory, in my test, the Honor 9X has 4GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
Below I would like to share benchmarks tests of the new Honor 9X model.
In addition, the device runs on the Android 9.0 operating system and with the EMUI 9.1 user interface.
I always liked the EMUI shell and this time it did not fail, I did not find any delays and the applications open instantly.
Honor 9X: Sound and Communication
At the bottom of the device is the main speaker and, as the practice has shown, it is quite loud and with average sound quality. Naturally, watching movies or playing games – this speaker will be enough. The sound itself is strong but lacks density and bass.
I was also pleased to see the 3.5 mm audio jack, which would be a nice bonus for any user. The sound quality through the headphones is standard and does not stand out.
Onboard there is the possibility of installing dual nano-SIM cards that work with 4G LTE with 1/3/7/8/20 bands. The reception quality is good, the interlocutor heard me distinctly and without any interference, as I did him.
It is worth noting that the Honor 9X has dual-band WiFi 2.4/5 GHz and wireless Bluetooth 4.2.
The device also instantly finds your location thanks to the presence of GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou. In my case, about 16 satellites and accuracy of 5 meters.
Honor 9X: Camera
On the back of the Honor 9X smartphone, three camera sensors are installed – this is a 48-megapixel module with an f/1.8 aperture. A second 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture for ultra-wide shots and a third 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
The pop-up selfie camera received a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
The camera app looks standard with the EMUI user interface. Here I found many features and options, as well as various shooting modes.
I have no particular complaints about the quality of photographs if I photograph in the daytime. Of course, at night, photos will be already with a little noise. Below I will leave examples of photos taken on the Honor 9X.
Honor 9X: Battery
The global version of Honor 9X received 4000 mAh battery capacity, which is not bad for a modern device but does not forget that there is not a small screen installed.
Despite the large screen sizes, the battery performance has shown itself well. For example, if you watch a video with maximum brightness, the smartphone will work for about 8 hours at one charge level.
I assume that the optimization of the user interface also depends on the time of work, but with EMUI everything is fine in this regard.
The charging time from 0 to 100% will take about 2.5 hours through a 5V and 2A power adapter.
Honor 9X: Conclusions and Reviews
After spending several days with the global version of Honor 9X, I received only positive emotions, but if you know about the existence of the Chinese version, then you will definitely want to choose it.
The performance of the Chinese version is much better, and the user interface has remained almost untouched with the presence of Google applications.
In addition, I liked the large screen on which it is cool to watch movies or play games. It has good colors, they are vibrant.
The camera with a 48-megapixel sensor was very pleased, the pictures turned out bright and have good detail. In addition, ultra-wide shots will be useful if you want to capture a wider angle of the attraction.
The battery life on a single charge is good enough, thanks to good optimization, the device is able to work up to two days with average use.
Honor 9X: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can buy the new Honor 9X smartphone at a good and low price for just $180.88 with a 20% discount. I would also like to remind you about Black Friday, which will be on the 29th, and when prices will be even lower.
The new generation of the 9X received a very modern look with a pop-up camera and good technical specs, so the device is worth its attention.
