With the release of Samsung’s new flagship smartphones in the Galaxy S series, wireless earbuds have also been introduced.
The new generation of Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus received only the prefix plus, and not the designation of the second generation. This means that the earbuds have been slightly modified compared to the previous Galaxy Buds model. When the second generation of the model will be presented is not yet known.
The price for the updated version of the Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds will be $140. Whether the price is too high or not, I will tell in a full review below.
The main improvement of wireless earbuds is the presence of a two-channel dynamic driver, as well as three built-in microphones for better sound quality when talking on the phone. The appearance and dimensions remained almost untouched, but the sound quality is better, as well as battery life.
Let’s find out if this is all in practice, what advantages and disadvantages the newly updated earbuds from Samsung received.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Unboxing
The stylish and bright box of the updated Galaxy Buds Plus met me. On the front part are earbuds and a charging case with the inscription of the model name.
The reverse side of the box has the designation of the main functions and technical specifications.
Inside the box, I found instructions for use, a warranty card, and also a charging case with earbuds. In a separate box, there is a charging Type-C cable, silicone ear tips with various sizes and earwings for better holding the earbuds in the ear canal.
The materials used are at a high level. Even the ear tips themselves are made of high-quality silicone that fits well in my ears. The presence of Type-C cable with fast charging is very pleasing to my eye.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Design
As I mentioned, the appearance of the updated Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds has not been changed. It got the same size and comfortable fit in the ear canal.
Frankly speaking, the design of the Galaxy Buds Plus has a much more comfortable fit when compared to the Apple AirPods Pro. They are much smaller both in size and in weight. The long-wearing more than 4 hours did not cause any discomfort or fatigue in my ears.
In size, the new generation received 19.2 x 17.5 x 22.5 mm, and each earbud weighs about 6 grams.
If the form factor remained the same as the first generation, then the materials used have changed. Now Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus has glossy plastic that closely resembles AirPods Pro.
The case is well assembled and even considering that it is made of glossy plastic, the case is not so easily soiled. Fingerprints are almost invisible, and if they remain, then they are erased quite easily.
The earbuds offer various color schemes such as white, black, blue and red. Therefore, choosing the color for your taste will not be a problem.
On the front of the Galaxy Buds Plus earbud housing is a glossy touch control panel. It works flawlessly and I did not have any accidental clicks during the tests.
Also on the inside, you can see two microphone holes, one main, and the other noise canceling. There is a built-in microphone on the inside that isolates the surrounding sounds.
In addition, the inner part has two contact connections for charging.
The sound guide received a protective net from foreign debris. Of course, there is a ledge for high-quality fastening of ear tips.
Yes, you can use additional earwings. At the same time, the contact of the earbuds with your ears will be as strong as possible. This opportunity will be necessary for engaging in active sports, for example, running or exercising in the gym.
Of course, the protection is not the highest from water, but the manufacturer says the IPX2 standard. You can’t be afraid of sweat and small splashes, but you can’t swim in them.
The charging case likewise became the same as the earbuds. This is glossy plastic and it looks beautiful under the iridescent rays of the sun. I want to remind you that the first generation of Samsung Galaxy Buds was made of matte plastic, both the case and the earbuds.
I have no questions about build quality. The manufacturer did a good job and did his job perfectly. The past generation had problems with assembly. Now the new Galaxy Buds Plus has a flawless design.
For example, the lid opens a little tighter, but it does not hang and holds the required opening angle. Also, the magnetic connection of the earbuds in the case is much better. Now the earbuds do not fall out of the box and that’s good.
Between the landing holes under the earbuds, there is one LED indicator and a rubber insert for the channel designation.
The back of the charging case received a Type-C connector for charging and another LED indicator.
Boxing dimensions were 26.5 x 70 x 38.8 mm, and weight about 39 grams. Putting the box in your jeans pocket is easy and uncomfortable.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Connect and Control
Now Galaxy Buds Plus wireless earbuds are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and use AKG audio technology. Collaboration with the AKG brand and Samsung has yielded good results in terms of signal and sound quality.
Many of you know that AKG is known for its quality production of audio equipment. It produces various Hi-Fi headphones and professional microphones.
Onboard the new generation you will not find aptX audio codecs, but only AAC, SBC codecs will be present. During testing, the Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds were kept at a high level and I had no signal loss with the connected device.
If we talk about connecting, then you have the opportunity to connect not only to an Android device but also to iOS. Does this make sense I can not say for sure, but now the iPhone has a chance to listen to the sound quality of the new Galaxy Buds Plus?
I can’t get past the Samsung Wear branded app. It has many different sound settings. For example, you can change the sound of the earbuds to a softer, more dynamic, clear, high and bass boost.
The app has an eavesdropping function. You can put on your earbuds and eavesdrop on your flatmates. Eavesdropping can be set in different ranges, stronger or weaker. Since there are three microphones integrated into the Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds, they receive sounds from the outside world and amplify the signal.
The controls are simple and you won’t have to memorize complex gestures. One-touch on the touch panel – play/pause. Double-tap – next track or answer/hang up. Triple touch – previous track. But you can’t call the voice assistant, this function is not supported here.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Sound
For the sound quality meets one dynamic driver, which has a two-channel sound distribution. One channel is responsible for high frequencies, and the other for low frequencies.
In practice, the Galaxy Buds Plus showed an order of magnitude slightly better sound than its predecessor. But I did not feel much difference between the two generations. There is no strong leap to the next level, but I can’t say that the earbuds play poorly.
The manufacturer has made great emphasis on low and high frequencies and this is felt during listening. The mid frequencies are slightly compressed and do not have such detail as low ones.
The bass is quite strong and voluminous. Also, speakers and volume levels are enough to listen to various genres. As I already mentioned, in the settings of the Samsung Wear application, you can set various music playback modes. A convenient feature and I definitely recommend using it.
The Galaxy Buds Plus still lacks active noise reduction. Although the manufacturer promises that at the optimization level, ambient sounds will be blocked. Thus, you can listen to your favorite music even in noisy places. In practice, active noise cancellation is several times greater than that of Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds.
The sound quality of the microphone is at a high level. AKG did a good job creating three microphones on each earbud. Even in loud and noisy places, the interlocutor will hear you clearly and at the same time, you will not need to shout back.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Battery
The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus has been almost doubled when comparing the first generation of Galaxy Buds. Now at maximum volume, the earbuds worked for about 10 hours.
The result is really excellent, even when comparing existing competitors. For example, the Apple AirPods headphone series has autonomy for up to 5 hours.
If you are one of those people who do not like to charge their headphones often almost every evening, then the new Samsung model will definitely suit you.
Naturally, in addition to fast charging via the Type-C port, there is also wireless charging. With the new flagship smartphones, it will be possible to charge the box through a smartphone without any wires. Another interesting fact, three minutes of charging the Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds will provide you 1 hour of music listening.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Conclusion and Reviews
I can’t say that the new generation of Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds has superior and better sound. Therefore, I can definitely attribute Buds Plus to the middle category of wireless earbuds.
The strength of the updated earbuds was – a much better build quality, improved battery life up to 11 hours, as well as the pure quality of the microphone.
Naturally, in the next generation, I would like to see the presence of better protection against water, the presence of the aptX codec and active noise reduction.
Given its cost, this model is well suited for new flagship smartphones from Samsung, but also other Android devices.
Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
You can now buy Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds for about $141.
Considering its cost, the earbuds were not bad, but they still need improvement. The flagship earbuds can not be called, as for example, Huawei.
