It is difficult to find a place for the HOMTOM C2 in HOMTOM’s extensive catalog, which is why we have decided to test it thoroughly to see where it can be located.
This phone in our review, which has just arrived in Europe, is one step between the mid-range and the low-end.
A large 5.5-inch screen with 18: 9 format and its dual rear camera are the main attractions but is it worth it for $95.
The HOMTOM C2 in our test inherits the design of Xiaomi Redmi S2 and that makes it a really attractive option.
We enjoy a large screen but it is HD. Despite this, it has not given us the feeling of lack of clarity at any time, quite the opposite.
Let’s see what is inside and what is responsible for specs this HOMTOM C2.

As we can see we have a hardware very similar to the UMIDIGI A1 Pro but with a downgrade in the screen resolution and an improvement in the camera, which is now dual and portrait mode on the back.
HOMTOM C2: Desing and Appearance
As soon as we see the phone, we feel that we have a premium design, but both at hand and in sight like Xiaomi Redmi S2.
Of course, quickly we realize that the touch is like plastic.
It also collides that it conserves the antennas (with plastic it would not be necessary) that yes they are necessary in aluminum chassis.
They do not bother, they are a detail that gives personality. The edges of the screen do not bother us too much, despite being somewhat less polished.
We enjoy a double rear camera that protrudes from the HOMTOM C2 in the analisis (enough so that it does not lie straight on the table).
The audio jack on top and two holes for speakers on the bottom but only one of them sounds. The other is used to house the microphone.
In the hand, the smartphone HOMTOM C2 feels very good, especially if we consider that we are facing a 5.5-inch screen.
It gives us the feeling of light and comfortable, especially for its weight of only 177 grams.
What we do not know is why HOMTOM is determined to mount such large panels. The size of HOMTOM C2 could have been enough.
After looking at it from all sides, we see that the design (for its price) is on par or above the competition.
We lose the metal in the case but we enjoy a good touch and a phone that will easily be confused with another “Premium” range in sight.
HOMTOM C2: Display
The HOMTOM C2 in our analisis has a 5.5-inch display, which resolves as usual in this price range with 720p.
720p to 5.5 inches are not overly sharp compared to high end smartphones, but sufficiently sharp. Without a direct comparison, smartphone newbies will hardly notice any difference.
Especially since the display is synonymous otherwise perfectly okay. View angles are neat, just like colors.
The contrast could be a bit better, but for the price range this is appropriate. The same applies to the maximum brightness.
This is not extremely high, but high enough that you can read the display on the outside. But you should avoid blazing sun. Here, the display reflects a bit too much for the maximum brightness.
Bottom line, you can not complain about the display at a price of $100!
HOMTOM C2: Hardware and Performance
However, the HOMTOM C2 in the test is just a nice phone. With as many phones as it has launched this year, HOMTOM is difficult to choose.
In the day to day the phone we liked a lot, although the MediaTek MT6739 and 2 GB of RAM with 16 GB of storage are a combination that we already know.
The phone can with any type of application or game, even with some demanding.
If you look at other competitors, we can find more interesting options.
For example, if HOMTOM copies the design from Xiaomi, then let’s compare it to the regular version of Redmi S2, which has Snapdragon 625.
The price of the device Redmi S2 and HOMTOM C2 is almost the same, but the performance of Xiaomi is much better.
The user interface and the standard apps run as far as reasonable. Although the whole thing often does not feel very soft, but real stuttering is rare.
The same applies to apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. These start at a reasonable pace and if you do not scroll too fast, they run well too.
If the smartphone needs to load too many pictures and data at the same time, but it can come to small stuttering.
If you are, however, with the right demands on the smartphone are things like SMS, WhatsApp, Twitter or the web browser to use reasonable.
Only when background processes such as an app updates, etc. run can the HOMTOM C2 become unbearably slow. Here you have to wait until they are through.
Again, there is the question of what games. Angry Birds or similar is no problem for the HOMTOM C2 in the test. By contrast, PUBG Mobile already.
So simple games or general 2D games are quite playable on the HOMTOM C2, but of course this is not a gaming smartphone.
HOMTOM C2: Software
Running under Android 8.1 Oreo, the performance is good, although it’s a bit rougher than in the phones that run on Nougat.
Anyway, day to day is not going to be a problem if you have one of these, thought to be able to do anything.
Android 8.1 on the stock system is a layer that we have always liked a lot, although using it only with gestures is still somewhat uncomfortable.
Luckily, currently, you can choose whether to control using gestures or not. We have felt comfortable with the classic navigation buttons.
HOMTOM C2: Camera
Let’s stop at this point because it’s where I stand out the most. This year, HOMTOM C2 has opted for dual quality cameras in the low range.
It has a camera that retains a configuration similar to that of the Redmi Note 5 and the truth is that the results with it are very good.
His rear camera with 13-megapixels and 2-megapixels make very good photos. But for bokeh effect looks like a fake.
HOMTOM C2 has a 8-megapixels front camera. It has very good quality if we compare it with other cameras of the competition.
If we remember the price there is no problem for this phone, even at night it is capable of taking not decent photos although we have to be careful when taking photos.
In the gallery we leave you several photos in interiors and you will see that it solves quite not good.
HOMTOM C2: Battery
HOMTOM C2 has a modest of 3000 mAh battery capacity.
It is on a par with many other models of the competition but the home rival takes advantage in this regard.
It will offer a day of relaxed autonomy in most occasions. Only in the days of greatest demand could you need some cargo at the end of the day, but it would be something punctual.
In hours of operation around 5 hours of on-screen, a figure that does not stand out but that is not bad for the price and features of the phone.
In summary. The HOMTOM C2 is not going to be that phone that leaves you lying at the end of the day or the one where you open several applications and start to malfunction.
Your hardware is more than tested and offers not a good performance.
Of course, it has no fast charge and to put it to 100% you will need about 2.5 hours with the charger that it brings.
HOMTOM C2: Conclusions and Reviews
The conclusion to the HOMTOM C2 in our review is not very easy and if I would not recommend this to you depends on various factors.
But HOMTOM C2 is a good smartphone for older users or smartphone newbies who are looking for a cheap device for calling, texting or even WhatsApp.
The HOMTOM C2 is also handy thanks to the 5.5-inch display.
However, users who really want to make use of all the facets of your smartphone, aside from the pure base functions and maybe a little more impatient, if it takes longer, I would advise to another smartphone.
Therefore, looking for a simple smartphone for as little money as possible, the HOMTOM C2 is okay. Although I would consider phones from Xiaomi with better processors, camera and autonomous operation.
HOMTOM C2: Low price and Where to buy cheaper?
At the moment you can buy a phone HOMTOM C2 for $93.99, but I would recommend waiting for the stock to get a phone with a good discount, and the real price I think is about $80.
But if you can not wait, then you should pay attention to the Xiaomi Redmi S2, although it is slightly more expensive, but it’s worth it.
