Haylou has introduced a new model of budget wireless earbuds. They got the name Haylou GT6 and therefore I propose to talk about its main functions, capabilities and many other nuances.
First of all, I want to note that these are semi in-ear earbuds. As such, Haylou’s GT6 does not have silicone ear tips.
In terms of cost, the Haylou GT6 is currently priced at around $20. In fact, this is a pretty attractive price and I’ll tell you why a little later.
If you look at the main technical features of the earbuds, the Haylou device stands out for the presence of Bluetooth 5.2 version with support for AAC and SBC audio codecs. In addition, the earbuds received a really working gaming mode and a good battery life.
Ok, now let’s move on to a full and in-depth review to understand the main advantages and disadvantages of Haylou’s freshly baked TWS earbud model.
Haylou GT6: Specifications
|Driver unit:||12 mm driver|
|Bluetooth protocol:||AAC and SBC|
Packaging and unboxing
Haylou GT6 wireless earbuds come in a fairly budget package. The box itself was made of thin cardboard and had the typical color design like any Haylou product. For example, on the front of the packaging you can find a drawing of the earbuds with the model name and the main features.
On the back of the package, there was a list with the main technical specs. Here, you will be able to observe information such as Bluetooth version connection, battery life, audio codecs and more.
But the equipment itself was not very extensive. That is, inside the package, I found only a charging box with earbuds inside and instructions for use. Okay, now I propose to talk about the quality of performance and other features of the GT6 earbuds.
Design, build quality and materials
First of all, I want to note that Haylou GT6 earbuds come in two colors – white and black. But the form factor of the earbuds, as I mentioned earlier, was made like semi in-ear earbuds.
I also want to highlight that the GT6 earbud model is very similar to the Haylou MoriPods model. That is, both models of earbuds received a completely identical appearance, but there are slight differences. For example, one of these is that the GT6 model has a mesh on the sound guide made of fabric, while MoriPods uses a metal mesh.
According to the materials of manufacture, Haylou GT6 earbuds combine matte and glossy plastic. The exact same solution was used on the MoriPods model. As for the build quality, I did not reveal any special complaints during my testing.
In terms of a comfortable fit, the GT6 model was very comfortable for my ears. I could easily wear the earbuds for hours and not feel too much discomfort. But it is also worth saying that the earbuds are more intended for everyday use, and not for sports.
In addition, I did not find any protection against water in the Haylou earbuds. Therefore, I definitely cannot advise listening to music in the rain or in a humid environment.
At the same time, the touch controls were located on the outside of the GT6 earbud housing. There is also an additional noise canceling microphone, and the main microphone was located on the lower edge of the leg. Meanwhile, on the inside, there are two contacts for charging the earbuds through the box.
Okay, now I propose to talk a little about the charging box itself. It was made of matte plastic and therefore the charging box fit well in the palm of my hand. At the same time, the weight of the case was about 32 grams, and the weight with earbuds and the case was about 40 grams.
As for the build quality, I did not reveal any particular complaints, since the flip cover opened without a strong backlash. Therefore, as for earbuds with a price tag of $20, the build quality was even at a solid level.
On the right side of the case, you can find a Type-C charging connection. But on the front of the box, there is an LED indicator. But this indicator shows information only while the box is charging. That is, you will not be able to find out the exact level of charge in the box and this is a small minus, as for me. Ok, now I propose to find out about the connection quality and the main functions of the touch control.
Connectivity, latency and touch controls
But on a wireless connection, the Haylou GT6 earbud model showed itself from the best side. Since the device received the latest version of the connection – Bluetooth 5.2. During my tests, I found no major signal quality problems. At the same time, the connection was always stable and did not have strong interruptions.
Another feature in the GT6 earbuds is the presence of a game mode. It allows you to get a minimum level of latency not only while watching videos on YouTube, but also while playing games. In PUBG Mobile, the latency was very minimal, roughly 160-200ms. With such a delay, I felt comfortable playing and did not feel any discomfort.
Ok, now I propose to find out the main functions of the touch controls.
- With one touch, the earbuds play, stopping the music track. Also, this same function is capable of accepting or rejecting a phone call.
- Double-tapping the right earbud switches the track forward. But you cannot switch the track back.
- A triple tap on any of the earbuds activates the voice assistant function in your smartphone.
- Double-tapping the left earbud switches from normal mode to gaming mode.
Sound and microphone quality
Each Haylou GT6 earbud uses a 12mm dynamic driver. And as my practice has shown, this size of the driver was enough for everyday listening to music. The volume of the headroom was sufficient even in noisy and loud places of the city or in public transport.
As I have mentioned several times, the GT6 is a semi in-ear earbud. Therefore, one should not expect high-quality low frequencies. But in my case, I was pleasantly surprised, since the earbuds played in a very balanced and pleasant way. Considering its $20 price tag, the sound quality was pretty good.
It’s worth noting here that with a proper fit in the ear canal, I felt good bass. At the same time, the mid and high frequencies played well. For example, if I turned the volume level to maximum, then I did not hear porridge in the music. Each musical instrument played clearly and did not emit annoying sounds.
Okay, now I propose to find out the performance of the microphones under various conditions of use. For example, in a quiet place, the quality of the microphones was good and the interlocutors heard me without any problems. But I cannot say that in noisy places the quality of the microphone dropped very critically. Since the additional noise canceling microphone coped with its tasks perfectly, and the interlocutors heard me very well.
Battery and run time
During my testing of Haylou GT6 wireless earbuds, the battery life of the earbuds themselves was within 4 hours and 30 minutes. Yes, the manufacturer guarantees about 5.5 hours, but I think it is possible to achieve this result, but at the same time it is worth reducing the earbud volume level to 50%.
I also want to highlight that each earbud uses a 35mAh battery. And the charging box has a 310 mAh battery. The total battery life of the earbuds using the charging case will be about 20 hours of use.
But the charging time of the earbuds in the charging box did not exceed 1 hour and 10 minutes. The charging box itself was charged in 2 hours via the Type-C connection.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After testing the Haylou GT6 earbuds, I was left with good emotions. Considering that this model of earbuds is ultra budget, they proved to be a worthy side.
For example, the device has received a number of advantages and I can attribute to them – this is a good build quality and materials used. I also liked the fit of the earbuds in my ear canal, so I could easily wear them for half a day without too much fatigue.
I can also single out the positive aspects – this is the minimum level of latency and good sounding of music, as for its price range.
There are also disadvantages, but they are not as significant as for earbuds with a price tag of $20. This is the minimum functionality of touch control and the battery life of the earbuds does not quite correspond to the indicators that the manufacturer promises.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
If you are looking for inexpensive semi in-ear wireless earbuds at a very attractive price and good sound, then the GT6 is a good choice.
But the price tag for Haylou GT6 earbuds was only $21.98 with a 31% discount. And it really will be a good purchase, as for inexpensive, but high-quality earbuds.
